BAM'n'IVM
http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123044678&page=1 I had heard nothing about the MQ-9 Reaper until this article on the Air Force website. The article says it can carry 1 1/2 tons of ordnance - which includes LGBs. Interesting stuff.
Iron Eagle
Thanks for the link! I kinda like how it looks - maybe we can have a kit... and some decals soon! I wonder if ATKS just plainly stands for "attack squadron". If so then that's pretty boring. I was trying to come up with something like AuTonomous Killer(?) Squadron. Chappie
That is one bad-*** looking Predator! I have seen several shots of this version. Very cool. Isn't it powered by a P&W PT6? Chappie

ChernayaAkula
Very cool! Thanks, BAM'n'IVM for linking! "Predator" and "Reaper" - now THOSE are names! Has anybody got a model of these planes? EDIT: Just found on WIKIPEDIA An MQ-9 with two 1,000 pound (450 kilogram) external fuel tanks and a thousand pounds of munitions has an endurance of 42 hours. Fully loaded with munitions, the Reaper has an endurance of 14 hours.[...] The Air Force believes that the Predator B will give the service an enhanced "deadly persistence" capability, with the UAV hanging over a combat area night and day, waiting for a target to present itself. Now that's what I call impressive. "Deadly persistence" - how cool is that? Talk about the sensor-to-shooter gap continually shrinking. Trigger
Someone looked at the Predator and said "It doesn't work for me. I coulda used more cowbell." And thus the Reaper was born.
Mark S.
There is a 1/72 Predator B model by Unicraft Models but it's of the prototype. Would need a lot of modification to look like the operational one. Mark
BAM'n'IVM
Are the Reaper and the Predator B the same animal? They certainly look about the same, but does anyone know for sure?
Mark S.
BAM'n'IVM From what I can tell and based on a magazine article the fuselage is different. The fuselage is deeper on the Reaper then on the Predator B. Mark
Iron Eagle
Mark, thanks for the info! I was not aware of that. I think with the UCAVs becoming more and more common, Revell (I'm hoping) or others will surely not miss out on this opportunity. Yang

What were they thinking of.......... ? Nah. There are better names for the F-35 out there, but I don't think Reaper's one of 'em. It doesn't need a name that people are advised not to fear in a song.
