Antonov
China's CCTV attempts to pass off old clips from Top Gun as a successful J-10 combat test, hilarity ensues: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/29/c...-_n_815639.html
Jay Chladek
Well, at least they didn't use Iron Eagle footage. Although the use of F-5 footage to me is a not so subtle jab at Taiwan as don't they still use F-5Es in some secondary roles these days?

William G
((Start Sarcasm Mode)) Oh Come on. Everyone know that there is only one way to get a good kill against the F-5 and Everyone knows that The F-5 has only the one weak spot. Therefore Every time you fire a missile and destroy the F-5 it will look exactly the same, right down to the seperation of the stab and the fuselage. dixieflyer
Funny enough, but when they mentioned the use of an x-ray of Homer Simpson's head to illustrate the genitic link to MS I just lost it.
SBARC
IIRC that was a "Russian" F-5....which raises the question......when were China and Russia in a dog fight? :D
Tony Stark
IIRC that was a "Russian" F-5....which raises the question......when were China and Russia in a dog fight? :D A common mistake, that's actually a MiG-28.
The_Animal
Maybe they were trying to pass it off as a Taiwanese F-5.
GreyGhost
(Photo: © Gregg Irons) Actually, they were just threatening their Aircrews with having to fly rubber dog crap out of Hong Kong if they screw up ... Gregg
Abakan
That is probably propaganda to lure us into underestimating the Chinese. After all...it`s from the Huffpuff Post, aka Pravda West. Not quite what I consider an unbiased newssource. FAH!
Steve N
Would you prefer the exact same story from a more "Fair and Balanced" source? Edited January 30, 2011 by Steve N

Abakan
Would you prefer the exact same story from a more "Fair and Balanced" source? So both Fox and Huffpuff get their news from the WSJ?
Tony Stark
Going to either Huff or Fox for reliable news is like going to Canada looking for penguins.

I agree with your basic argument, and would add even more U.S.-based news sources, but your comparison..... Eh....well....Sydney Crosby.... TaiidanTomcat
Rather than whining about Fox, WSJ, or huffpo, how about we just enjoy the absolute stupidity of this whole Top Gun thing? Funny enough, but when they mentioned the use of an x-ray of Homer Simpson's head to illustrate the genitic link to MS I just lost it. Steve N
Going to either Huff or Fox for reliable news is like going to Canada looking for penguins. That was kind of my point. These days everybody goes to whatever media source fits their own personal bias, and accuses all the others of being slanted against them. Few if any of the media organizations make any pretense at being neutral any more..it's all "us against them" rhetoric. Rather than whining about Fox, WSJ, or huffpo, how about we just enjoy the absolute stupidity of this whole Top Gun thing? Hear Here!! And while we're at it, how about those rivets on Trumpeter kits?
