  1. Thanks for reaffirming my thoughts of never wanting to build those old Aotaki kits . May they continue to rest in peace . You did quite a good job on your . Cheers, Christian
  2. Hi Chuck ! So glad to see you posting anew . Cheers, Christian
  3. Thanks Steve . I have used the Cartograph decals before and they were good . Hopefully , between the newer Revell and the Sky decals , we'll be pretty close . Cheers, Christian
  4. Thanks. Good to know info. Cheers, Christian
  5. Thanks MIke Cheers, Christian
  6. Fear not. This weapon armed with the curved blade is an awesome tool ! Cheers, Christian
  7. Thanks Jonathan an Steve . A big catalog does not guarantee great decals . I still have a lot of the old ESCI because they printed a lot of different thing and Squadron had all these sales . They do however not represent great quality . Mainly , I was looking of something that will lay down good and does not seem to be printed on cardboard . It will not make me crazy if it's not 100 % accurate . There's a lot of birds's who's picture was not saved to film but I would lie to stay in the ballpark . I'm debating on what markings I want my Halifax to reflect . Friday
  8. Have any of you used Sky decals . Are they OK ? Regards, Christian
  9. I find that Iwata is cheapest on line but it takes some patience and hunting . The best prices have come from Japan where they are made . Parts here in the US. are relatively easy to find. Cheers, Christian
  10. Reading up on this compressor. It is quoted @ 55 DBA . Conversation at home is 50 DBA and 55 DBA in a restaurant. Cheers, Christian
  11. I agree . You will be missed . Prayers for the Bush family . Christian
  12. Thanks that makes good sense . I also enjoy the fact that you can sort of roll the cuts with a sharp curved blade rather than trying to pull it . I use both depending on the occasion . Cheers, Christian
  13. Just taking a second look at what you just said about not pulling the knife blade means you need something like a scalpel rather than a # 11 blade. Cheers, Christian
  14. I know , it sounds like a caveman could do it but for the life of me I have never succeeded in getting it to lay down right all the way around. Can't remember if it was over plastic or Future . I have an entire roll, so it's not like I don't have anymore . Obviously missing something simple . Thanks, I'll have to try again. Cheers, Christian
  15. I have run across this on a 1/72 scale Westland Whirlwind as I was taking the final pictures . The Special Hobby plastic is soft but I could not find any other problems . Unfortunately for this build, it was too late. Cheers, Christian
  16. For whatever reason, I have never managed to get that to work for me .
  17. As far as I understood it from the people that were in the F-16 program . The airplane was such a success from early on, was because there were a lot of crew chiefs involved in the process of keeping a bird flying . Cheers, Christian
  18. I have also found the Olfa Hobby knife to be a very fine cutting blade and the curve of the blade seems well suited for what I do.
  19. Thanks Roberto . It seems I have tried that previously . Can't remember why I stopped . Will look for the 3M tape. If that does not turn up, I'll retry the bare metal foil . Cheers, Christian
  20. If you spray Acrylics , it can be cleaned up with Windex ( containing ammonia ) Dunk it if you can , otherwise it can be done with a square tip brush . Cheers, Christian
  21. Looking very nice for a 1/72 scale build . Is the paint job correct on your build ? I would like to build one myself, so maybe I can use yours as example of what it should look like . Cheers, Christian
  22. I noticed that earlier and thought it would be worth a try. After looking for a source I found that Sprue Brother carried this brand . Alas, they do not appear to cater to the 1/72 crowd. Need to do some more searching. Cheers, Christian
  23. Hi Pierre . Wow, a lot of different idea on painting canopies have been posted .

I particularly find your idea about making circles for the corners . Too simple to be obvious but a great idea. Now I need to see if I can make it work with something as small as 1/72.

Even Tamiya tape is difficult to cut in such a small size, simply because there's not enough adhesion to keep it from wandering . Even with the sharpest of blades .

I once had some sort of Teflon type tape that was used in aircraft pressurization systems and that stuff was perfect , being partially opaque and it cut quite readily .  Unfortunately  , it's only a pleasant memory .

Basically, , I could have done a 1/72 scale Zero with two pieces of tape and the edge leakage was zero . Sure do miss it.

    Cheers, Christian

Hi Chris, yes the Tamiya tape tends to creep in such small pieces. I tend to use the opaque white tape from 3M to punch out small circles in those cases. You should be able to get that in any stationery shop.

      Happy modeling,

Hey Pierre .  Just found  your post.

Looking for the 3M tape now .

Searching on line it seems to be described  in more than one description including duck tape which I find hard to swallow .

Can you give a place to search or perhaps a more thorough description ?  I would hate to order on line and get the wrong item.

      Thank you , Christian

      Hi Chris,

I see it is also called 3M SCOTCH Magic tape. Comes in a green box. It also lends itself well to cover canopies and cut along the frames if you're inclined to do that. I don't trust myself with that, lol.
