Rampage55
Well, I've finely finished my Corsair II. Not a moment to soon either. I took me nearly the entire GB to get this one into launch position. It was a fairly straight forward build that didn't fight me too much. I would like to thank, strikeegle801 for donating a couple of HARM launch rails and sparing me the hassle of scratch building them. Over all I am pleased with the results. There are a couple of things I would do differently next time around though. For instance I didn't notice until it was to late that the SuperScale decals depict the lettering on the "Rescue" stencil, the intake warning, and name plate with white lettering. On the real thing the lettering was grey, except for the excellence "E" award was bordered in white. Short comings aside she looks cool in my display case and I'm satisfied with her. Thanks to everyone for there kind words of encouragement and bits of useful information along the way. A special thanks to Benner, for running a great Group Build, Its been a very informative and enjoyable time. Thanks for looking, Mark
PBoilermaker
Very nice! That pilot looks especially well-painted. -Mike
Benner
excellent build ! ... can you explain how you painted it? just asking for my future reference when I build one :) well, if you're going to nit-pick your own build about the white on the stenciling. As far as I can tell, the "E" was applied after the war as all my war time reference pictures do not show the "E" on the fuselage.
Expat Tomcat
You got yourself a great Clansman bird there. I'M NOT trying to rivet count on you here, this is detail stuff you wouldn't know unless you were there. I was so I'll pass it on A detail for yah for your pilot figure. VA-46 put a tartan "V" on all their pilots helmets, like this: http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/DVIC_View/Stil...SC-89-00035.JPG Detail: http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/DVIC_View/Stil...ST-88-01742.JPG those came from here, type in VA-46 in the search block, or any squadron http://www.dodmedia.osd.mil/ this wouldn't be to hard to replicate if you use a technique I know, PM me if you're interested Edited August 27, 2007 by Expat Tomcat

SCOUT712
Wow, I LIKE IT !!! One of the few people who did the pylon arrangement on those jets for DS right ! A little nickpicky but if you can, maybe change the AIM-9's. You have "D's" on your model, they used "M's" or even just one, that I don't know exactly. SCOUT

Rampage55
Thanks to everyone for the kind words and positive comments and suggestions. They're very much appreciated. excellent build ! ...can you explain how you painted it? just asking for my future reference when I build one : As far as the paint job goes, this was my first real attempt at a modern TPS scheme. So after seeing others here on ARC share there methods I thought I would give it a go. I started by priming the plane with a white primer, after which I sealed the intake and gear bays up with tape. The tricky bit was the intake and trying to wrap the fuselage color around into the intake a little ways and masking off the rest. This was followed by a pre shading of black, paying special attention to the top of the wing as this seemed to be the area that had the most color variation. Once dry I sprayed the whole plane in a diluted mix of light Ghost Grey and thinner. At this point I loaded my airbrush with various combinations of Ghost Grey and Med Grey starting with the darkest mix first and working to lighter and sprayed the areas I thought would have been hit with anti corrosion paint during the cruise such as leading edges of wings and tail, around access panels, and control surfaces. When I was satisfied I sealed it with a coat of Future. Followed by a wash of dark grey Windsor & Newton oil paint thinned with turpenoid, followed by another coat of future. Next it was time for my favorite part, applying decals. After which I dusted certain access areas with pastels and sealed this with a dull coat. All that was left was to pull off the masking, my second favorite part. Thanks again for your interest.

Fuji
Both those images were taken by "The Corsair Kid", Lites Leenhouts. He's a good friend and was XO of VA-72 during the war.
