  1. From the front on the windshield seems a bit "offset", not quite lined up right? Otherwise outstanding
  2. Spejic, maybe, but surely the f35 creates more jobs than the f18e?
  3. Glad to see things are on track. To be honest, in my ignorant way, I have always suspected much of the controversy be a storm in a teacup. Other aircraft development programmes have been far more problematic and still resulted in winners. I think we are steadily seeing the bugs ironed out. People show me pictures of the chinese copies, and I think surely they will have similar development problems? So the chengdu fighter will operational when, 2025? If not then I suspect they haven't been as ambitious in their program, hence have a less capable aircaft. Anyway that's my childlike logic. Great
  4. Yes, what can I say, im learning! But being naive has always been a problem for me. To make this worse, from what I understand the post office in this country has a legalised monopoly, don't know how it works in other countries. For example small parcels/mail may not legally be couriered privately. Im pretty good a solving equations but pretty useless in figuring out all this political mumbo jumbo. The unions in this country have already destroyed so much.
  5. 3 reasons Joel 1. Im thick/stupid. you may say it. Me telling myself that I am is therapeutic so please join me! 2. DHL etc is quite expensive to South Africa. Cant remember exact figures but I remember something like $60 for small parcels 3. When I ordered them in early September, I gambled on the post office being a vital service so i thought "surely the strike should be resolved soon?" See item no.1.
  6. Sorry, just wanted to rant, it makes me feel better! Bought a whole bunch of model stuff, kits etc which are now stuck at the Post Office. Hard to know what to say about it; just don't try to send anything to South Africa using our rubbish postal service; My link The Post Office in country has been on strike since August, with literally millions of parcels at the Johannesburg International Mail Centre going nowhere. Just wonderful
  7. can someone tell me whether the single vs twin was decisive in the navy going with the yf17 vs yf16? Was tgere more going on? Looking at the priceof even a legacy hornet, it seems crazy that it resulted from the lightweight fighter comp. Surely the design of the engine itself is more important than just having 2? Rather 1 good one (f16) than 2 bad ones (f14a)
  8. Very nice flanker; still the sexiest jet imho
  9. I was really hopeful of their planned f14. Hoping for an accurate, simple to build cheaper even if less detailed than hasegawa
  10. Really nice. If you dont mind my asking, the line down the windshield, is that from the bad join on the trumpeter kit? I didn't realise it was that bad
  11. When built this well the HB tomcat really looks great. Now if only we could get someone like zacto to redo the intakes....
  12. TT that is sacrilegious! It should be law that "highway to the dangerzone" requires clips of f14s. Sacrilege I say!!!!
  13. so sorry to hear that, praying for a full recovery
  14. considering that you are showing the engine bays open, you have the opportunity to help correct the intake lip issue. Bear with me; if you remove material from the outside edge along each forward intake trunking, then the intakes will be canted outward more, which will make the upper and lower intake lips parallel. Usually this would then create another issue, whereby the forward intake and engine cover dont line up. However this wont be a problem since you are showing the bays open. Just a suggestion. You are making great progress, very jealous already!
  15. Absolutely beautiful. Also, really enjoyed your build thread. Gotta get this kit.
  16. back to the original topic. I wish all of the servicemen involved Godspeed. More than that, I would like you to know that there are many around the world praying for you, routing for you. I In this day, we love to "hero worship" sports figures and celebrities who post obscene videos of themselves. I am sorry, but the term "hero" to my mind is only deserved by those who risk their lives so that average joes like me can sleep better at night. Any pilot flying over there must know that if they are downed, they wont be shown any mercy. I am glad to see America taking the lead on this. For all of i
  17. I have seen a build thread where someone made multiple cuts and inserts along the entire length of the fuselage. This was in addition to using an aftermarket resin nose cone. In my opinion, the short overall length of the academy kit is the least of its problems. Far more "odd" looking is the incorrectly angled and small windshield, as well as the overly bulbous nose cone.
  18. Oh my goodness!! Wonderful to see what can be achieved with some wire and sprue, old school style.
  19. why did the spitfire really have elliptical wings? If have been told that the great RJ Mitchell actually misunderstood the aerodynamics, and that an elliptical lift distribution is not the same as an elliptical planform, and that in many ways the spitfire wings could be considered a wartime engineering failure! Crazy! why was the turbocharged version of the allison engine not pursued more, or rather, why were the original p38s not equipped with turbos when sold to the UK? Why did the allies not develop a counterto the tiger tank?
  20. Kit of the decade. Just put it on sale!!!!!!!! Thank you Zactoman, thank you
  21. I am wanting to make some resin cassts of a turret of a ww2 battleship that I have made. There are no undercuts. Has anyone tried using plaster of paris instead of rubber/urethane for the mould? The low price of plaste rof paris makes this attractive. Regarding resins, was considering using polyester casting resin (similar to fibreglass resin)
  22. Can I ask what exactly is the 'preshading' on the actual jet? Does it gave something to do with maintaining flush panel edges for low rcs?
