The Poles have arrived!!

On Thursday the 9th of June, four SU-22 Fitters arrived at RAF Coltishall for a week of flying in the UK. Since I'd never seen Fitters before, I decided to take a trip to Coltishall on the Friday to see if I could watch the Fitters fly.

A-Model makes a kit of the An-26 in 1/72 scale too, it's supposed to be pretty nice as well.

I've kicked around the idea of doing one to put next to my An-72, the two light transports together, but I haven't decided if I'm going to do it or not yet...

I have the Amodel An-26 stashed away - I have already made the 'Russian Project' kit of the same :-

http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/models...an-26_modl.html

Russian Project have also done the An-24 - the passenger variant - also in my stash.

The An-26 has a rear loading ramp, the An-24 does not.

Amodel are also planning to make the An-30 (camera-ship with glazed nose and raised cockpit) and the An-32 (like the An-26 but with bigger, more powerful engines that are raised above the wing.

As for Antonov models, I did a display showing my An-22 :- http://www.flankerman.fsnet.co.uk/modl_an-22.html

An-12 (Roden kit), An-26 (Russian Project), An-74 (Toko), An-71 (Toko converted), An-14 (Plastikart) and An-2 (Italeri).

All it needed to complete the collection was the An-38 (Broplan vacform), An-124 and An-225 (promised from Heavykit - but, sadly, now no longer available).

I must be the exception here as I found this aircraft to be a LOT more attractive and interesting. The three tone green camo looks great. Hate to show my ignorance but what type of plane is that?

A few more pics of the An-26 (13 ELT of the Polish Air Force):

Thanks Prowler, those pics are great!

I'm getting pushed further and further towards building a Polish An-26, does anybody have a picture that shows the camoflague scheme on the upper surfaces?

Ken,

I'm familiar with your An-22 and was even considering a "Antonov prop lineup" after seeing the gallery here a couple of days ago. But then I remembered how often I move, and that I don't have any dedicated display space, and I decided that maybe a An-26/An-72 display would be a bit more reasonable.

No matter what, a beautiful looking airplane...

You can find more of their photos here, here, here, here and here

I have some drawings of this camouflage scheme somewhere... I'll try to find them

Koen L - that is right - in xXx were Czech Fitters used and it was one of their last flying - soon after the pictures for xXx were taken - the aircraft were retired.

For habu - a bit study of National marks could help. Polish one is QUITE different from Czech ones

I may just take an hour or two off and go and have another look myself, only 10 mins down the road from here.

Do it as you won't be disapointed. I'm working nights all this week so last Friday was my one and only chance to see them. I'd love to go back though.

Here's some very good photographs that somebody took on the Monday...

More Fitters
