I just find this a very neat expression of both the art and hobby. Where did you get the Bleriot kit? I'd love to get my hands on one of those! Stew
  2. Sad to see, but there's a message in it as well. It was a life cut short by poor decisions. Phil lived hard, smoked like a dragon, and didn't take care of himself. In the end, it caught up to him. He left behind a thriving business, loyal friends, and a loving family. Hopefully the lesson is that we need to take care of ourselves better so we'll get to hang around longer than Phil did. He will be missed.
  3. Great shots of the Hawg. I've been infatuated with the A-10's brute looks and ability to put steel on target since a good buddy of mine served as a crew chief in the 23rd when they were at England AFB back in the 80's-90's. Nothing does what the Hawg does better...
  4. Excellent project and an inspiration for a BAE Jaguar diorama I want to do. Thanks for sharing this. Stew
  5. Beautiful Fury! I just picked up another one from a guy here on ARC. They are really nice kits overall, and a great value especially since the Hobby Boss kits came out. I really didn't notice the crackling until I was looking at the close ups. If the crackling of the Future bugs you, here's a a trick to try if you need/want to address it: It appears that maybe the crackling was there when the Future dried, but it only appeared after the panel wash was applied. If you want to get rid of it, maybe try a very light (and fine) sanding only in the area where the crackling is, being careful to av
  6. Welcome Rob. You've come back at a great time in the hobby. Not only are there plenty of new kits being released, but a lot of old favorites from the 70's and 80's are being re-released as well. There are a dizzying array of after-market details bits out there, which you will soon discover. However, the focus in the modeling community these days seems to be on getting back to the basics - refining the basic skills needed to produce nice clean models without fingerprints, glue and paint runs, and silvering decals. In short, have a seat, strap in, and hang on, cause you're gonna have FUN! Ste
  7. A "Clean" T-38 has got to be one of the most elegant looking birds ever to fly. I sincerely hope that AFV is going to release a T-38 in the future. I would love to do a Thunderbirds jet and a Randolph AFB bird. For those who have experience in the type, I do have a question: I see two different intake styles on these T-38's. What gives?
  8. A 1/32nd scale B-26 Marauder!?!??!?!?!? B) B) :P
  9. Yeah, I can see where that would be safer...well relatively speaking of course. When I was a kid, though, our "BBQ lighters" were a match and a twisted-up sheet of newspaper. Now there's this other story when mom comes outside to find me and my best friend standing over a red ant mound. Iv'e got a can of gasoline in my hand pouring it over the ant mound and he had a paper airplane in flames getting ready to torch it...or both of us. We got a chance to find out... Sorry Anthony. Didn't mean to hijack the thread. Just the idea of a pressurized flammable liquid combined with an open flame brin
  10. I am in search of a new flat coat to go over Future as well. I've been using Micro Flat since getting back into the hobby, and it just doesn't seem to get flat enough. I end up with sort of a satin sheen instead. What I'm really looking for is something that will give me a dead flat clear surface without that dreaded frosting effect. Would be nice to just run this thread on clear coats until we have all options on the table. Stew
  11. Just wrapped a great transaction with ARC'er "Tom G". Great communication, very reasonable terms, fast turn-around and shipping. Thanks Tom! Stew
  12. When I was a kid, someone showed me how to make a flame like that using a Bic lighter and a can of WD-40. Had a "blast" with it until mom saw me do it for the first time... :)

Kind of reminds me of those old classic air racing trophies of the 30's.
  14. Kudo's to you for building something purely for a kid's enjoyment! That's worth more than a million gold medals at any contest. - Stew
  15. Well, to my knowledge there are only three kits: Monogram/Revell, Hasegawa, and Hobby Boss. Now, I don't know what your budget is, or for that matter what your import situation is being in Brazil, but here in the US, the Hobby Boss and the Hasegawa run about the same price and are nearly a tie when it comes to detail and quality. Although the only Hasegawa kits I see out these days are special edition limited issue kits that end up costing more like $75 USD or so. the HobbyBoss kits run about $60-$65 USF. While Hasegawa has the edge in some circles, the HobbyBoss has the edge in others (notab
  16. If that twin is anything like the G-23 I have, it will be perfect. Those Zenoah's run nice and sweet once broken in. Need to find a new home for mine as well as the rest of my R/C stash...
  17. Gorgeous, work. I'm quite fonnd of the B-26. Keep your speed up in turns!
  18. Wow! That is a powerful new Herc! Her engines must have been designed by Chuck Norris... The props don't even have to turn. The pilot just points at the plane and says "Fly", and it does.
  19. Beautiful renditions. I honestly can't say that I had ever seen the cockpit before, so when I saw the steering wheel and the shift knob, I'm thinking "yeah right..." Lo and behold, it's spot on, so the fact that two options are available for both the drivable version and the studio version is a plus. Ditto about the copyright stuff. You can call it just about anything, but since it was the only movie in which one was used, my guess it's image and style is protected. Better to go the safe route. I'm sure Fine Molds did their homework with their 1/72nd scale series. Maybe get in touch with them
  20. When I get in a funk (usually in the middle of winter), I reach for a humorous project. Last year, it was a Lindberg 1/20th scale Flintstones "Flintmobile". This year, it's a Messer-schnitzel. I also have in stock a Mad Magazine Alfred E. Neuman figurine. Remember, it's a hobby AND a craft. If you don't balance both, it's easy to start taking both yourself and the hobby WAY too seriously and burnout is inevitable.
  21. This is one of the coolest "What-If" projects I have ever seen. If you ever enter this into a contest, you are going to give judges a headach just trying to figure out what it is! I'll be following this one. What markings are you going to use? Stew
  22. Thanks Mark. That's very good to know, as I haven't ever looked in a box to see how they are molded.
  23. Thanks Red Dog. You know, I had a guy told me once he could do a sheet of painting masks for me for $10. The "MARINES" text would benefit from that greatly, as then you wouldn't have to worry about paint demarkation lines. Just paint the camo, slap on the mask, and paint the opposite colors (The open part of the mask being the text). That might work better than decals for my purposes. Hmmm...
