  1. I can guarantee that the "hundreds" of modellers you speak of won't give a damn about this error because they just want to build it and get the kit of one of their favourite aircraft on the shelf. I also find it quite presumptuous that you suggest a large majority of modellers are mindless or weak-willed sheep with no opinions of their own and cannot be trusted to make their own decisions based on the info given. In your black/white world: A: No, don't buy this kit, it sucks! B: Okay! A: Yes, buy this kit, it's great! B: Okay! Whether they ultimately choose to buy it or not isn't up to
  2. Congratulations, mate. This has probably been the weirdest EPL season ever but as a neutral I'm very glad to see the title go to a side that's not one of the Big Five.
  3. 1/48 Academy Spitfire FR.Mk.XIVe with Ultracast seat and Xtradecals.
  4. Found this a short while ago: https://imgur.com/a/saMsE I hope this never happens to me.
  5. I've been working on it a little each day. From the looks of it, it's going to take a loooooong while to get it up to presentable standards.
  6. I'd like to join the GB with this entry. I will be building the 1/72 Hobbyboss F-14D as Vandy 1, the VX-9 Tomcat famous for its overall black scheme. I've always wanted to build a model of it, so I guess now's a good opportunity. I hope I can finish it before the deadline. The decals will be from Modelkasten/Fine Molds. I believe that they were designed to fit the Fine Molds F-14, but I doubt there will be any major issues with the possible exception of the tail stripes. Ignore the bit of masking tape at the bottom, I put it there after the plastic flap got torn off.
  7. I'm going to enter a 1/72 Hobbyboss F-14D and build it as the world-famous Vandy 1 with some decals from Fine Molds.
  8. It was, but that particular boxing is long out of print and there's almost nothing in 1/72. I also don't trust Scale Nutz to come up with something anytime soon.
  9. If this is your first model, then I think your later ones are going to be absolutely spectacular. Nice job!
  10. Looks great! I saw your other upcoming releases on your page too, looking forward to the new F-16 and F-15SG sheets. This might be unrelated but since you're active in this topic, do you have any plans to release some decals for the RSAF AH-64Ds in the future?
  11. I'm ready to call this build done. I attached the prop and canopy after giving it a flat coat. I'll take some better pics when I have the time before posting it in the Completed Builds thread. It went together much, much easier than the Italeri. Maybe I should have started with the Academy first.
  12. Almost done! I gave the model a dark gray wash and attached the landing gear and other small bits.
  13. Decals are on. The Xtradecals worked very well as usual, but I can't say the same for the kit stencils. They silvered so I poked some holes in them before applying Mr. Mark Setter. That seemed to do the trick. I also discovered that I screwed up a little during painting; the white striping on the right side of the tailfin is slightly narrower than the left side by a couple of millimeters and it's kind of noticeable.
  14. I took a long time to get here but I finally got the Spit painted. I first painted the white stripes on the wings and stabilizers. Academy provides these as decals so it was just a matter of measuring the width before putting the masking tape on. This was then followed by the Medium Sea Grey, the Dark Earth, and finally the Dark Green. I used Tamiya paints for all the colors. I think the Dark Earth and Dark Green look a bit odd, but they were all I had at the moment so I went with them anyway.
  15. I used both Model Hobbies and BNA Model World a few times. No problems whatsoever.
  16. The red line brigade will no doubt be jumping for joy at the chance to draw more lines on grainy photographs for their enjoyment and our amusement.
  17. Great work and glad to hear you enjoyed the kit!
  18. I went to Tokyo in May 2 years ago, I documented my trip to Akihabara and its shops here, hope this helps. http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=273240&view=findpost&p=2613815
  19. For the carburetor intake, I attached a piece of styrene sheet and painted it black, otherwise you'll be able to see the locating tab. I got rid of the seam on the canopy by scraping it off with a new blade, then sanding with 800 to 8000 grit paper, and then polishing it with Tamiya compound. Got the camera windows and underwing lights masked and front windscreen attached, almost ready to prime.
  20. I use Mr Finishing Surfacer 1500 Black for NMF finishes but I don't know how well it'll work with Alclad since I don't use the latter. Works very well with Tamiya and Gunze though.
  21. Been slowly working on this. The main airframe has been assembled. Not too much trouble. There are a couple of ejection pin marks on the inside of the radiator housings. They're highly visible from when you view the model from the front and rear, so I filled them in. I also painted them since it will be impossible to get paint in here later. They will be masked off during the painting stage. The radiator faces were painted silver and given a wash before attaching them. Finally, I go the spinner and blades painted.
  22. Just interested in hearing everyone's views on this. Let's say you want to get more people (especially the young ones) interested in scale modelling, how would you go about it?
  23. Cheers, Mike. I'll be using some Xtradecals to make a SEAC Spitfire.
  24. Received my copy today. It didn't have a very good journey across the Pacific (corners were slightly dented and a small scratch on the cover) but I'm happy with the content. Thank you for all your hard work!
