david sMiGielski
Harold was kind enough to send me a pre-release version of his 1/48 F-5E cockpit. First impression out of the box is very good. The casting is extremely delicate. The instrument panel alone is a work of art. I got an early version of the seat sans belts, but the release version is supposed to have them installed. Here are a few photos. The cockpit tub and rear deck. Canopy actuator arms and framing:

Harold
WOW!!!! nice one there! When is the official release date? No date set yet. I still have a few tweeks to do on some of the smaller parts, as well as the seats. I am making sure that everything fits. I should have them ready after my trip to California next week. Harold
Thanks for posting... I am sending the ESCI/Italeri version out for a first look to another ARCer tomorrow. I want a real world look at them to see if they fit properly and are easy to assemble. Thanks for all the nice comments. Harold
PlasticWeapons
Wow, really nice Harold! You tackled the canopy mechanism nicely too! Now that I have some references for a certain two-seater, I think it's my turn up to bat. Hope you have a nice vacation too.
Josh1971
I'll have to get one of those! jb

I am still working it over a little bit more. I don't like the way I have to cast it in a "cacoon". Ah, when? You know? Like when is the two seater going to be ready??? Huh? huh? Harold
I thought I would add these to the list of goodies for the F-5 in 1/48 scale. Platypus nose and wing mods for the latest version. I am also looking at a possibility of doing the latest upgraded ejection seat as well. > Edited June 5, 2008 by Harold

You better save me a set! :D By the way, I think I asked this before but going to ask again; are you going to do a two seat version (F-5F) for the Monogram kit? Regards, Robert
Harold
PlasticWeapons has it on the bench already. He does really fine work too.

Regards, Robert It's planned, in the works, etc. The "delay" due to lack of decent cockpit photos and a personal interest in getting another two-seat resin set project off the ground - the A-6E cockpit for the Revell kit. As for the F-5F, my biggest head ache appears to be the rear canopy mechanism. I found the Verlinden Lock-On series books to be a very helpful start - I totally forgot that Amazon.com can help you find out-of-print books! I'm also waiting *patiently* for a museum nearby to grant me one-on-one access to both A-6E and F-5E jets to get better photo references for either project. A fellow ARCer also should be sending me an F-5F kit so I can hack up one kit while using another kit as a test-fit model. I wonder who that is... I'm currently building a 1/48 Tamiya F4D Skyray on top of all these projects for a commission build as well. I am so busy...LOL. I think I need a vacation too. :D

DonSS3
Dang it, Harold! You're gonna' cost me money!!! Gotta get me one of those, and the nose and LERX's will come in handy for some of the Latin American aircraft I want to do, I think.

Gotta get me one of those, and the nose and LERX's will come in handy for some of the Latin American aircraft I want to do, I think. I had these for years. Now I am re-doing them to a better standard. I will make the same thing for the ESCI lit as well. It has a slightly different shape on the nose. Oh yes, Wolfpack has them now. They look really good. Aggressor Supporter
I really like the shark nose! I have the old Monogram F-5E in the stash (the bare metal one) and having the shark nose would look great on it.
torchf4
I am also looking at a possibility of doing the latest upgraded ejection seat as well.> Your seat is already the improved Northrop seat. The early seats do not have the drogue chute housing behind the headrest.
