  1. i would say go for the black knights kit! ive had to buy a lantirn, laser guided bomb set plus the teknics cockpit set and airframe set that you would have to buy anyway and its worked out nearly as expensive as if i had bought the black knights kit!!!
  2. i built two 1/48 tomcatter birds (on my sig) a while back using the yellowhammer sheet with 100 and 105 changed 105 to 104 with some spare decals and bought blackbox conversion set and hasegawa laser guided bombs weapon set. I did both birds armed with one gbu-12 and a JDAM although 2 gbu-12 was just as common. i did put on phoenix missiles cos apparently first few missions most tomcats did carry them only when no iraqi air force appeared were they not carried and then sidewinders were still carried. the osprey book oif tomcat units is a great reference!! also if u are gonna do black tailed
  3. i did a google search for operation granby tornados on google and checked out image results: http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...cial_s%26sa%3DN also check out this you can find some photos of nose art for specific aircraft http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...cial_s%26sa%3DN
  4. ive noticed these after getting the daco book since im building a 1/32 tamiya tomcat and its clearly visible in these pics too: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1073...RFP&photo_nr=10 http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1056...RFP&photo_nr=31 my question is what is its purpose and has it always been on F14D's?
  5. i recently used some 1/32 LGB's from Flightpath and they do 1/48 Raf/royal navy weapons sets. Heres the link: http://www.djparkins.clara.net/fltpath/fp4...postwar_raf.htm just scroll down till you get to weapons sets.
  6. dont know but this might help: http://military.sakura.ne.jp/aircraft/photo2/2_a-7.jpg
  7. man those what if hornets just dont look right! looks terrible thanks to the glow stripe through the middle of the tail markings.
  8. hmmmm might well be carrying zuni rocket pods i guess??
  9. my suggestion would be to use brown or grey weathering chalks/powders to represent dust and sand as you see appropriate.
  10. found this via google search for 111 squadron black arrows. http://www.hunty.com.au/Reborn/images/rafblackarrowspic2.jpg
  11. i was just about to say was pretty sure XH558 was the one being restored! its at bruntingthorpe which has the lightnings and bucs and many other cool planes that do fast taxi runs. Also interestingly enough if any1 is thinking of doing a model airfix give you XH558 decals.
  12. Ive getting a tamiya tomcat and want to make it to a D but the price hannants charge for the update set is too much. Any 1 know of a website could where i could get them cheaper considering i live in the UK? thanks for any replies!
  13. hasegawa a-4s but u might wanna take a few cos they go to together well and aint that big! also try hasegawa phantom or a tomcat!!!!
  14. from what ive read so do vf-32 swordsmen as they were the other squadron who had used felix as their mascot or whatever. Anyway they obviously lost the right to use it and became the swordsmen.
  15. What about Phoenix?? since this thing has been nearly cancelled so many times yet still emerged!
  16. try this site shows a pic of live GBU 10 http://www.danshistory.com/lgb.shtml#gbu10
  17. yep as usual murphs right i know that the tomcat that ppl usually hold up to be "so much better than the Super hornet" (including me sometimes) was limited to subsonic speeds when carrying 4 bombs for precisely what murph said. i think going supersonic would rip of rear bombs from what ive heard. However i would say that the range of the SH is more of a problem, not speed! Having read about tomcats during OIF they did most of the 'deep strike missions' cos hornets couldnt reach them! Again all this could be propaganda im just repeating what ive heard.
  18. try airliners.net and do a search for tomcat! also try http://www.anft.net/f-14/ and http://www.tomcat-sunset.org/ and if you cant find pics then you havent looked through the sites hard enough!!
  19. btw how come 41 have tornados and harriers?? im guessing one was a temp replacement while jags are away and one is the permanent replacement???
  20. tonka is a just a abbreviation people use for tornado or at least thats my understanding of it! to clear things up heres some photos from airliners.net dated 2006 showing tornado GR4's in the dark sea grey/camo grey. Also i should point out that while nose colours vary from black to camo grey as mentioned the camo grey nose started on GR4As but i becoming more common Both these pics are interesting since the first wears dual markings a reserve squadron shown by the roman numerals on the tail XV while lightning flash marks the aircraft as 617 dambusters squadron. The second pic has a torn
  21. well im awaiting mine from hannants who received thousands of orders so who knows when mine will turn up!!! i did order mine early last year as soon as was it announced on this website though..............
  22. I would like to see Great Britain have them....and Germany and a few others. That way, the NATO presence would be confirmed and very ominous. yeah i would like to see the RAF get some too but if you guys can barely afford them (being the only superpower) how do you expect us brits to afford them?????
  23. i can think of several aircraft that have had crashes accidents during testing and must say im not that surprised. im sure everyones seen footage of early harriers going down pilots ejecting etc. When a technology is relatively new there are going to be problems or things nobody thought of. Flying is a risky business and unfortunately these things happen.
  24. sorry i didnt give any sites just most modelling websites do stock weathering chalks. i know www.hannants.co.uk do weathering pigments and powders however its UK based so if u are from another country you will be better find a website of a company based in your country!!!
  25. my advice would be try online modelling stores! i managed to pick up a weathering chalks set which had various colours in for a not too expensive price. that is when u need more!!!!!
