G_Marcat_Italy
For the joy of all those that have a passion for the old Monogram's Phantom in 1/48: The page on the REVELL's site The 3-D View AVIATION MEGASTORE have it on sale now but it is available also in other places. The old Monogram Phantom is now available by first hand (no more Ebay's madness ) , the price is around 13-18 Euros. I'm looking to discover if it have really the "Candy Cane" special color option: in the "official" photos nothing is shown.
Julien (UK)
Out here in the UK as well. After years of no C/D we have the Monogram / Esci and Hasegawa kits re-released. Julien
ElectroSoldier
I got a couple from ebay, they were £12 and £15 I think. Will be nice to have a model to put the Xtradecal sheets onto.
kellyF15
I wosh they would at least fix the windscreen framing. I always replace it with a Hasegawa windscreen.
ElectroSoldier
Whats wrong with it? Ive got some but havent built one yet
kellyF15
Whats wrong with it?Ive got some but havent built one yet It is too round, if you look at hasegawa and esci, the framing is almost straight.
jwest21
Why Hasegawa doesn't combine the sprues from their E and J sets, throw in a new sprue and release an updated C/D is beyond me.

I think all in all they could do it with less than 20 pieces, but I could be way off
jwest21
I think all in all they could do it with less than 20 pieces, but I could be way off I don't think you are way off at all. A couple parts for the various nose fairings, unslotted tail planes, short burner cans, new IPs. Maybe stuff for the LORAN towel rack and probably a couple pieces I am missing. Not much....right?
kenlilly106
With the exception of new nose fairings, pretty much everything else exists in other Phantom kits. The new RF-4B kit has a nice set of short cans in it, and the unslotted stabs (albeit with raised lines) are in other kits. Ken
G_Marcat_Italy
Promptly purchased (for 13 EURO... ) the "new" Phantom from Revell: " A view to the decals sheet Big delusion on the DECAL side... Absolutely plain choices: Note that in the decal's placement diagrams the Phantoms are shown with the Chaff-Flares launchers in the underwing pylons but after several checks in the instruction's sheet there is NOT signs of these launchers. In general the kit from REVELL is exactly the same PHANTOM as offered 30 years ago from MONOGRAM.
launnie
Big delusion on the DECAL side... Absolutely plain choices: This is rather strange. As far as I know US Phantoms have only flown from Soesterberg AB. Have I missed something, or ...? gr. launnie
Andre
This is rather strange. As far as I know US Phantoms have only flown from Soesterberg AB.Have I missed something, or ...? I think Revell means the aircraft was spotted in this scheme at Twenthe while participating in the TAM exercise there, instead of its normal Spagdahlem base. Cheers, Andre TAM = Tactical Air Meet I recall reading that the Spangdahlem aircraft were marked that way for their participation.
Gene K
Wow - great boxart. Anyone know how to get this Revell art in full size (without the cropping they do for the box)? Also, any new items in the kit other than the decals? Gene K
G_Marcat_Italy
Also, any new items in the kit other than the decals?Gene K Absolutely NOT, the original kit from Monogram is the same released from Revell.
Gene K
Absolutely NOT, the original kit from Monogram is the same released from Revell. Thanks. The reissue of the 1/72 Monogram kits by Accurate Miniatures is supposed to have some new items: From the AM blog: Accurate Minnatures is releasing an F-4B/C & an F-4J with minor resin upgrades, and some interesting decal options. For the F-4B/C, we are working with Pavel Vacata at Admiralty Model Works to produce a correct ECM pod for the period that would include Operation Bolo. We have also been working closley with Jack Morris and Fox One Decals to ensure that the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing decals are as accurate as possible. We are also pleased that James Moody is painting the box top art for this kit. These 1/72 Phantom kits were originally released as Monogram kits, and are generally acknowledged to be the most accurate in form and shape of any Phantom currently on the market. They have been out of the Monogram catalog for a while. There is also a lot of new, more complete data available for Phantoms flown by various agencies, so we believe this will be a good addition to our catalog as well the shelf of many a modeler. [uNQUOTE] Release, again according to their blog, is end of May/beginning of June. Gene K
kellyF15
I was not aware of a 4 kill F-4. I thought the 3 kill one from NYANG and the 6 kill 66-463 were the high score Phantoms. I did just wake up though
Trigger
Big delusion on the DECAL side... Absolutely plain choices: I don't know... given the barrage of gray aircraft over the past few years, it's nice to see that Hawaii ANG MiG-killer in the SEA scheme.

MickeyThickey
We have also been working closley with Jack Morris and Fox One Decals That's old info - the Fox One relationship is over, and acrimonious. Ben says they stole his artwork after low-balling payment, AM claim he was a pain to work with and they sourced their info elsewhere. Whatever the reality is, the AM kit won't be coming with an official Fox One decal sheet.
