Very nice build! I would love to see some pics of this model outdoors with a nice background. I imagine that it would be quite realistic looking. Great job.

Thanks for that tip! Did not know it worked like that.

Here is my latest completed model. It is an old 1/32 Matchbox 109 given to me by a friend. Unfortunately I got some glue in the mesh of the trop filter that I scratchbuilt and did not know it would be a problem until it was too late. Oh well...

I havent used this yet but I recently got a piece of packing strap to use as a straight edge for these types of jobs. I am talking about the hard plastic (sometimes a transparent green) straps that you will see wrapped around a bundle of something. Seems like it will work pretty well...in theory at least. More flexible than metal yet still very strong.

Andre, you are exactly right, dont know what I was thinking...editing post now

Not sure what happened. Two of my pics just vanished off of picasa. :(

I know that this is barely an in-progress because it is so close to being done but here is my latest. It is an old 1/32 Matchbox kit. I scratched a trop filter for it, something that I was inordinately proud of until I painted it and the paint showed that glue had got in the ultrafine mesh that I had used and ruined it. I also added the push-pull rudder controls that the real plane used. I painted it in a faded desert scheme and plan to do a little pastel work on it and add an antenna and call it finished. Try to ignore the (slightly) out-of-scale setting ;)/>/>

1/48 TA-4J Skyhawk Aggressor Camouflage
compressorman replied to dsahling's topic in The Display Case
Camo looks freehand to me (love it). When its done right it just give a realistic look that you sometimes wont get with a mask. Nice job! -
This looks fantastic! What colors were used? That sandy color looks like it has a touch of green in it, nice!
-
I did not realize those color profiles were on cybermodeler. What a great resource, thanks cybermodeler and to RichardL for posting it!!
-
Well, maybe you dont want to say it but I dont mind. Thats outstanding!!

Oh my gosh! This is some incredible scratchbuilding!! Obviously 1/32 scale is larger in your house than it is in mine, On a side note, everytime I looked at some of the pics of the ball turret when it was not in the plane all I could think about was the Tie Fighter from Star Wars. I wonder if this may have been an inspiration for that fictional fighter?

I'll take one of those myself :)

Stunning work! And some great looking photographs just improve an already super model!!

Where is a good place in the US to order Wingnut Wings planes? I am having a hard time finding a good source. Thanks

This is some really fantastic modeling here! Tell us the truth now...you have an A6 in your back yard right???

Mixing custom colors - not as hard as you think!!
compressorman replied to Jennings's topic in Tools 'n' Tips
I too enjoy mixing my own colors. At around $3 a pop you can wind up with a fortune in model paint. It is far too easy to mix your own shades of gray, blue, tans, etc by adding a few drops of another color. I used to enjoy painting landscapes and wildlife art in acrylic. When doing this kind of work one probably custom mixes 90+ percent of their colors. Heck, you typically make your own black (ultramarine blue and burnt umber) True black is usually artificial looking on a painting. -
Nice! I am building this now. Did you use the paintable cockpit control panels or the decals?
-
Everybody keeps mentioning Gatorglue. Does somebody have a pic of some and info of where I can get it? I dont know anything about it.
-
I tried elmers last week with the rear canopy of a bf109 I am building. The next day I accidently bumped it with my finger and it fell off, so be careful.
-
Do you mean that the modelmaster color 2135 is all wrong? I was all set to order some. I dont need something that is perfectly right, I just need a color that matches the decals that Eduard provides for the cockpit on their Mig-21

This is really a fantastic looking dio! I agree on the grass looking a little out of scale. Dont feel bad though, I have done the exact same thing and thought that it would look finer than it did. I have never used this stuff, too expensive. But it is supposed to be really, really good. My link

This looks sooo great! The cockpit in particular is just fantastic. Great job sir! Can I have it?
