Berkut
Hi, am 16 years old boy from Norway. (i live in Norway, but I am from Russia.) Currently I am building Zvezda Tu 160 (1/144) But one of my decals broke, could someone help me out? More info here: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=116784 Here are some photos of my model: Here is my problem: I have not weathered the plane yet, because I am not finish with decals. This is my 5 model. Any comments? PS: More here: http://www.ipmsnorge.org/forum/index.php?topic=2414.0 Edited April 3, 2007 by Berkut
AnthonyWan
Well what a coincidence, I am 16 too You definitely did a great job on the Tu-160 , let me take a look at that link you have, and i'll see if i can help EDIT: Your problem should not be very hard to fix if you have the section of decal that is ripped from the flag. If you do, soak it in water, and then apply a nice puddle of water to the decal already there, you should be able to align the broken-off section without much difficulty. After this, gently use a soft paper towel to soak up any excess water, then apply a decal setting solution of your choice (I recommend Microscale Micro Sol) and you should be fine. If there is small mismatch, wait until decal is completely dry, then use a small brush and a bit of paint to touch up. No, that will not work... It is because that decal bit is on Tamya tape... My plan B is to paint whole thing. Edited April 3, 2007 by Berkut

Just after you apply the clear coat over the decals, use some really low tack tape (like tamiya or possibly 'drafting tape') to mask. Then spray. You should be able to get a nice replacement. Yes, I could also do that. But I think it will look better if I spray whole thing. PS: I forgot to mention something. As you can see, plane have no wheels. My model will be "in flight". gambit3131
Cool, I was thinking that it is only people here that is older 50 years... Hey.. I'm only 39. :) Laugh. I may grow old, but I'll never grow up. Good job on the model and hope you can fix the decal situation. Let us know how it turns out.

You can also use 3M Post-It notes as mask. It's very low tack and should work nicely. I hope this helps. Terry
Backfire
Very nice work on your Tu-160, Berkut! I built this same kit last year, as part of the Heavies Group Build, and I really enjoyed it. I built the "Ilya Muromets" version also, so I don't have the decals to spare Link to Build... The in-flight version you are doing will look really sharp. One question, did you trim off the white portion of the decals on the tail? Keep up the great work! Keith

Very very nice model! :) Yes I did cut the white section away. That white section was actully wellow. I tried that "sun light" thing, it did not work. So I cutted it away. This is where my model will stand on: Edited April 4, 2007 by Berkut

Both my sons are into Warhammer 40K and Fantasy, not planes which is more the pity. I see the issue with the broken decal. Instead of removing the whole decal and repainting the whole thing, overcoat the decal in clear gloss or your equivalent of Johnsons Future. Let thoroughly dry and then mask the missing section with Tamiya tape and paint the stripes. You should be able to match the red easily enough. :) MikeJ

illithid00
Hi, am 16 years old boy from Norway. (i live in Norway, but I am from Russia.) I'm 17. And I thought that I was the only one younger than 20 on these forums. :) Great looking Tu-160 by the way!
Big Kev
It's encouraging to read on this thread that there are more younger modellers about than some pundits would have us believe. I too thought that there'd be no one under 30 hanging about here (nearly 41 myself), but boy am I glad to be wrong on that one. Glad you solved your decal problem too Berkut. Lock n' Load
Hey there! I'm also 16 (We should make a groupbuild for youngsters :D I'm building my 30th+ model.. F-18E (and still waiting for my AfterMarket Decal set to come from the U.S XD) You problem seems to be easy to fix! It has happened to me too, it gets a bit difficult when you have the colors, but not the correct tone, you can always use your good friends Black and White to make a closer match. I like the model overall! Looks very clean! Good luck with your decal problem!

Berkut
<_< Just think, in 18 months time I will be 70. Robin. It is good to have young people here, but "medium old" is also good! that is because "medium old", "old", "super old" and "dinosaurus old" know much, and they often talk how better thing was before! Robin, you have lived on 1/3 of your life, it is still pleanty of time to build models!
