  1. They usually come on the various VMFA-333 markings sheets. From what I've seen and experienced (I used CAM's and Yellow Hammer's 32nd scale sheets) you get two sets of the 3 shamrocks. VMFA-333 carried them on both sides of the 750 gal centerline tank or on the outsides of the 350 gal. wing tanks.
  2. Ramboalphaecho, If possible I try to temporarily glue the gear doors to the model during the painting phase with white glue or liquid mask. Future floor wax will work also, but is a bit more fragile. You just glue them in and wipe the excess "glue" off with a damp Q-tip or a damp cloth. Mask and paint as usual. Then use a sharap exacto to score around the gear door and then pop out the gear door. Note it is important to score around the gear door to get a crips even break in the paint when you pull the door out. This also works with engine cowlings, weapons bays, electronics bays
  3. So I just imagined building ESCI's Mirage IIIE/O and Mirage V back in the '80s then?
  4. Hi Singeri, I think I can help you out. I have all four of the USN/USMC national insignia and a whole set of black wing walks from CAM left over from my build. You can have them if you want, just PM me your snail mail address and I'll get them out straight away. R/Mark B.
  5. Tis the other way 'round. Black Box makes only a USN Mk-7 seat. Only one on the market. All other Mk-7s are the USAF type. And be careful when ordering the seats from CE to make sure you are getting the Mk-7 for the J Phantom. CE also makes the earlier Mk-H5 used by the F-4B and pre 1972 F-4C/D. BTW the Mk-7s from Legends are pretty good as well. HTH Mark B.
  6. Jay A word of caution on the choice of decals for VMFA-333, go with Fox One and avoid Yellow Hammer. The reason I say this is because the tail stripes on Yellow Hammer’s sheet are bordered in black vice the Kelly green. I discovered this after building the bird below. Good luck.
  7. Ken, According to the history on VMFA-115’s official web site during that time frame of 1976 to 1985 they were stationed at MCAS Beaufort SC and deployed to the USS Forrestal with CVW-17 in October of 1980. “During this cruise VMFA-115 participated in Cold War missions such as intercepting and escorting various Soviet aircraft.†With this in mind you could build it in either configuration you have chosen or replace the AIM-9Ds with AIM-9Gs in Jarrod’s load out. Not sure, but I think you can go with 4 AIM-7s this load out too. HTH Edit: The gun pod would be wrong on USN/USMC bird
  8. Not afriad to admint my ignorance on the F-16 if I'm wrong, but isn't a block 15 bird an F-16A type? Yep I'm ignorant. I see that the Block 15 was the first block with the bigger horizontal stabs but wouldn't it still require a different cockpit from the Tamiya kit?
  9. I used MM flat white flat light gull gray on mine. I used the flat paints because they seemed to cover much better with much less paint than the gloss versions. I then built up a nice gloss finish slowly (a few days here) with MM's lacquer gloss coat. I sealed the model with semi gloss coat on the top and gloss coat on the bottom after decaling and weathering. As for the bare metal parts, I used what toadwbg suggested MM Magnesium and Titanium with MM Aluminum around the fuselage on the engine bay. One other masking medium I have used on MM metal paints is 3m post it notes. They come
  10. Ok I think I can handle that. I still have yet to come to grips with the fact that the colonial forces were allowed to become dilapidated though. I mean after all the fleet had gone through to think that they would just "beat their swords into plow shears" with out any thought to the possibility of the Cylons showing up is a bit of reach for me. Then again, the fact that the Cylons haven't locked up all of the "known" Colonial Military establishment yet is a kind of silly too. Oh well bring on season 3 I guess.
  11. I'm with you Dave. I just hope they don't forget that the name of the series is "Battle Star Galactica" and not "Battle for New Caprica".
  12. Already happened. Regards, Murph Of which incident do you speak? The Phantom kill of a Jaguar in Germany or another one?
  13. Here you go. Linky Linky First response says it all.
  14. You did those? Great job. I used a set on my Tamiya F-4J build and they really enhanced them. Thanks! Oh and I did cut them apart as you suggest, but only becuase I didn't want all that gunky carrier film on the missles.
  15. John McCormick is aces in my book. Thanks for the quick response on the F-4E cockpit. I've managed to cut this one apart without mangling it or my fingers! Thanks again John for putting me back on the road. ;) Mark B. Oops. Should have been Johnnymac. Sorry.
  16. Steve, Great job on the seats. Like the other guys said, the pull handles are great. No need to redo. BTW What did you use to make the O2 and G-Suit hoses with?
  17. Steve Glad to help. Hey for even more photos for that "next step" go to the The Ejection Site. You will find more photos of the MB 7 as well as just about every other EJ seat you will see in model form. Keep the Pics coming.
  18. Hi Steve and great job! That eduard set looks terrific. Can't wait to see more. It's always great to see someone build a big F-4 kit. I see you added the O2 and G-suit inflater hoses in the cockpits. Just to let you know, I found out the hardway form a retired PR that used to work on the F-4 that the USN had the O2 and G-suit inflater hoses integrated into the MB Mk-7 seat itslef so they don't have the hose in the cockpit like the AF birds did. See the red circle in the attached photo. Keep up the great work and post more
  19. Moeggo, For issues with the F-4J you can check out this link. It will give you a very long and inclusive list of items to “tweak†on the kit. My concerns though were the 1. Intake trunks 2. The AIM-9? Missles that come in the kit. 3. The fit of the fuselage/wing bottom to the fuselage. 4. Fit of the boat tail to the fuselage I fixed my intakes myself, but most people opt for the Seamless Suckers sets or resin FOD guards from CAM or Cleveland Model Resins. The AIM 9s that come in the kit are some sort of cross of the AIM-9B and the AIM-9E. Most of the time the F-4J flew with the

Rob, I think that all F-4C/D's received the M-7 seats during a major rework program that took place during 1972/1973. The Guard didn't receive F-4s until the mid '70s.
  21. You can always do it the Paul Stoner way: It's about as hard or easy as the SS route. And you get some very good results:
  22. Please do show them. Phantoms are never a waste of time! Thanx!
  23. Just these two little guys to add some life and scale to an F-4J.
  24. Hi mhorina, Not sure about the F-4F versions, but in the RF-4C and F-4E versions there are no SUU-23 gun pack parts and I doubt there is one in the F-4F. The SUU-23 was never really used with the F-4 except for the UK F-4s and of course the famous "Chico" modification from Viet Nam. I think what you are looking at is a chaff/flare dispenser pod that was included in the RF-4C eleases. I'm not sure of the nomenclature, but I believe it was the an ALE type pod. Those parts were left in the F-4F and F-4E because they were derived from the RF-4C kits.
