I'd heard that Kopro was going to release a new-mold 1/72 MiG-23BN sometime soon, and that it would be a whole lot better than the crude Cold War-era KP stuff I remember from when I was a kid. Any word on when we may see this kit available?

In other news, would this be the best way to go about modelling a BN, do you think?

I sent them an e-mail a few months ago asking about the MiG-23BN in 1/72 and the possible re-release of the 1/48 Su-25/UBK but never got a reply...............

Maybe one of our Czech members can send them an e-mail in their mother tongue?

Yes, they are 'working on it'

The problem is the pace.

The company is now focused on different kind of business (they do mainly home appliances, if I am not mistaken).

They use the tools to produce modelling stuff only when their main business is slower from time to time.

They are re-releasing their old modelling stuff from time to time to get some easy cash.

But development of new moulds is completely different business (labour intensive, time intensive) - so 1/72 MiG-23BN project is lowest priority for the company - in fact employees do work on the MiG-23 project in their spare time (and they are working on this for several yeras already, and project seems to be far from being finished given the priority the project has in company's business plan).

It could take years before their MiG-23 is released.

This is what they have so far (I agree, quality looks very fine):

...but personally, I think you will see 1/72 or 1/48 MiG-23 from Trumpeter sooner. It is sad, but it is how it is

With a quick glance the wings and their panel lines look pretty much perfect! Didn't do any actual comparing, but the details look like they are straight from the drawings.

I really do hope they got this some day together.

Thanks Jan. It's a pity it will not be out soon. I know I would buy more than a few for the stash, and I think many others on this forum would do the same. Now let's hope the home appliances market in the Czech Republic will be a lot slower than usual in the coming months so we'll be building 1/72 Kopro MiG-23BNs this winter! :crying2:

And if somebody from the company might be reading this: I would welcome a re-release of the 1/48 Su-25K and UBK too!

If you want to talk to KOPRO directly, go here:

http://www.ipmsnymburk.com/forum/viewtema....idp=&idc=41

The discussion thread is in Czech, but guys from KOPRO will understand if you write something in English.

...but..I doubt you will make them release Mig-23 before this Christmas :taunt:

..the problem with this is that guys from KOPRO who work on MiG-23 are nice and enthusiastic, and are happy to answer most of the questions... but what counts in the end is the main business focus of the company, and how KOPRO management allocate time of guys who work on MiG-23

...welcome to capitalism mate :)

Well, I'll be saving my Albatros "Caribbean Falcons" Cuban MiG-23BN decals for that Kopro kit for sure! As soon as they deliver it, I'll buy one! Those molds look great - years ahead of the Cold War-era KP kits I remember. Come on... take a break from building refrigerators and give us something useful!

As an aside, if one really likes Kopro model kits, does that mean that one has Koprophilia?

 ;)

I am a koprophile:

1) the kits were often the most accurate kits when they were released

2) the kits were cheap (in Western Europe at least...)

3) the detailing was great at the time: beautiful surface detailing (raised but petite rivets), detailed wheel wells and sometimes cockpit detailing (I'm thinking about the Avia S-199). It's clear to me that the guys who did the toolings loved their job and the planes they wanted to depict

4) informative instruction sheet

5) sturdy packaging with wonderful matchbox quality cardboard

Czech modelers who lived in communist Czechoslovakia may not think the same way of course...

Wouldn't it be nice to make a Kopro groupbuild ?

What! Academy has stopped making the Mig-23 kits? Then I'd better hurry and grab a few of those! Btw, how do you feel about the Academy Mig-27? Worth getting it? Looking at the box pics at my local hobby shop, the cockpit area/fuselage somehow seems too high to me.

TIA.

I've got several of the Academy MiG-23's and 27's, a Hasegawa 27, a Heller 23 and several of the Zvezda/Italeri 23's and 27's.

The Academy kit is not bad, and is probably the easiest way to make an attempt at t 23BN. The fit is decent. It is merely a reverse engineered Hasegawa kit with recessed panel lines instead of raised.

Without a lot of work, you'd be hard pressed to get an accurate 23/27 out of the 1/72 kits that are available currently. The Zvezda kits look to be the most accurate, but still have errors.

Just a short notice: KOPRO ceased the plastic model kits business and sold all molds and accompanying tools to a private company. At this time the future of any KOPRO models is just not visible.

Let's see in the following months.

This is the news as published on a Czech local modeling site.

I have emailed the shop now. Waiting for answer.

BTW: KP/Kopro doesnt seem dead....At least it looks like it is somekind of Zombie. Because in the Model Airplane International (2008 july issue 36) there is a KP kit listed in "new" section. It is a twin pack La-5 in 1/72. Rebox. But still! It looks like KP is moving...
