Big Nick
At about 1.30pm this afternoon I was in the garden when I heard a Chinook going over. Looked up and saw three Chinooks overhead low and steady but the back of my mind was telling something wasn't quite right, they were dark shiny green plus we're not on a flight path. My mate's saying it's a Chinook and I'm saying "no, that's a CH-46 Sea Knight". 5 minutes later a Met Police EC145 come over escorting another CH-46 with a pair of VH-3D Sea Kings in a very glossy dark green and white scheme. Really wish I'd taken pics now.... Turns out that they came from Mildenhall and Obama will arrive at Stansted on Tuesday. http://forums.airshows.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33276 P.S. I can now tick the Sea Knight off my list of aircraft to see flying!

Gundamhead
WOW !! you lucky man !!! Interseting. Can be taken totally dripping with sarcasm that the Prez is showing up in his neck of the woods, or that it's genuine for seeing a bunch of cool aircraft... :D
Steve N
The POTUS came to Kalamazoo last year. The TV station where I work covered the event, but AF1 flew into Grand Rapids. I did see the CH-46s parked at the K-zoo airport the day before though. Back in '92 Bush Sr. made a campaign stop here in Battle Creek. I got to see AF1 land, and even shook the prez's hand (he just went down the crowd line, and I had gotten there early to get pics of the aircraft.) That's the only time I've ever seen a U.S. President in person. It's pretty cool to experience something like that, whether it's "your guy" in office or not. Jennings
This is political ,I think this thread should be deleted. How exactly is the observation of aircraft movements and comments thereon "political"? It's only political because of inappropriate snarky comments about the President. And that has nothing whatsoever to do with observing aircraft movements and commenting on them. Hal Marshman Sr
From 1992 through 2007, I worked in South Cargo Area at Logan (BOS) Intl Airport. Our upstairs window overlooked the area where AF-1 would discharge and pick up her passengers. The motorcades would pass in front of my office/warehouse. The Herky that carried the offiial limousines would be parked at North Cargo, where I also had business each day, thus I got to see all the POTUS that served during that time. The King of Saudi, or maybe it was a prince, had his personal aircraft parked on the ramp behind our facility, whenever he came to visit his daughter, who was a student in a Boston college, I forget which one. Got to talk to the singer Jimmy Buffet one day when his Albatross was parked on our ramp. Hard to remember all the celebrities who passed through our area. AlcatrazLogan
I seen a Chinook flying over Dublin city centre as well just the other day, apparently there's quite a few in the area before he visits Ireland.
Wayne S
They using the Sea king to replace the 56 over there, the Prez should be in the 60s? Edited May 22, 2011 by Wayne S
galileo1
Nice that you were able to see them as it is indeed a rare sight over there. For me, I see them pretty much any time they fly to Camp David here in Maryland as I am not very far from it. Rob
HOLMES
I guess they are using Sea King do you think because he is going to a tiny place called Money Gall { THE BBC NEWS states that HE will attend there {before going to Dublin etc} to visit where his Great=Great-Great Couzin came from before he settled in USA} <_<
Stephen
Pics here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70781&hl=President and here http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=34084 I have to say I'm glad that the President is flying into Stanstead and not Heathrow as the disruption caused to flights takes ages to sort out. Scott Smith
At one time I thought about trying to build a collection of the Presidential Aircraft fleet. But then I realized I don't have enough time left in life to build what I already have
