Buck
Aloha All, It's been a few years since finishing anything but it sure feels good to finally knock something out ;)/> When I saw Bandai's new line of Star Wars kits I just HAD to give at least two of them a try... Love'm, really great kits! Both were built straight of the box, Vader's Tie completed over a couple of nights and the X-wing took about a week. No issues, panel lines are a little heavy, but aside from that just enjoyable builds. Assembly sequence is pretty important, as I found out the hard way, but that self-induced problem was quickly remedied with an Xacto & some "coaxing". Both kit's were painted with Mr. Color lacquers shot through both a Grex & Iwata airbrush. The Red 2 marking were simply painted on as only Red 5's markings are provided with the kit. I'll probably add a few dry transfer markings at some point to "better" represent Wedge's Starfighter. Feels great to be back, seems like a ton of cool new kits out there that need build'n!!! gonzalo
Those kits are fantastic! I have the Speeder Bike on its way from Japan.
nicholassagan
Really great work on both!! I love a good red 2!!
B.Sin
I really like to see them in 1/48th scale or large. BTW, nice work!
Buck
I really like to see them in 1/48th scale or large. BTW, nice work! The X-Wing is Bandai's 48th scale "Moving" edition, but the Tie is only 72nd. I'd love to see Vader's Tie & the Y-Wing in 48th as well ;)/> 100% concur on larger scale Star Wars kits someday!!! Big mahalo for the kind words all, hope to finish a couple of old Fine Molds kits that have been sitting for the last few years. Mark

Andrew D. the Jolly Rogers guy
Wow! I've got to say, I do love seeing builds of X-Wings other than Red 5. Nothing against Luke, but I love seeing something new. Man, this made my day!
Buck
Aloha all & many thanks! Always appreciated & motivating as well :cheers:/> Actually looking at working on a couple of older Fine Mold kits that have been collecting dust for the last few years ;)/> Ahui hou Mark

kellyF15
Just a little off subject, Has anyone found any reviews on the Bandai Y-wing? Im just wondering how it compares in shape and dimensions to Fine Molds and Revell...
Ken Cartwright
Here's a video overview of the Bandai kit, comparing it a little to the Fine Molds kit:
Buck
Any tips on the X-Wing? Love the paintjob! Not really Anthony, it builds beautifully & quickly. Sequence of assembly is pretty important as many of the parts interlock or are secured by other assemblies. I skipped a few steps to facilitate painting and played hell trying to get the rear portion of the canopy frame installed. The kit breakdown makes it a breeze to paint and weather as well. A very well executed kit. Thanks again all, definitely give these Bandai kits a go! Ahui hou, Mark
VF-19
Just a heads up for those who are interested in getting Bandai's kits. DO NOT WAIT. Disney is starting to demand that licensing agreements be honored. Apparently, there's a bit in the contract that Bandai signed that mentions that their stuff is only for sale in Japan, and not to be sold out side of Japan. Hobbysearch's english page has removed all of Bandai's Star Wars offerings. HLJ still has them up for sale. For Now. See here: https://m.facebook.com/BrucesScaleModelingDomain/photos/a.356162081142577.83789.356160371142748/883582135067233/?type=1 for some details. This new bit of info made me go and order Bandai's 1:72 X-Wing (from HLJ), and as soon as it's paid for, it'll be shipped with the Y-Wing that I've had sitting in private warehouse at HLJ. duck
We need to start a petition to have Disney allow the Bandai kits in the U.S..
VF-19
These restrictive licensing agreements only hurt the consumer. I don't get it. Isn't the purpose of a company to make money? This kind of setup seems to be the opposite of that...

Buck
May I ask what paints/colors you used for this? I'd love to try and get close... Aloha Anthony, Of course, no problem at all! I used Mr.Color lacquers almost exclusively with these builds, all thinned with Mr.Hobby leveling thinner (about 30/70, paint to thinner ratio). Neither Bandai kit includes paint reference numbers so I followed Fine-Molds instructions. I’ve built most of their kits and have the instructions handy but you can find them online as well. Here’s a quick rundown of what I used: Vader’s Tie… #74(Air Superiority Blue)– Overall color, #33 – Black solar panels(?), #13 – Windscreen frame & details Red 2 X-Wing… #315( Gloss Gull Gray) – Overall color, #114 – Red stripe & S-foil markings, #113 + a drop of #119 for Yellow markings, #74 – Canopy frame, #13 – random markings, #101 – Canopy tint. Also added a little white to various colors to mix things up a bit ;) Weathering was accomplished using masking fluid and the table salt technique. Panel lines accentuate with Tamiya panel line wash (I went a bit overboard, oops, rusty). Filtered using one of AK Interactive's products to better blend everything and tone down the panel lines a bit. And finally, sealed everything up with a coat of Mr.Super Clear UV Cut flat. Hope that helps a little, Looking forward to seeing your builds! ahui hou Mark Edited September 10, 2015 by Buck

I do hope you manage to get hold of one Brain, that and Disney ease up on their need for more green. Good luck on the quest sir! Mark
