Ilias
Here is a photo of s/n 01510 with a uniquely painted tail fin. The photo is taken in one of the photo sessions where the F-4E Phantom Under the Skin material was collected... A bit of history re the 338 squadron's moto: where was the phrase "H ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ" used from? Edited February 5, 2016 by Ilias
scott_t
did a search and found ..... ancient Spartan motto "Η ΤΑΝ Η ΕΠΙ ΤΑΣ" "[return home] either with your shield, or upon it"
EagleAviation
Well done! That is what the mothers of the ancient Spartan warriors used to say when their sons left for battle to face the barbarians. You either come back winner with your shield or upon it dead. It actually notes the strong will of the Spartans to fight for freedom.
Ilias
That's correct. This is something that mothers in Sparta used to say to their sons before they were sent to war.
Ilias
To the Phantom connaisseurs... where is the below placard located on the F-4E AUP Phantoms?

ya-gabor
Wasn’t that on the nose gear door? If I remember right there was one more next to it but I could be wrong. Did lots of photogrphy of F-4's back in late 1970's to early 90's. Best regards Gabor Edited February 7, 2016 by ya-gabor

Spotter
Really which one? Hi Ionnais, not meant to hijack your thread, but there is the Airdoc publication: "Panavia Tornado: The Tornado IDS/ECR (Luftwaffe) in the 21st Century" http://www.amazon.com/Panavia-Tornado-Luftwaffe-References-Enthusiasts/dp/3935687176
EagleAviation
That is OK. I did not about that. But what is the level of detail? usually these books have a lot of info and nice shots but very limited detail for the modeler.
Antoine
I've the Corsair II book, in their Modeller's essential collection. Level of detail is good enough, but whatever, the book is not available on amazon, and not even at the Little Shop of Phantom. So there's indeed some room for a new book. falcon91352
Aerospezial has a few copies left. https://www.aero-spezial-modellbauversand.de/Fachliteratur/AirDOC/FT001-Tornado-IDS-ECR-Luftwaffe-im-21-Jahrhundert::7706.html The Tornado book has over 750 colour photographs and goes very deep in detail, hence an ideal reference of Luftwaffe Tornados for modellers. Antoine
I already have all the photos I need for the Mirage 2000 Under The Skin covering both Mirage 2000C/E and "dash 5". Can you please elaborate a bit, if possible, Yannis? Which version/country, exactly? French C really? Greek EG, that's for sure. And both -5?
EagleAviation
Hi Antoine, The book will cover the Mirage 2000 in Hellenic Air Force service but it will be useful to all Mirage fans around the world. The differences between the Mirage 2000 serving around the globe are scarce found mainly on the color of the camo with the exemption of the Mirage 2000D and N. It will cover Mirage 2000EGM/GBM and Mirage 2000-5Mk2. So all the weapons available will be displayed!
