desmojen
I have that kit in the stashdrobe - must remember to fit nose weight when I build it, thanks for the tip Andy! :D Jen.
Drifterdon
Awesome build Andy! You got her "Just Right"...
Ranger74
The flag is probably situated so that it appears to wave as the plane goes forward. Same as the US Army has done with the flag on the right shoulder of our field uniforms.
erwin
man, with "American" in your name, you'd think that you would care more about getting the flag facing the correct way than having the flags be symmetrical! I see this differently ! The plane is going forward. So,the nose acts as the flagpost. With means the stars are closest to the pole. This isn't " wrong " to me. It's infact very logical as Dr Spock would say.
Bennygmanuk
It's infact very logical as Dr Spock would say. Anorak on: Hey Erwin, Actually DR Spock would probably say something like 'children are individuals in their own right, and by showing them love and affection, parenting can be rewarding and fun' MR Spock on the other hand may well respond as you say :D Anorak off; Andy that's a great build. Do the BOAC decals look usable as that's probably the one I'd go for? Steve PS love the 'Britcat' logo, is that your own idea or something official?
Platypus
The flag is probably situated so that it appears to wave as the plane goes forward. Same as the US Army has done with the flag on the right shoulder of our field uniforms. Should always be "Stars in the wind" or "Stars to the heart".
Andy Mullen
Andy that's a great build. Do the BOAC decals look usable as that's probably the one I'd go for?Steve PS love the 'Britcat' logo, is that your own idea or something official? The sheet suffers from the typical Airfix registration problem, and so, although the main markings look OK, the Union Jack sort of looks naff. Left over for BAOC scheme IIRC The BritCat was an actual patch given to one of the lucky RAF exchange pilots. The original shows Tom with a pint of beer in his hand. Bennygmanuk
Cheers mate, and happy birthday. Steve.
jrallman
Well, from US Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, The Flag, Section 7, Subsection i - "When displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left. When displayed in a window, the flag should be displayed in the same way, with the union or blue field to the left of the observer in the street." Maybe since it is a painting of the flag and not an actual flag, the rule is different, but I always understood the rule to mean union to the top left, hence the comment that the flat on the starboard side of the fuse is backwards. Brews
That's one lovely build. Congratulations.
miduppergunner
Yes - I really do like that - did you do much scribing as it looks just right and I would be a bit surprised if that is how it is presented in the box! That model would look perfect on top of the TV, or similar. Congrats on the build and the speed. David.
Andy Mullen
Thanks again for the compliments David, what you see is as it came, no rescribing. The panel lines are mostly raised and I lost a few during assembly and clean up, but I didn't feel I could do a rescribe justice, so I left it as is.
miduppergunner
Well - it looks so good - I think Doc should award you a special prize from his own resources because you produce such a splendid model so quickly - all your own work - no AM bits nor cribbing from others on the ARC site! David.
Ranger74
Now to really add to the flag controversy and for a different finish to a Boeing CLipper, build one in Navy camouflage. I saw pictures of a Clipper in Navy blue over grey and the only markings were four US flags. There were the usual two at the bow and two more mounted on the center tail with the blue field towards the front of the aircraft. :)
