FASTEAGLE107
Some building this week. I have completed front wheel well assembly and painting (require some testing and sanding before glueing). Also opening the maintenance panels underside to see the engine (pathologic idea i confess). Detailled the engines before painting. The parts for the engine nacelles need to be rescribed as their details are somewhere differents (looks like they dont came from the same kit, weird...). Putty work again on the exhaust and the cockpit. So far this kit is the more detailled kit of the Tomcat i've ever seen OOB. All comments are welcome
FASTEAGLE107
Hello Folks! WIP update. Instruments panels are done. Make some minor modification on the upper vents near the spine to match my reference pics. Open up the manitenance doors of the both engines (oftenly seen opened when the thing is parked). Dealing with the bombs and missiles...to be continued See you soon for the engines

phantom
The detail in this kit is great, and you need a great job on the paint.

I will use Alclad 309 black microfiller first. A black basing technique should be appropriate? What do you think?

There is so much sprue trees in this box and i need a jig for the forthcoming steps (painting, decaling, etc...) so i decided to tinker an homemade thing for that. Not very sure of it's lifetime 😉. Here is the model (unglued) sitting on it. Also this is a good derivative to me as i'm currently not glueing anything (test fitting, sanding most of the time). FASTEAGLE107
Hello folks. Just a small update to share my thoughts about the specific texture of the walkways located upon the air intakes. This antislip areas are quite visibles and show signs of aging. I give a try the A.MIG-2033 paste (1/35 scale, the sand color one). I think the product is usefull for AFV project but for aircraft? and the result is great to me. I delimit the area with some tape, apply generously the paste. Just remove it with a spatula, remove the tape and "Voila!" (like Doogs says). When it dries a thin granular film will remain. Photos show the result on the upper fuselage. All your experience with this product are welcome. Stephane Edited March 1, 2021 by FASTEAGLE107
crackerjazz
Awesome work so far, Stephane! Great attention to detail. I've been wondering about what walkway color this is as I couldn't find any references for it -- so there really are sand-colored walkways? And it looks like that product is the key : )
phantom
Looks great, but all the references I have so far seen for the last cruise pencil Tomcat show the walkways with very little difference in colour from 36237. Its there, your sand effect and dirty 36237 will be enough.

Perhaps the tint can appear in transparency with a thin layer of the FS35237 ? Such a shade of walkway is not so common, is it? In the case of Maverick planes this gives a worn look of the most beautiful effect I find. At this point i don't know how to deal with the paint of this area. FS36237 can be a solution.
FASTEAGLE107
UPDATE BABY! Spent hours after work detailling engines with lead wire and wrapping thin copper wire. Some good reference on the internet and in the Daco book for that. I sprayed Alcald lacquer and yellow acrylic paint on the exhaust covers (weathering is not very realistic to my taste....will try another thing). Will finish the engines tomorrow and glue them to the engine nacelles ASAP to move to the final building stages. To be continued this weekend Edited March 5, 2021 by FASTEAGLE107
crackerjazz
Yikes, you're not serious about this, by the looks of it : ) That's some really incredible scratch-building, Fasteagle! Very nice! : )

FASTEAGLE107
UPDATE BABY! I give a try to composite fiber decals on the engine shrouds. The result is stunning even if i experienced liftups on one of them : very fragile even with 3 gloss varnish coats. 😀 At least the "box" is closed right now. I need to give a strong hand to glue the two halves firmly (two components glue used on the nacelles and air intakes and wheel well). Assembling the cockpit and front wheel well inside the front piece is flawless so far. Glueing the front of the fuselage to the rear parts will be more tricky. To be continued....stay safe Edited March 11, 2021 by FASTEAGLE107
