ChippyWho
Jeebers, that was a long couple of days... Upon our return from a short break away, it became painfully obvious that my dear wife no longer gave credence to my feeble reasons for not tackling the diabolical growth in our garden (I told her I was sure there was a Predator hiding in it, and this year it grows hot...). But at last I am able to turn my poor, thorn-gouged fingers back to the task in hand -hope to have some progress this weekend. Hope everyone has a good one!

Off from work today, and I've been granted a favor from the weather Gods, it's raining, so I can't work outside on the lawn and garden. Just have to occupy my time at the bench. Touch job, but someone has to do it. :rolleyes:/> Joel
Don
Boy your Hun sure is coming along nicely . She will look amazing. How do you not like the lines of these Century Series aircraft. No offense to fans of the modern era combat aircraft (F22, F35 etc) but to me they just seem to lack the character of aircraft like the F-100, or the brute power look of the One-O-Wonder. Keep us posted please. Speaking of weather...I am thinking I may need to start taking up boat building...as in full scale boat building! We seem to be getting four days of rain and only three days without rain . The ground is completely saturated. It's getting rather irritating... <_< Good luck with your continued progress. Cheers! Netz
Now in the throes of flushing the new panel lines with Extra Thin Cement (apparently MEK works better, but I don't have any). This certainly makes them look a lot neater. You can use regular paint thinner to clean the dust from the panelines. I like MEK, I was well supplied from my Dads work source. tobiK
What's MEK? I use "Ethylacetat" (ethyl acetate), I got it in a 1 Liter can. That's my fave liquid cement (and also seam cleaner).
ChippyWho
Howdy folks; still beavering away with this one. The Aires cockpit is even now being installed, it looks like it will work out OK. Some photos of the Seat of Shame -my rip of the MMS 1/32 one! Sometimes you see something and think, 'That's what I want it to look like!' and 'PLEASE don't sue...!' Busy enough, I think. :) Edited September 3, 2014 by ChippyWho
The Madhatter
mate that's a beauty rocket seat you have there! I wish mine would look that nice.... I quite enjoy seeing the labours of your work :) Looking forward to your next installment MH
ThePhantomTwo
If the seat is any indication on how the rest of the build will look,it will be stunning!
ChippyWho
Thanks for the kind comments, guys. Still fine-tuning the cockpit fit, then for some proper sticky-together action!
Enrywar67
Hi Chippy....you're making a very good work......I know something.... !!!But you have a better "chair" and the right tanks....I've used those of the box.Good modeling from Italy!!!Enry.

ChippyWho
Enry and Joel, belated thanks for your positive comments -very much appreciated! Actually managed to grab some Quality Time with this project over the weekend; it's proving tricky to get the Aires instrument panel and coaming at the right sort of height without making the windscreen installation impossible. The Monogram screen is clear but very thick; to avoid messing it up I've ordered a Squadron vac-form item which may solve the problem. Everything else should fit OK, but I'm working it from the front as there is more room for adjustment at the rear/spine end of the cockpit. Some more fiddling is needed to get the main tub in, but luckily there is still loads of plastic in the fuselage sides despite my having removed nearly enough to mould a 1/72 kit! ChippyWho
Taking a sabbatical from this for the StarFish 2TGB -and whilst awaiting the hot new Hun exhausts from Sierra Hotel Models. I think this is the only way to get an F-102 can that looks the part -no amount of fiddling with the Eduard bits (and a pipe commandeered from a Trumpy kit) is getting me anywhere close to the photos. Many thanks to everyone for following thus far; I hope the re-boot will be worth looking in on soon!
ThePhantomTwo
Looking forward to your upcoming resumption of this build.I too am waiting for SH burner cans, the -102 can was what slowed me down on my Trumpeter build, that and the drop tanks,I have everything else I think for it.It'll be awhile before I get to mine though,I have a C-47 and F-4 project I need to work on and finish. ChippyWho
Cheers Sir! Please look in on my StarFish build sometime -it's another Century bird, of sorts! (I just hope it doesn't turn out more of a sea urchin...) Edited September 2, 2014 by ChippyWho

ChippyWho
Ah Gaaaad! That StarFish debacle...close on two years gone, and my fingers are still sore and stiff from the 'viral arthritis' that scuppered my lovely Italian Zipper. But some days are better than others; in fact they are a LOT better now I have moved back home (just outside London, Guv'nor!), and it's time to re-boot this petrified project. See, I never actually give up on anything...I just wait a while for everything else to catch up with me! I've said it (many times) before, and I'll say it again: Sierra Hotel's F-102-style exhaust is the very business, and cures all the kit's and Eduard's burner ills: All aboard...! Major Walt
I have 2 of these in my stash, but not the courage to build one. The amazing work you have done inspires me. Awesome job on a beautiful aircraft!

Just had another look at the Big Bits and noticed that some of my re-scribing around the nose leaves quite a lot to be desired, so there will be some messing with cyano glue filler and such before assembly proper begins, but I'll admit I'm really looking forward to getting this one out of hibernation! :)

From what I see, your scribing looks like it came straight from the factory. Again, this is an enjoyable build to watch.
ThePhantomTwo
I stopped all work on my Trumpeter F-100D waiting for the -102 nozzle to be released, never have seen it as available on their website or anywhere else for that matter
ChippyWho
Thanks again, Major Walt! ThePhantomTwo, great to hear from you -hope you and family are all good! IIRC, I got 2 or 3 cans (Trumpy and Mono, both types) by pestering Netz (Curt) thru the forums here. I think he cast up a few for SMW or a Nats gig or something and sold me some of those. Probably worth a PM to see if he still has any. Cheers.
ThePhantomTwo
I might do that. As far as good, still have the same health issues and now have to have eye surgery due to cataracts,so yet another thing I have to pay for with money I don't have....lol

Been a bit under the weather myself the last couple of years...things I was hoping to avoid until well into my old age, but I guess I'm already there! Let me know if you have any luck with the SHM exhaust; if that doesn't work out I can probably sort something out for you with one of mine -I think there is a Trumpeter one around here somewhere...
