17 years ago I emailed Flankerman and asked if he had any pictures of the 1988 Su-27M/Su-35 prototype that was later left at Monino. He very kindly got back to me with a goldmine. The reference photos he sent me were a game changer as he had discovered the disruptive scheme was mirrored underneath and had a bundle of photos to illustrate it. I loved the Ferris like camouflage but also the new Su-27M nose profile with the traditional cropped fins as later Su-27Ms had the squared tips. I did all the hard work expected of an Academy and Sol conversion way back then and put it away; i

Hi all! Well, it's that time again... Another finished project! This time it is the 1/48 Hobby Boss Su-30MKM Flanker-H conversion from the base Su-30MKK kit using the Naza Model Art MKM conversion. The build WIP thread can be viewed here: The Su-30MKM is the Malaysia specific variant of the Su-30, based off of the Indian Su-30MKI. It has canards and thrust vectoring exhaust in common with that aircraft, however there are many things that make the MKM unique among Flankers. It utilizes western avionics from France and South Africa, and many feature not seen on

Hey everyone! Well, I haven't done an in-progress thread in awhile, but since this project is my first real conversion (and one of my favorite aircraft), I thought I would do one for this... Besides, I may need some support and may have some questions along the way. 🙂 So the base kit for this is the Hobby Boss Su-30MKK, and I will be using the Naza Model Art Su-30MKM conversion set. I also have Fishbone decals for this aircraft. I will also be using a L'Arsenal Aero Damocles pod, AMUR Reaver Thrust Vectoring Exhausts, Master Model Pitot, and Neomega seats.

Hi all! I would like to share one of my latest completed projects, the 1/48 Academy U-2S Dragon Lady. I actually finished this one about a month or so ago. This kit consists of parts from the old Hawk molds (from well before I was even born!) with updated parts to make a modern Sierra. So it goes without saying that this kit contains raised panel lines. So I decided to go ahead and rescribe all of the panel lines, which I have never done before. Let me just say, I am not so sure I will ever do this again! I really HATE doing it, and I am pretty much terrible at it. I found t

Good evening everyone! I recently acquired a Mach 2 kit, part of their Space Conquest Series, and thought I'd show how it's going together, considering I haven't seen any posted about here.. This is my first missile that isn't actually a space rocket, but considering its pedigree as the United States' first launch vehicle for Astronauts, I think it's a pretty important example to have. Plus, my interest and studies focus heavily on the beginning of the Space Race and Wernher von Braun & Co. I especially liked that the box featured not only an image of the missile during flight, but inserte

Dear all, I am considering getting the Trumpeter 1/48 kit. Don´t know yet if it will be a C or D. I know, there is an issue with the intake, which is addressed by some AM companies. How good is the kit actually? Is it a) get a new intake, the rest is fine b) it has some issues (please tell me which) but builds into an accurate replica when corrected. c) get it only if you really need a 1/48 F-100 with recessed panel lines, otherwise go Monogram. There is a corrected tail fin for the C model and corrected 335gal drop tank noses. What ar

Hello ,this is my build last summer. I used S4804 (F-15C MSIP II flown by Jeff Hwang) but instead replaced its decals with Afterburners' 'Shogun Eagles'. Weapons came from difference sources( AIM-120Cs from Hasegawa's air-to-air weapon set, Sidewinders were from Tamiya's F-16C kit)

This Hawk comes from Chinese domestic factory Trumpeter. The model was bulit almost straight out of box, except for modifications on wings. I removed the small wing fences that were intended for model Hawk 51, Hawk 60, Hawk 65 and Hawk 67, and added stall strips on the leading edge of wings. The model was painted with white and yellow primers, then painted with Super Italian Red. All paints used were from Gunze. Decals are thin and soft. Several layers of Gunze GX100 clear coats were applied before polishing and applying decals. A few layers of Gunze GX100 clear coats were applied over t

Hi all! I would like to share my latest completed project, the 1/48 Great Wall Hobby F-15C from the MSIP II ANG boxing. I decided to build it in the fantastic splinter camo markings of the 65th AGRS circa 2013. The camo was done without a mask, using Tamiya tape and just kinda eyeballing it. I started by painting the gray, then masking and painting either the white or blue areas one at a time. Some areas were easier to paint the white over the blue, and others the blue over the white. I used some aftermarket on this one, including a Quickboost seat, Meng CATM Aim-9M

Right then. So after a long time of not touching any kit with a purpose of starting AND finishing it, plus watching the two awesome Monogram F-14A builds by john53 and picknpluck, I'm going to start knocking this one out. What we have here is the 'Hunt For Red October' edition of Monogram's 1/48 F-14A Tomcat. Livery will be done in VF-211 colors for a line jet that flew on the 1997 cruise to participate in Operation Southern Watch over the skies of Iraq. This aircraft in particular is provided by FCM Decals. So far for this build I have the decals, picked up the

I have two Monogram 1/48 AV-8B’s in the stash and as I am preparing to work on one of them I was wondering if it’s possible to make the other into a GR. 5 as they look very similar. Now I know the nose radome is different (which I have no clue how to rectify), there’s one more set of pylons compared to the AV-8B, and the instrument panel is different (was thinking the Airwaves PE could help with that) thatall need to be changed. Is there anything else that I missed? Is it even possible? I don’t have the budget to drop for another Hasegawa Harrier so I thought I

Looking for an accurate aftermarket copy of the Stencil SEU-3/A ejection seat that was used by the USMC in the AV-8A's for my Monogram kit. I am fully aware there are several Stencel S-III-S (SJU-4) made in 1/48 and some manufacturers even advertise these as for the -A models however that is incorrect. Anyone have any ideas or should I just tinker with improving the kit seat?
