yvesff
Started two Voodoos recently, used the Hannants photoetch cockpit set, True Details resin seat, Scheme is still not finalized but one will be an "F" version the other a "B". The "B" likely from 416 sqn as per the pictures below, or maybe 425 sqn. The "F" from 410 sqn for sure... No that's not me in the pictures but a good old friend... On the Job Training, CFB Chatham circa 1985

yvesff
Built 20 years ago, below are 3 Matchbox kits, I intend to model the same 410 sqn aircraft and compare, what twenty years of modelling experience looks like, believe me, these kits look a LOT better on photos than in person ! Don't get me wrong, I love these kits, looking at them, I remember a lot of when and where and what period of my life they represent. Most of them are missing the usual pieces, pitot tubes, antennas, etc... 410 Sqn, CF-101F, Flight Colours decals, detailed landing gear and cockpit, hand painted stencils, got color completely wrong, no Testors Voodoo Grey back then ! Notice the two inlet guide vanes (got that one right !) 416 Sqn, CF0101B, actually re-scribed (as best I could 20 years ago !) 414 Sqn, Electric Voodoo, Microscale decals, orange peel black galore !! yvesff
Got to work some more after a summer break... working on the cockpits right now, remember, one if an F version, one a B. Having a heck of a time right now building the clear windscreen behind the two seats and adding fine wires... Also, Dave Koss of Leading Edge told me the new Voodoo sheets should be out soon, said the decals should work much better than the old ones !? Dave has also updated his Model Photo page, well worth seeing: http://lemdecal.com/Model%20Gallery.html
icekj
Love it. Thanks for the photos. Just finished one of these kits myself. Build thread. No aftermarket for me but decals. Wish Revell of Germany would re-issue this kit. Want to build another. Ken
HAZER
I'll be watching this progress. I will be starting my Revell Voodoo as soon as I'm done my Viking model. The CF-101 is my all time favorite. I'll be building mine as a 409 Sqn jet....the best Voodoo squadron hands down!!! So good, they had to bring the squadron back as a CF-18 squadron to take over two squadrons! Just kidding, no nasty emails please. Thanks for the in progress photos of your builds, I'll be using them as reference. Talking about reference, the chance to see some new Voodoo photos is terrific! Please share more!! Photo's at the Q's are awesome! I'm hoping Dave at Leading Edge will get a Hawk One decal sheet out. I have given him some photos I have dug out of the Comox Museum for reference......... And yes, let's hope Revell re issues this gem of a kit! Cheers, HAZER
Andre
And yes, let's hope Revell re issues this gem of a kit! A couple of years ago RoG's 1/72nd F-101B, F-105D and F-104C kits were all over the shelves of a general store chain here in the Netherlands (Blokker), for about € 5 a pop. Most likely it was an old batch out of a warehouse somewhere, but the decal sheets looked freshly printed and were of current RoG standards. Needless to say I picked up quite a few of those, so they are around! Cheers, Andre
yvesff
Some more Progress... Almost finished painting the True Details resin seats, fron seat needs to be propped up about 1,5mm, rear one about 1mm. Still need to put some green paint in between the seatbelts !!! This picture shows the work to re-model the engine auxilliary air inlets on each side using putty, you couls also just puuty them all flat and use the Leading Edge decals provided for these. This is the "B" model cockpit, with an additional wire being added for the navigator scope and the front windshield scope. This is the "F" model http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d87/yvesff/IMG_0950.jpg And this is the same kit made about 15 years ago ...
AnthonyWan
Does this kit come with the recessed lines? or did you rescribe? Looking great BTW ! :D
yvesff
Does this kit come with the recessed lines? or did you rescribe? Looking great BTW ! :D Im 1-72nd it comes with beautifully done recessed panel lines, never understood why the 1-48th kit had raised lines...
JMan
Nice! The second Voodoo in the second real picture is all but invisible! :o WOW, I had to do a double take to see it your absolutely right, didnt see it there until you said something!

yvesff
Some more progress, managed to paint the two beasts... Enamel model master Voodoo gray, been a long time since I sprayed enamel, in fact, not since I moved to my "new" house 5 years ago, "the boss" would not let me spray unless I made a spray booth ... so I took a 1 week break to build one. Pretty happy with the results, once painted I experimented with several different mediums for the panel line wash... all of them were much two obvious for such a light gray, finally I settled to use a black Berol pencil (not the graphite stuff, more like coloring pencils). The photos shows it a lot more obvious than it really is (as always !), it's pretty easy to tone down however, a moistened tootpick does the trick. It's a lot more labour intensive than a wash, and I would only do this for non-camouflaged, lightly colored schemes. The photos below are not actually before and after shots but compares the two models I am building concurently...
kellyF15
I love the voodoo. I am glad our Canadian neighbors used it. I have always wondered what it would have been like over North Vietnam with Aim 7s and 9s.
JMan
WOW, these Voodoos are looking sharp! I love your paint booth there! Seems pretty easy to build!
yvesff
Got some more progress during the holidays, managed to start decalling the CF-101F, will be doing 101004 from 410 Sqn. This is the same serial I did with a Matchbox kit and Flight Colours decals about 20 years ago, a picture of if (or what remains) is in this thread somewhere. Will be interesting to put side by side...
Sean Bratton
Looks sharp! The colours of the decals are really starting to bring the model to life. Love the spray booth, too. The way you've set up the exhaust gives me some good ideas for my own future booth. Cheers, Sean
yvesff
Some more progress shots, I can see it all coming to an end for the "F" now... Leading Edge decals went on perfectly on top of a coat of Tamiya Gloss.
