Scooby
Is there any word on how good this kit is yet? There is a built one in the Critques section. I like mine but others have slammed the kit (the anti-Hobby Boss people).

Stephen
There is a built one in the Critques section. I like mine but others have slammed the kit (the anti-Hobby Boss people). That would be mine . I like the kit,the fit is generally good and the parts are nicely detailed. There are lots of options for the super detailer with open gunbay, separate engine, open radome. The kit is let down by the cockpit and the lack of centreline pylon both issue which can be addressed by aftermarket parts forthcoming .Other than that it's perfectly buildable and the negative comments are from people who haven't laid eyes on the plastic. Jay Chladek
Biggest gripes I've heard about from one guy locally who built one was the cockpit. The seat is too short and there are also two noticeable gaps between the cockpit sidewalls and the side consoles. A resin seat and some styrene strip or sheet can fix those problems. My buddy also wasn't too enthused about the seperate control surfaces as he had a bit of a chore putting them in the closed positions as opposed to drooped. But the plane looks okay. BTW, don't worry about anything you hear concerning misshapen F-105D noses on this kit or the Monogram one. A friend of mine in one of the clubs was an F-105 Crew Chief and he says the Monogram and HB kit noses are correct according to the drawings. The slight curve you see in pictures is an optical illusion. Indeed I have looked close at an F-105D close by and indeed from certain angles, that top nose profile is straight as it should be while at others, it does look more curved. I agree with you in regards to the comments about the Mono kit nose, I think that some people that complain about the shape are confusing the B nose with the D/F/G nose. In addition I've never heard or read anything about the shape of the nose being off until 1 review claimed it was off, so suddenly a kit that's been out since the mid-80's is horribly wrong yet no one mentioned it before? jwest21
I like the kit. I used the Monogram center pylon and bombs and it worked out fine. DEFINITELY buy the AMS resin cockpit and Royal Resin's wheels, though. They are fabulous

Ken I thought the "fix" on that one was a little odd. Another thing that has just come up recently on the Monogram kit is the anhedral of the wings. Is it supposed to be like that or not? Somebody over at Hyperscale suggested that it has too much anhedral. I've always thought it looked fine. I don't have a Thud anywhere close by to take a look and compare. Cheers! kellyF15
Cool, I really appreciate all the replies, I may try one for my 4th 105. I have One from the 333rd RK built, but it doesn't look that good. I have two in progress, one F and one D, the F will be for the RE decals, and the D will be for either RU or RM. So eventually I will be building a 4th for which ever set I dont use on the D. Obviously, my final goal is to have one from each squadron in the 355th. It will probably take me a couple more years though lol
