VX-4 1/72nd decals?
Jonathan_Lotton replied to Chris_Teet's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
The last time I was at the Point Mugu Air Show (April 2000) and I was able to get up close and personal with Vandy 1, she did have a flat black anti-glare panel infront of the nose and along the canopy rails. When I saw her, both her horozontal stabilizer edges and her wing leading edges were natural metal. This MAY have changed tho, so it's really only accurate for a year 2001 Vandy 1 -
VX-4 1/72nd decals?
Jonathan_Lotton replied to Chris_Teet's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
VX-4 I believe always had a black bunny (maybe 2) from around 1975? untill they combined with VX-5 to form VX-9, and had a black bunny all the way up untill July 2004. However, they did not for a long time have large (or even small) Playboy Bunny during the 90's, and only recently before they left Point Mugu did they regain their large Playboy Bunnies -

Ya know..For a brief..brief moment, my heart skipped a beat, and I could hear angels singing, no..could it be? they've seen their mistake and are beginning to make D models again?...but alas, those brief half seconds died away, but it's still great to see people working on Tomcats...models at least Keep sharp objects away man, dont want to see you slit your wrists over the Fujimi kits :o -
Stupid Question Time!!!
Jonathan_Lotton replied to MaRiO FDZ's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
For my Black Knights Tomcat, I'm going to do a very, very thin tinting of the forward windscreen with thinned down acryl green, then an even thinner tint of light blue. Looks good so far in the tests. -
Spongebob's Tomcat
Jonathan_Lotton replied to Spongebob's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
Hey, that Tomcat is a killer! Quick question Sponge, what weathering techniques did you use? also, how exactly did you manage the tame the fusalage/nose section joint? -
I've seen people with sections of modern aircraft carrier decking, which includes the jet-blast deflectors and catapult tracks, but..where are they available if they are even able to be purchased? Someone mentioned Verlinden, but I cant seem to find it. Any suggestions how to make a section or where to buy it?

I believe the reason why they were purchased was because they were nuclear-capable, where the ones sold to Iran were not. Btw...what is Iran's front line fighter now? Surely it's Tomcats and aging Phantoms must be replaced soon.

Starting Second Tomcat!
Jonathan_Lotton replied to Jonathan_Lotton's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
I am debating on either the OEF (2003) era markings, or the markings for November 1998, witht he large "Black Knight" on the tail. I think I'm gonna go with the OEF markings though, like yours, because..well, because I really like those markings..heh. -
Hey all, just dropping a line to say that my second Tomcat (following my VF-101 Tomcat) offically started construction today! It's the Hasegawa Black Knights History kit, 1/48 Hasegawa. Will post up pics when it's further along.

How..did they ever think to call the Phantom "Ugly"... Wonderful job!

Finally some progress to report!
Jonathan_Lotton replied to jward's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
As far as I know.. VF-1 and VF-2 Tomcats wore the gull gray/white undersides scheme all through their cruises on the Enterprise. When they went to the Ranger, they went to overall gull grey, then further into the 80's, they went to various low-viz schemes. -
1/72 Hasegawa F-14A...The "old" Kit.
Jonathan_Lotton replied to Don's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
looking hot! -
Well, that would certainly be an insanely cool project, the hard part would be to choose which high/low vis scheme to do from said squadron Since they often had multiple different schemes. Personally, I found VF-2's final high viz scheme to be insanely cool, as well as VF-41's, something....classy about that darker grey color and markings

What the crap?
Jonathan_Lotton replied to phantom's topic in The 2005 ARC/ScaleAIR Tomcat Group Build
Careful, when things go too well, it's bound to explode in your face later Good luck tho ;) -
Lookin good Chuck, keep em comming

Hey all, I have the all the Hasegawa weapon sets, however, I know they do not have the correct bomb racks to add to the phoenix pallets in order to make a proper Bombcat. I know some scratch build them, can anyone provide tips on how to do that beyond the simple "get plastic, cut and glue" style thing, any recommended thickness? etc etc. Discriptions or pictures would be greatly appriciated!

Nope, I ain't gonna find a NEW love, Not for me. I've always been a Tomcat fan, and will always be one till the day I draw my last breath. Even if they're all in the boneyard, I'll still keep building Tomcats. :) Say it loud and say it proud man! I dont care if they're all in the boneyards, gate guards or in museums, I'll still love the Tomcat, no matter what, no "new love" for me. But guys, look at this alright? there will be a day when F-14's are in civilian hands, look at the F-86,F-100 and F-4, there will be a day when the F-14 returns to the airshows to remind people just who w
