F106A
Those panels are self-adhesive neoprene 'FOD protection'. They are designed to protect the aircraft from grit and stones on unprepared fields. They have been applied the bellies of 'K' models for some time, but are now appearing on the sides of the 'J' models as well as over the bellies (more powerful engines creating more backblast and therefore greater spread of grit). The long-term intention is for all RAF Herks to 'go green' once again as they pass through major overhauls. In the meantime, the pre-coloured neoprene panels have been applied to the grey aircraft. (Now how do you get all those lovely little holes replicated in 1.72 scale??? Hey thanks! We were staring at that Herk and had no idea what that was. Very cool and it makes sense now! I appreciate the close up photos as well! Mark
F106A
Saw an interesting one today from the Romanian Air Force! According to Wiki this is one of two flyable B-model Hercs they have. Wow! More to follow but right now I'm having some fun with photobucket! Mark Edited August 28, 2008 by F106A

F106A
A couple shots of a ROKAF C-130. These guys are parked across the field from us but I never get over there and this is the first time I've been able to get a shot of one. I really like the art forward of the gills. Pretty cool! F106A
A couple shots of an RAF Herk we parked next to somewhere in the desert. Note the MV-22 and the An-12 in the background. It was a busy place for awhile as there were two C-17s and a World Air MD-11 cargo out there that day too. This plane has clearly been used over here but compared to my '74 H-model it still had that new plane smell to me! Mark Edited September 28, 2008 by F106A

martin_sam_2000
I like that glass cockpit! I like ANY glass cockpit. I know a guy who flies PC-12's and he said the newest version is easier to fly than Flight Sim!!!! A Cessna Columbia with the new Garmin cockpit(its not a 1000..there is a brand new one) has got to be the slickest plane around. Sean
