  1. What a beauty! Sometimes its difficult to make all black finishes look inscale, but your details nails it. Nice work.
  2. That's my experience too. I have a lovely shade of 'bone' I mixed around 2005-6(?) which I go back to every so often...
  3. CTRL+V the text in question in your email program. CRTL+P the text in question in 'fast reply' box on the forum.
  4. Really nice, a posed in-flight is always a plus for me - that's how these beautiful machines are in their element!
  5. Actually one of them looks like some concept art from Kemp Remillard for a future war game. http://digital-art-gallery.com/picture/4429
  6. I just saw this elsewhere. Pretty mind-blowing news if it's true, and some really BIG implications...
  7. Also, be sure to thin your paints more. This is a common error for first-time users.
  8. They all look really interesting actually. Thanks for the link. Now I just want to see some better pics!
  9. I'll take a look around both forums - thanks for the heads up. Really sad about the Aerodrome though. It was quite obvious even from my infrequent visits that there was some really quite brilliant modeling going on there, and people with an amazing amount of knowledge and passion.
  10. I like this. The God of Modeling must be appeased, and demand tributes only in blood, wielding only the sacred modeling blade!
  11. I have a special feeling when I watch the Millenium Falcon do an upper loop around a cloud to turn back to the Cloud City to rescue Luke. The combination of sunset, the Falcon's maneuver and haunting soundtrack for that moment are for me a bit of film magic. Another 'magic moment' is when the apeman in 2001 flings up the bone he has just used and millions of years pass in a jump-cut and it becomes a satellite. I don't like any particular element (in fact I dislike the model used) but the the combination of everything then to illustrate the metaphor is another bit of movie magic which I love.
  12. One of my niche interests is WWI modeling, although my own contributions are far and few between. I've been a member of the Aerodrome for a long time, but haven't visited in a couple of months. Now I find the modeling forum is closed!!!! Not sure why. :( Anyway, does anyone know of any other WWI only modeling forums? I particularly miss posts by the brilliant Polish scratchbuilder Wojtek Fagia(?), and posts from a couple of other semiregular members. Any idea where the exiles have gone? I'm not dissing this esteemed forum at all, there's some great stuff here, but some of the work on The A
  13. Some beautiful aircraft. Great photography!
  14. We haven't had this problem in Australia. Got a pic of the new labels?
  15. Ah that's a pity. However I do love Ace Combat scale models. There have been some fantastic ones over the years - Japanese garage resin kits which look great when done up. Sparrow SA has done some awesome Ace Combat scratchbuilds/conversions. Check them out here - the website's in japanese, but scroll down to see an English list with links: http://homepage2.nifty.com/sparrow2/
  16. To date, if I've needed a hard-wearing highly glossy finish to seal paintwork, I've used lacquer-based clear paints, but these are very rough over acrylics. In my experience this can in some cases be done successfully, but fine airbrush work often gets eaten up, so it's not at all optimal. Some acrylic clears I've used don't seem to be very tough, ie, they don't respond well to polishing, for example. I'm looking for a tough gloss clear to go over acrylics. Any suggestions? We don't have the same 'Future' in Australia as in the US, so its not really an option, but perhaps it doesn't have the
  17. Really nice work there. As for Ureol board, I use a similar one which is sold under the name Renshape, or Ciba Tooling board. If others are finding Ureol board difficult to find they might try these alternatives which are great alternatives. Andy if you're interested, I made a thermoformed clear 'bubble' canopy (click here) - using a candle and some PETG (drinking container plastic) for the thermoforming. I built the plug out of Mori-Mori which is basically a type of finegrained 'Bondo'. I've since got a vacform machine but you don't need one. I look forward to seeing this one finally with
  18. Well I'm surprised it's your first - you did a fantastic job. I'll bet you learned a lot! I look forwards to what's next.
  19. Didn't realise we had these in service. Nice work.
  20. Wow! What a crazy scratchbuild, I love it! And you got the colours spot-on. The only thing that's rubbing me the wrong way is the woodgrain left on the finish. It's really glossy so that woodgrain sticks out even worse. Skinning it with a very think rolled out sheet of Aves Apoxie-Sculpt was a possibility. Never the less, a great scratchbuild, nice work!
  21. I had to do a double take at the Berkut! That Sea Stallion looks awesome. Thanks for the pics.
  22. My first child - a daughter - was born on 9/11/2001. It really put things into perspective. I was afraid for her future, instantly that day - the perfect storm - I was worried about a lot of things. But as the father of a daughter, I now know that islamic fundamentalism is not a world I want for her. Hopefully she grows into a contributing, creative and good human being. My thoughts now are with the people of NY. The last time I was in NY I stood at the top floor of the World Trade Centre with my wife, gazing on what Vonnegut called 'Skyscraper National Park'. I'm saddened about the fact
