JP Vieira
The Mig-29, as with other Soviet aircraft, started its “career†in the west as artist impressions. Here are 3 of those, of the early 80’s a time when (obviously) not much was know about this aircraft. Matt Roberts
What do you get when you combine a Flaggon, a Flogger a fifth of Vodka and some accordion music The answer....
ChernayaAkula
Actually, I think the tail end is rather Foxhound-ish. And if you look at the "impression" from above, it really looks like a Foxhound, with the possible exception of the intakes.
thetoe17
And if you look at the "impression" from above, it really looks like a Foxhound I was going to say the same thing, from above the wings, tail section, and even the nose a little bit, looks like a MiG-31. From the side it looks a little like a Flogger. Wonder when this drawing was made? Pretty entertaining. I remember as a kid seeing ":artist's impression" drawings of the Ka-50 Hokum, which are also hilarious compared to how the real thing turned out.

airrex
I still have that Salamander book and another one with "impressions" of Soviet hardware. Fun stuff looking back now.
Aggressor Supporter
I still have that Salamander book and another one with "impressions" of Soviet hardware. Fun stuff looking back now. I agree. I also remember reading the old Salamander titles and the speculation on the Flanker and Fulcrum look back then. Funny.

ChernayaAkula
That's one heck of a panel line down the middle there. Gald Monogram didn't kit that. Would'a been a nightmare and the debates over filling it or not. ( I know, it's a the page break in a book) Nah, it isn't! After the take-down rifle, here's the take-down fighter! Makes it all that much easier to transport and park in confined places!

Zmey Smirnoff
Looks like the site is down. Too bad. I only saved PAK FA impressions.
JP Vieira
Could you provide us with some of those impressions (PAK-FA)?
Zmey Smirnoff
Sure Important disclaimer - None of these artist impressions are official. All of them are pure conjecture. True appearance of PAK FA (I-21) has not been released yet. Edited October 16, 2007 by Zmey Smirnoff
JP Vieira
Thank you. I wonder how much of these artist impression will be "featgured" in the actual plane...? Does anyone know any date for the release of any oficial image of PAK-FA? Well, the verbal portrait of PAK FA is relatively clear. - 2 TVC supercruise engines - Internal weapon bay - Stealth requires trapezoid-shaped wings/tailfins - S-shaped intakes - No exterior pylons - Overall size same or slightly bigger than Su-27. I really dont think there will be an "official release of the image". The first flight is scheduled for the end of 2008, but I believe it when I see it. Most likely we'll see it in the air around 2010-2012. And thats when the official unveiling of the plane itself will most likely happen. Z
