Scalephantomphixer
The tail panelling is completed. I can now devote my time to the center-wing. Lots of scratch-building ahead: redo the wheel wells, build the electrical connectors to the motors, etc.

Scalephantomphixer
Back to some basic scratch-building (I missed the smell of plastic...) Drilling the axes into True Scale bulged wheels The center wing section, with the MLG. I re-did the rear strut-supporting bulkheads I scratch-built the forward bulkhead (firewall?). Same, top view. Another top view
Scalephantomphixer
Detailing the wheel.... I could not find a washer with the right size, so I built my own. I will cast it 4 times.

Barneydhc82
Pierre: Your machining detail is beautiful but I hope you will take some of the bulge out of those tires. The only DC-3 in my photos with tires that flat is a derelict that has not moved in many years. True Details never has gotten those bulges looking right. AnthonyWan
Does that suspension really work? Looks like if you plopped it down on the table...the struts would spring back :P Anthony

Scalephantomphixer
More photos of the MLG building process. 1. The workbench with some tools 2. The Proxxon, with a diamond cutting disc, to cut the brass tubes and rods (I never got to cut them properly with a regular saw..) 3. Cutting a tube 4. Soldering the axes on the strut 5. Et voilà! 6. Shortening the axis.

Scalephantomphixer
Casting the wheel flanges The result, from left to right: demolded, rough cut, clean-up, original Replacing the shock absorbers with brass tubes The result Closer NB. I removed some of the bulge of the tire. Thanks Barney
Barneydhc82
Looking good Pierre. Now how are you going to connect the tiny electric motors to the power source???? With the solid resin tires you might have difficulty running the connections through that way but if you are doing a diorama...and why not!...a grounding wire to the underside of the wing centre section or an external power cart would work. Scalephantomphixer
A very helpful photo indeed Barney I intend to run the power through the brake hydraulic lines, though the axis, then through the center of the wheel down into the dio base. Here are a few more tire photos Painted. Model Master "Rubber" enamel Closer
Barneydhc82
If you need any detail photos, I have access to a 1/1 scale DC-3 parked at Langley...would have no problem getting whatever you need. I've also run the (+) lead up through the tires using telescoping brass tube with a ground wire returning to the power supply. After seeing JohnReid's incredible diorama thread, I've decided to try my hand at my first diorama. Except fot the electrical goodies, I'm building the -3 OOB and concerntrating on getting a good high polish finish for my VIP bird. Barney
