  1. Man Jon,that was deep!!! and besides, the nomex miniskirts were always easier on the ALSE guys to fix compared to the Apache training bras and training wheels that we had to keep around for the -64 guys. Also, I seem to recall that the hawk was the testbed for the 701's the Apache uses. That tells me the Apache will always play 2nd fiddle to the Blackhawk. We were fielded first and flew first therefore we ARE!!! first.
  2. Jon,Jon The Blackhawk is the Apache's father!!!!
  3. WOOOOWWW!!! That stung! Jon,If the Blackhawk is a mini-van,then I guess your Apache is Ford Focus! Come on Jon,don't be a hater, come on and cross over to the good side of helicopters. The force will be with you!
  4. As I get older,my eyesight goes south, but that's looks like an OH-58A model because of the contoured windshield. If my memory serves me correctly,The Charlie models had the flat windshields. It looks like a contoured windshield to me!
  5. Hey! What about a Sky Soldiers UH-60 in 1/48 or 1/35 scale?
  6. Your Blackhawk is looking good so far!Keep up the goos work and keep showing WIP pics!
  7. I thought about going but now that I know I'm up against Jon and Floyd and the models these guys have turned out,I don't have a prayer in the world.
  8. SWEEEEEEETTT!!! I'll take two tickets for that ride for sure! That beats ANY! rollercoaster ride hands down.I hope you Cobra pilots know what your doing. Then again, all this looks like to me is a regular service equivalent of what Delta does on with MH-6's! None the less,TOTALLY COOL!!!
  9. The Dayton Airshow is July 19th and 20th this year.so far no big Aerobatic teams have signed up.(ie Blue Angels,Thunderbirds)! The Sky Soldiers HAVE!!! to be there.Turbine Surgeon, that's a BIG!!!! hint.
  10. THIS IS A THREAD THAT NEVER EEENNNDDDSSS!
  11. Never mine.Clicked on the link and found it.Can't wait to get em'.
  12. OOOPS! I guess I should have read this thread before I posted on the 25 year thread.I'm buying a set definitely. What's the best kit to use for a AH-1?(I still want a 1/35 scale bird though).
  13. Wow!!! Those are some great pics of all the Helos Brock! I'm drooling over all of those Sky Soldiers shots.Someone NEEEEEDS! to make a 1/35 or 1/32 scale AH-1 Sky Soldiers kit.it's just too colorful of a scheme not to make it.By the way Brock, are you guys coming to the Dayton Airshow this year?If so,I'll be there for sure!
  14. Hey Craig,How about posting those CV-22 pics so we can look at em'!
  15. I wouldn't do it unless you want to do some kitbashing. The Academy CH-53 is modeled after the Marine/Navy version which has a 7 rotor blade head and downturned tail rotor while the USAF version only has 6 blades and the tail is straight. At least I think I'm right but the Marine and Navy guys know more than I do about that bird.
  16. Here you go,hope this helps: Tandem rotor aircraft such as the CH-46 or CH-47 have counteracting torques between the two heads. They perform pedal turns as a function of opposite cyclic pitch between the two heads. For instance, in order to turn left, the forward head receives an input for left cyclic, but the rear head receives an input of right cyclic causing the the aircraft to turn about its center. These inputs are accomplished through a control mixer.
  17. Those have got to be the best pics I've ever seen of those port-a-potties.Absolutely awesome my friend!!!That chopper thrown in there is cool too!!! :P
  18. I guess I should have been a little more specific with the word "Modern".I was actually thinking of the Army's AH-1's(F,S,ECAS),Sorry about the confusion Randy.Believe me,I got to work on T&B on the Blackhawk. While doing a Track one day with myself and the MTP,I actually got the chance to sit in the right seat and hold steady the flight controls while he shot the Strobex against the reflectors.WOOOHOOO!!!It might not seem a big deal to you guys, but for a non Helo pilot who's dream it was to fly Army Helicopters,It was a BIG deal to me!!!
  19. Thanks for the info Floyd.I knew that track and balance were two different things,We did some T&B on the Blackhawk blades.I just didn't know about the grease pencil and 3 guys routine.Sounds kinda dangerous if you ask me!
  20. The reason why I asked the Tracking question is because I remember one day when I saw 3 guys near the back of a running Cobra.1 guy had a long pole with a grease pencil on the end while the 2 other guys were holding him as he inched the pencil closer to the blades.I heard they were tracking the tail blades. It looked just a LITTLE unsafe if you ask me but I didn't know if that was the way Cobra mechs did it.If so then maybe their's a need for a change or go to a Strobex.Just curious!!!
  21. Hey Jon,What's the most unusual loadout you've seen on modern Cobras? Also,What is the proper way to track and/or balance tail blades on a Cobra?Their's a reason I'm asking this!
  22. Outstanding Work Norbert!!! That Blackhawk will turn out absolutely stunning when it's done.Hope you remember to droop those blades a little bit,but I'm sure you will because everything else on it has been done to the letter. Can't wait to see it completely done!!! :)
  23. Ditto on the muzzles. We were always told to have the grunts point the muzzles down so that in the case of an accidental firing, the floor would take the hit and not any of the flight controls overhead including the main module. As far as the crew chief position, Usually they sit on the right side.I always sat on the right unless I flew as the gunner then The left was where I sat.Back then it was usually the CE's preference and most sat on the right anyway. So they just kept up the practice.Hope it helps!
  24. Thanks ALOT! guys, that worked. Its nice to know theirs guys out there who will help a forum detail challenged guy like me.One more quick question:How do I add a comment underneath the banner? Thanks again in advance!!!
