the new 1/72 Academy F-16CG/CJ block40/50

Recommended Posts

less than a week after i started, the 1/72 academy f-16cj is done and hot off my worktable. apart from the many glaring mistakes that other users have identified with the kit, i added my own mistakes, like yellow 'rescue' stencils and an oversize '048' for the plane number.

since i'm leading the way, so to speak, in building this new kit, i would have expected flaming to come. lol.

overall the fit of the plane is good, accuracy is 80-90% correct for a block 50. as i have not built the revell new mould, i can't compare it decisively, but this kit comes as a welcomed addition to the 'panel lines only' version of the f-16cj by hasegawa. decals for the wolfpack and tigerboss are very nice, but i didn't use them at all, instead scrounging up spares for 048 from the greek airforce.

a few points to note in construction are the tinted canopy glasses, make sure you check your individual airframe references to avoid my mistake (inevitably i have no choice, i'm at lack of options). the amraams fintips are wrong. and the cockpit is lacking so aftermarket parts could do well.

okay. now i'm looking at the 2nd box, and thinking of doing either a polish 4040 blk 52 or the chilean airforce. just pop a question here too, the polish blk 52s have a NSI small mouth or MCID big mouth for their pratt whitneys? i'm always confused.
