  1. I would love to see some cool markings options for this, for high-viz VF-1 Wolfpack, I just love the way these beauties look with the red stripe and wolf heads, maybe a VF-111 Sundowners low-viz?, some aggressor squadron(s)? Something from Top Gun...MiG or Su Killers?
  2. Unbelievable work! The first couple photos look perfectly real, like they just came out of the late 80s or early 90s :) You should feel very proud to have such a nice project there.
  3. Forget decals!!!! That has "freehand" airbrushing it written all over its face!!!!! I'm thinking it might be time for a 1/35th Mi-24 Hind!!!!
  4. Congrats on finishing, looks nice, a long time in the making :)
  5. I'm still puzzled as to why Testors have the darker Mod Eagle F-15C color, but not the lighter FS 36251 (I know it comes in enamel, but personally I can't stand enamel paints, the smell, consistency, the drying time (I swear some fossils are created faster than this stuff dries). Until the day comes when they wise up and release it, does anyone have a good mix with Model Master Acrylics to create FS 36251 "Aggressor Grey?" I have one option listed in this paint mixing app I downloaded, but wanted to know if anyone had anything good they personally can vouch for? Thanks Dan
  6. I still wonder what was behind the unique camouflage they chose to do...there's actually a couple of other Flankers, some two-seaters that have similar camouflage.
  7. I remember someone here once wrote something to the extent of "I swear you guys would argue over a cure for cancer" :)
  8. The GWH 1/48th MiG-29C 9-13 I fee is by far one of the best kits ever designed, while I haven't built the 1/48th Tamiya F-16 I have heard very good things as well, if its anything like there 1/32 F-16CJ you'll have a blast with it. The engineering is magnificent, the detail is sharp and well done, it basically builds itself. There's also lots of markings options if you look into some of the Linden Hill Decals.
  9. You even got the "FAIL" flags on the attitude indicator...I'm speechless
  10. So my current project is an AH-1W for a friend of mine that flew them in Afghanistan, I have Two Bobs decals "Whiskeys in the Mix" but I'm hoping someone will know or can recommend someone that would be willing to do a custom 1/35th scale HMLA-367 squadron emblem on the engine cowling of a cobra with the words SCARFACE underneath it, in FS 35237, I'd also like the number on the nose same color (FS 35237) but with the number "33." Is there anyone that would be willing to do this (Obviously I'd provide compensation for it) or if no one here can help, would you be able to help me find someone wh
  11. Nice work! Now you just need to scratch build a 1/12 F-16A to put the cockpit in!!!! :)
  12. That's some really unbelievable detail you're adding there, can't wait to see this after some paint and possibly weathering???? :)
  13. One of the ways I try to accomplish the worn out finish with Russian aircraft involves lots of "bleaching" and "mottling" of the base colors. Over time, the real paint on the actual planes change colors; I attempt to duplicate this. The nice thing is you only need a base color that is a "good enough match" to the real color, in fact, it helps if its a bit darker than the actual color that way the weathering, fading, and bleaching will standout a little more. It's also good freehand airbrushing practice as I find you end up developing really fine control of the airbrush. I then use various
  14. Another small detail was I used acrylic chipping fluid over the metallic areas on the leading edge slats with various acrylic mixes for the blue and grey, and pollyscale RLM 65 (a pretty good match as I didn't feel like wasting acrylic paint just to use it for such a small area, and once the oil wash got to it, it pretty much blended it all together). Then I used a fairly stiff brush dipped in warm water and started chipping the paint away in this area. I highly recommend the MiG Production Acrylic Chipping Fluid for this as it can make some really nice weathering/chipping effects. I added
  15. Thanks fellas, for the exhaust I laid down a base coat of alclad pale burnt metal and jet exhaust, then I used the Tamiya weathering sets for the heat staining. I highly recommend the Tamiya weathering set as its easy to use and doesn't come off easily after being applied, its fun to play around with and get various effects, the pigments "set" by just applying a coat of Future to the plane.
  16. Hello everyone, I wanted to show my latest work, the venerable 1/32 Su-27 Flanker from Trumpeter. After almost 6 months it's finally done! I had sworn off "kitchen sink" builds for a while, but over time I was able to get ahold of the Zactoman Su-27 Nose, intakes, missile pylons, and AA-11 and AA-10 missiles (unfortunately the Zactoman canopy set was OOP at the time and I couldn't find it anywhere), Eduard internal and external photo etch, Aires cockpit and burner cans, various little bits of scratch building, Mr. Color paints, as well the extraordinarily rare Linden Hill "Flankers on Patrol
  17. WOW, that is one hell of a weathering job there, cool came scheme.
  18. Thanks everyone, I've seen one photo of a Shaw AFB F-16CJ in what appears to be Have Glass, does anyone know if the whole unit made this switch? I'd like to do a realistic F-16CJ in Have Glass carrying CBU-103, I just don't know if Shaw units did this? Did Spangdahlem F-16CJs carry CBU-103 for Hunter-Killer pairs?
  19. I'm not an engineer by any means, but I'm curious what some peoples' thoughts are on 3D printing and the future of scale modeling? Is the software somewhat easy to learn (I'm doubtful on this) is it CAD based? I'm fairly certain as the technology progresses and become more common that it will have more applications to our hobby. I'm still thinking that in the near future (maybe 5-10 years) the 1/32 Su-34 Fullback I've been dreaming about may be a few hacks, superglue, and sanding away!
  20. After doing some reading in Dan Hampton's book 'Viper Pilot" I was thinking of doing a 1/32 F-16CJ Block 50 in the Wild Weasel role. I have a few questions, does anyone have any photos of the F-16CJs out Spangdahlem AFB carrying CBU-103 or CBU-87 Cluster Bombs or AGM-65s? So far the only photos I can find show they carrying AGM-88 HARMs. I also like the weathered appearance of the 'Have Glass' F-16s, did they use that particular type of paint scheme out of Shaw AFB? (same thing, anyone have photos of Shaw AFB F-16CJs in 'Have Glass' carrying cluster bombs? Thanks Dan
  21. As an aside, these things seem like a terrible idea, if a tech support guy from Nintendo can take control of my computer to fix the wifi so I can watch Netflix on the wii, then these can and WILL be hacked, and then they're going to turn these things on our troops. PILOTS fly airplanes, not computers...
  22. So for each build I always try to incorporate some new techniques, materials, etc. to help keep things interesting. It's been a while since I've used acrylics for airbrushing (while I love Mr. Color, the fumes even with an exhaust fan are forcing me to take a break) I live in Denver so its a pretty dry climate which can complicate things with airbrushing acrylics. Due to the wide range of colors, I was going to give Model Master another try, I have used their thinner before, but does anyone know if they make an acrylic flow improver or is there some other type of flow improver that works wel
  23. One can certainly try any type of sandpaper, I was simply sharing this as a helpful technique for an area of modeling I've always had trouble with (weathered decals). I once read about a technique to fade decals while they were still on the sheet, kinda worked for the bigger ones, but the smaller one disintegrated in the water as too much of the carrier film had been removed.
