  1. i'd worry about the white on those decals, i love hasegawa decals BUT their white is really more of a cream color. If i were doing a T-bird, i'd want white
  2. This from the McDonnell Douglas "Plane Captains' Handbook" revised January 1970. I've had this little gem along with one for the F-4E and F-15 since the early 80s when I was in a flight test unit at Holloman. I think a Mac Air tech rep gave them to me. panel 148 l&r (the "bump" over the main struts) was installed on b/n "153912ab and up. also all other F-4B after AFC 230 (part lll)." slotted stab- "F-4B 152995z and up, and F-4J. Also F-4B thru 152994y after AFC218. hope this is of use. Bill
  3. F-4B 152995z and up, and F-4J. Also F-4B thru 152994y after AFC 218. I got that out of an old mac air plane captain's handbook revised jan 1970. mac air gave these little reference books to service members back in the day. while i was in the usaf i got mac doug to give me one of these on the F-4B/J, E and F-15.
  4. i checked the burin do "Famous Airplanes of the World No 11 Nov 1981 and there are some dang good and detailed 1/72 side elevations both L and R and upper and lower plan views. If you'll tell me how to get them to you, i'll give it my best.
  5. i think theere might be some in an old burin do booklet on the 106. i'll check
  6. Simon, I'll try to be pithy on the subject which is hard for me at times. I was around the MB MK7 in the USAF quite a bit so I can explain colors accurately. First the mk7 wads comprised of two main components. the main beam and the bucket. the main beam was the vertical part sticking up and plainly in view. the main beam and all of the accessories mounted on it were basically semi gloss black. the drogue gun, a cylindrical shaped item on the left uppermost part of the main beam was black but had bright red warning decals with white lettering. in the top of the main beam was the duplex drogu
  7. If you're going to do the landing gear down locks, then canopy safety struts are a must as they were ALWAYS installed if the airplane was going to sit for more than just a few minutes. in the USAF they were considered one of the egress safing features. other safing devices prominent on the F-4 were aux air door safety struts, arresting hook uplock and wing fold safety up locks. finally, there was an a/r probe safety lock that fit over the piston on the probe acuator similar to the gear down locks. i don't know if the navy used them routinely but i can tell you the above mentioned locks were im
  8. brush or spray on future. this forms a bullet proof coating and adds shine
  9. i use a new no.11 blade to scrape a thin "hair" of the seam off, then sand with fine wet or dry. i follow this with a fine cream polish. believe it or not, harley davidson chrome polish is really good for this. finally a dunk in future if you like.
  10. The panels in question are scab patches from simulated battle damage. apparently an "ABDR" (airframe battle damage repair) aircraft, that's usaf parlance, was used for taking measurements by the model maker. surplus abdr jets have been scattered around airbases for structural repair technicians to get experience making such repairs in a wartime environment. tamiya's 32nd F-4s have these. to be really accurate, you should remove these unless you are modeling a fictitious aircraft with these installed.
  11. Yes, I've done it and it will work with moderate effort. First, the a/r probe well will interfere with the rio's station. the easy fix is to leave the well out and cement the probe door closed. i trimmed the well way down since i intended from the jump to do the probe extended. this gave adequate room to install the rio's side wall and leave enough of the well to mount the probe. the next area needing attention is the nose gear well. i trimmed the resin tub as thin as i could then left the kit "roof" off of the gear well and trimmed the side walls down. with some trimming and dry fitting all w
  12. "all exterior surfaces except as specified" includes wheel wells, flap wells, api exhaust path, heater exhaust path FS16373 "white caps as required" FS17875. "USAF on wings and "US Air Force" on fus, "band" (cheat stripe) FS15044, serial numberFS17038, anti glare FS37038. All excerpted from a Mar 1978 T.O 1-1-4. hope this answers your question.
  13. model master's 16473 is dead on i think. xtracolor does a nice one too
  14. Jeez, I've done been told off. You're right, I missed your point
