  1. I usually watch Band of Brothers episodes 5, 6, and 7 with my son. Saints and Soldiers is half decent too. I happen to like armor subjects and enjoy documentaries, if anyone else does then this might interest you: Great series! Happy modeling all!
  2. Me too! I'd grab an AMK F-14 right now if it were in my budget and do an unbiased review... unbiased... because I know jack about the Tomcat. So I'd review it from the standpoint of ease of build, clarity of instructions, decals etc. Things model related rather than F-14 specific. But alas I have terrible luck winning things. I will be either post 299 or 301... Model on fellas!
  3. Awesome! Glad I'm not alone. Happy modeling!
  4. Not sure I agree that model trains are dying. I'm an avid model railroader myself and there are so many new locomotives and rolling stock being produced yearly and many of them sellout ridiculously fast and are hard to get. The demand for new items is hard for the manufacturers to meet. Technology wise model railroading is constantly advancing and operational realism is unbelievable! My local model railroading club meets monthly (sometimes twice a month during busy show times like Christmas) and has over fifty active members and a large number of semi-active members. Compared to my local model
  5. This thread now needs an 18+ warning with all these "show me yours" propositions LOL! Meh, what do I know...I still enjoy building Lindberg and Matchbox kits ! Happy modeling all!
  6. Its a shame really that this kit and the limited aftermarket have become rare. I know its basic and nothing to write home about, but lets face it, the Clunk isn't exactly topping peoples "most wanted" lists. I doubt we'll ever see another kit produced. I actually like the aircraft myself. I'd love to do a 433 Squadron red and orange checkered Mk. IV and a 414 Black Knight EW Mk. V.
  7. I believe the differences (aside from decals of course) between the two kits are the wings (longer for the V) and inserts for the belly gun pack (gun ports for the IV no gun ports for the V). All else is the same (seats, cockpit, landing gear, fuselage, tail etc etc). So you have to decide which version you want as they only come with parts for the IV or the V not both. I have a IV but no decals. The kit decals are complete garbage and AM decals are rare and/or ridiculously expensive. Hope this helps. Happy modeling!
  8. Maybe grab a "weekend build" to jump start the enthusiasm. Go with something simple and easy and build it straight OOB including decals if needs be. Low parts count kits are especially great for this. Forgo the aftermarket and just enjoy building. Old school back to basics like when we were kids. I have done this many times when it feels like I'm just spinning my wheels on the bigger projects. Good luck and I hope things get better! Cheers! Don
  9. Not green but the same stuff... Happy modeling!
  10. I also don't have a dog in this fight but I am not 100% convinced its entirely user error on the builders part. I mean his/her wheel well and cockpit painting looks quite nice to me. So some effort has gone into making those areas look presentable. Why do all that just to intentionally botch the rest of the build? I suppose if they had a large beef with AMK then sure. But boy that's pretty extreme to buy a not cheap kit only to intentionally butcher it out of malice or spite. Who knows? I just don't think every issue in that build is builder error. He does point out some nasty areas on the k
  11. ...Or you could simply place the unused/leftover plastic from your recently completed kit into your normal plastic recycling bin before cracking open another kit to start (rinse and repeat). I've been doing that for years now and I doubt I'm alone. Also...and I am no plastic expert so I'm sure someone here can educate us... but I thought you couldn't use the same plastic over and over again without removing certain bonding agents or such first to avoid getting brittle or otherwise contaminated plastic. So its not as simple as cleaning the parts off at the factory and throwing the sprue and cl
  12. I sometimes wonder what ever happened to some ARC'ers from days long past. I know some have sadly passed on (some former ARC members may have also passed away and we are not even aware of it), some folks have moved on to other interests and no longer build scale models, some have been exiled via the ban, some come and go every now and again, and some just drifted away from ARC for other modeling sites. And then there were the "I quit!" former members . My fellow old heads here probably remember those threads from ARC's early days. Those guys who had to make some long drawn out dramatic exit fr
  13. Wow...I can't believe its been 20 years! Here's to 20 more ! Happy modeling all!
  14. Awesome! A good decision by Airfix. Thanks for the info "barkin mad". Happy modeling!
  15. ^^^Why is Captain Pickard attacking that poor Jawa with an antique garden hose in that Buck Rogers episode? Why didn't the Cylons protect him and how in the world did Marsha Brady get there...?
  16. Found this the other night and listened to it at the bench: Found it interesting. I don't remember this episode Saturday mornings as a kid.... Happy modeling all!
  17. Based on those diagrams ^^^ I'd say Monograms are pretty darn close to accurate. I'll wait and see for when more info comes available on the HK B-17 but right now their engines certainly look wonky in that picture a few posts above. Happy modeling!
  18. I am no expert whatsoever, but it looks like Monogram is pretty close to the real thing based on the pic above ^^^ and this pic below: Which makes that HK outer engine look quite a ways off.
  19. British F-35's operating off HMS Queen Elizabeth off the coast of Florida: Looking good ! Happy modeling all!
  20. Not SEA nor USAF but I've always thought this pic also helped illustrate the effectiveness camouflage can have in breaking up an aircrafts silhouette: And for something a little older: Good stuff folks. Happy modeling all!
  21. I find that Blue Steel missile slung underneath the Vulcan just ruins the whole look of the aircraft. If Airfix does release a Blue Steel only version 1st then I'll pass on that release. I can do up my old Airfix in that configuration if I choose. It would be nice if the 1st release had the option to do either the Blue Steel or conventional bomber version and then on the anniversary of the Falklands war do a boxing with all the bits and bobs to do a Black Buck 1 or later Black Buck Vulcan. If they do that I'll get both boxings. Still excited for this release though! Such a futuristic looking m
  22. One year till release eh... ...heck I may build my other Airfix Vulcan in the meantime. I know I won't build it once I get the new kit. I need decals though as mine came without any. When it is released we should do a V bombers group build or a bombers of the 50's, 60's, and 70's group build. Happy modeling all!
  23. KC-135's and other refueling tankers were kept away from the combat area, orbiting out of the range of enemy fighters or at least in areas where any enemy aircraft could be intercepted before they reached the unarmed tankers areas of operation. So there was no reason to camouflage them. BUFF's originally kept their aluminum over anti-flash white scheme. But this proved to be pretty visible. Initially the white was removed and replaced with black (on 'F's') so they were harder to see from below, especially at night. The B-52D, which was the most numerous variant of the B-52 used in
  24. SOLD ! Now this is cool. A full bomb bay...finally! Cockpit detail looks really nice but unless you do not permanently attach the canopy most of that detail won't be seen. Boxed in wheel wells. Intakes look much better then the original but I still shuddered looking at them. In all a great choice by Airfix and by no means a waste of resources for those who build 1/72 or Vulcan fans. Happy modeling!
