1/48. Interesting to know for another source for those. For this build, knowing that it’s a P&W logo and it probably only had the logo for the air show, I probably won’t bother since I can portray it at a different time on the 1965 cruise without them. No other photos I’ve found of VF-32 F-8s on carriers or otherwise had this logo or a squadron badge. Unless I can find a VF-32 badge that looks like the one in the picture, I’ll probably skip both.

Since I got lucky on the first one, I'll follow this up with another question for you guys or anyone else... Any kit or aftermarket sheet you could think of that might have a good VF-32 badge that might work for that plane in the photo?
-
Apparently they can be found here https://fundekals.net/product/radialengine/# not sure if I'd pay $12 just for these but good to know

Ahh brilliant, definitely makes sense as well. Probably something they put on for the air show. Thanks guys! Wonder if anyone's ever made some decals of that logo. I'm not deadset on portraying this plane at this specific moment at this air show, but it would be neat.

Rando started following Paint Poll, Anyone know what these badges are on this F-8D?, Is ARC out of business....? and 5 others

I'm curious if anyone can tell what this badge is on the aft end of this F-8D. It's just below the trailing edges of the wings, on both sides of the fuselage, forward of the NAVY lettering. This F-8D was stationed on the USS Saratoga in 1965, and is pictured here at the Paris Air Show that same year. I can tell that the larger blue badge under the wing is a VF-32 squadron badge. Just interested if anyone has any ideas of what it is, on the off chance that some decals of it exist or could be made of it. TIA! 2013927-121979-32-pristine.avif

Differences between the F-8E and F-8J Crusader ???
Rando replied to Scooter Man's topic in Jet Modeling
For the fictitious wing fold joint bumps, the remedy is usually to deepen the panel lines of the joints and sand down the bumps, and continue to sand them down/deepen the lines until they are gone. However, if you like to display your F-8 with folded wing tips, you could get a Wolfpack wing folding set, which removes that joint in the process. It's work either way, but I often like building Navy jets with wings folded just to save shelf space. AFAIK for the nose vents, sanding them down and restoring the detail is pretty much the only option. Another one is the large starboard plan -
There's Britmodeller which is excellent I find and probably the most similar alternative. Very active and doesn't seem plagued by ads, although I use an ad blocker. I've been saving screencaps and printing ARC pages to PDF files. Particularly Tom Weinel's old posts.

Had something shipped from Sprue Brothers' eBay through USPS. It shipped Wednesday, arrived at the regional facility on Friday, so you'd think "great, I'll get it Saturday at the latest". Instead it sat all weekend and is out for delivery today.

I was so excited about CAT4's conversion kits released last year, but there's some accuracy issues with the nosecone that I'm still trying to figure out. They corrected their first pass with their "F-8H conversion set", but it's still on the short side. Then they came out with an "F-8A early big set" which comes with two nosecones, both longer than the corrected F-8H nose, and different shape and length. It's confusing and I just want something correct!

I just want full kit early F-8s and RF-8s in 1/48.

1/48 F-100 2 SEAT CONVERSION
Rando replied to dai phan's topic in Buy and sell - add scale to your title
I'm not familiar enough with the F-100F's differences from the F-100D, or the flaws of the Trumpeter F-100F, but the crazy modeler in me wonders if you could rescribe the Monogram F-100 and kitbash it with the Trumpeter to make your F-100F. It would cost you two kits to make one, but you'd also have to pay a similar amount for a hard-to-find conversion. That said the changes you would incorporate from the Trumpeter kit might not be accurate enough for you. I feel the pain of hunting down conversion kits for underserved subjects, and also not being too thrilled with the more modern -
Differences between the F-8E and F-8J Crusader ???
Rando replied to Scooter Man's topic in Jet Modeling
Question about the F-8H that I've not been able to get a firm answer on. I know that it was a remanufactured F-8D, receiving most of the F-8E features like the bullpup hump, etc. My question is, was it further upgraded to have the BLC, larger horizontal stabs, and the features that the F-8J was known for? Reason being is I am interested in building the F-8H from this decal sheet: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/aeromaster-48-751-colorful-crusaders-pt-viii--173390 That F-8H is circa 1973, and it has the larger ECM blister on the tail like the F-8J. I've seen in one of my reference -
While I get this in theory, I feel like #6 usually just means....more Tomcat/109/P-51 stuff. As much as Eduard has brought to the table over the years it feels like they could do so much more, lately instead are cranking out more of the same popular single engine WWII stuff. Fortunately Kursad is definitely one of those aftermarket guys who gets it and is willing to fill the voids.

The last question I could give two answers--ease of use and durability, but you could make the case that durability falls under ease of use. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to mask something off only for the tape to lift paint under it, which is why I moved on from Mission Models. Alcohol/lacquer based acrylics give me no trouble, ever. I also picked Gunze as my "favorite" but Tamiya is like 1B to 1A. Their main drawback to me is they don't have certain specific colors in their range like Gunze does, but they're also way more available. Thanks for the poll
