  1. ....I just had a shuddering thought.... What if one were to build a pristine Spitfire, near perfect in every way, and.....paints it PRU Pink. And the judges dont know (I know this is a stretch) that there is such a thing, and down grade for an inappropriate color choice... ...just thinking through my fingers
  2. This thread has been really interesting for me on several fronts. A. my prior post with the judging criteria and hearing the thoughts and theories of others regarding it has been very informative. B. I VERY RARELY build a model regardless of type as it looks on the box cover (as a matter of fact, i can honestly say I may have NEVER built one that way). So my biggest concern was how would my models with my what-if/fictional paint schemes or modifications fair in a modeling contest. Whether it be a P-51 with a custom paint scheme and decals or a car that I have hacked/cut scratch built to loo
  3. OK, so maybe this info has been posted here before...if not, IMHO this info and link deserves its own spot somewhere here. This thread got me thinking and doing some research regarding IPMS and its (they dont call it a "standard", standard) "Modeling Basics" judging criteria. They also focus on "consistency" in the build. Well its all there in the link I will provide (if there is a better link, please somebody post it up). Anyway, boy I wish I wouldve read this 9 months ago, as per the criteria my models are fairly poor IMO. Dont get me wrong, I am still happy with them, but there are a f
  4. Hahaha, I was just going through a box of old models and bits, and my painted, half built Airwolf was in there, from when the show was still on tv....LOL
  5. I truly hope, if I choose to participate, that it will not sour me. I spend plenty of time already on my builds imo but if there are a few things I can gain that dont take a bunch of time, just maybe a bit of effort, and certainly not a bunch of money, then I see it as possibly a positive experience. As far as the "popularity contest" that unfortunately is the nature of most anything competitive. I have seen it all my life whether it was Pinewood Derby in Scouts, Little League Baseball, or Auto Racing as a teenager or adult. There are always those types of people, you just have to determin
  6. ......just the mere thought of this concept made my eyes roll to the back of my head, I got tunnel vision, and I started to breath heavy and started moaning.....I think I should call a doctor......Dr. Ruth maybe???? *falls over in a heap..legs quivering*
  7. This continues to be an amazingly interesting and informative thread guys. *tips hat*
  8. #8. 1/48 Monogram. OOB build except my paint scheme and decals. Also made the aluminum display stand. Gift for my son-in-law. #9. 1/32 Revell P-51B. War torn OD Green fictional B model. A bit of distressing and smoke trails, and hand lettered "BABY JEAN" Thanks again, I have had a blast building these since last October. Builds #3 and #5 are
  9. OK, so I figured I had better do this before I blow it and forget. So here it goes, a bit of a description, and a pair of pictures all in a couple of threads (since there is a photo limit), hope that does the trick. Build links are in my signature line. Thanks for the GB and all the support guys!!!! #1. 1/32 Hasegawa. Modified canopy, wings and scoopectomy. Scratch built Reno Home Pylon, and all decals were printed by me. #2. 1/24 Airfix. 16. Really really interesting topic and responses so far. Being the inherently competitive person that I am (I have driven racecars in the past), I have considered entering some of my builds in a contest being held in Sept of this year. But I am also a realistic person, so I know that what I build pales in comparison to many of the builds I see here. And certainly my choice of kits to build may affect the competitiveness of my models eg: I love to build those old Revell 1/32 P-51 kits and I have to imagine the wouldnt stand a chance if one of the new Tamiya P-51s were in the same class. I have
  17. Nobody??? Ok, so our friendly search engine that starts with a G and rhymes with noogle says there was an actual bunny in Japan that could balance items on its head...a flap-jack being one of the items. Then to complicate matters there was a photograph of the "pancake bunny" with the caption "I have no idea what you are talking about.....so here's a bunny with a pancake on its head", which has led the bunny to become the patron saint of silence..... my life is now complete.....
  18. How come I cant stop staring at this???? It looks incredibly familiar to me, but just cant put my finger on them.....
