Need help Star & Bar size on AF SEA F-4 Phantoms
ikar replied to P-38 guy's topic in General Discussion
Look up the tech order, T.O. 1-1-4, My wife got me one back when she was a C-130 crew chief at Little Rock in the 70s. I just looked up the size in the T.O. and it calls for 15 inch stars unless you have a really big aircraft like a B-52. This T.O. covers all the different type of markings that could have been used on all the Air Force aircraft in the inventory at the time. This includes Tail Codes, warnings, serial number placement, camo patterns, colors and so on. The actual camo patterns don't have to be exact, there was always some variation, and the national markings were either stenc -
this is what the C&H kit looks like. The only TF that I ever saw was at the little museum at Lackland A.F.B. back in the 70s . Sorry about the quality of the picture, it wasn't a good day. You will have to put on all those little vortex generators on the canopy, after you make them. They are very thin and not too big.

Out of curiosity I typed in MK7 bomb, thinking it might be a nuke, and one of the first pictures that showed up was a F-101A with what looks like a nuke mounted underneath. There may be a couple more interesting sites a little below that. Back in the 70s we were drastically outnumbered by the Russians and it was thought that nukes might be our only hope of stopping a large scale attack. It often became a subject of morbid discussion among others about the subject of Russian aggression no matter what theater you were stationed in, European, Pacific, or the States. Someone even wr

Thart D-7 caught me off guard. Nice work. Where did you get the conversion kit for the NX?

The base color is from a Tamiya can and since this monster had raised skin detail I decided to sand instead of dry brushing like the instructions suggested. I might build the Monogram kit and put them side by side. The monogram kit might be about half the size. Just a little detail painting left.

moving in summer, plastic models melt risk?

I live in Florida and keep my models in the garage, no problem. When I was in Okinawa some of the toy stores didn't even have air conditioning. Never had one that was damaged, and the climate there was a little hotter and damper that the Orlando area because we were only about a mile or less from the water. You shouldn't have any problems. Come to think of it, in S.E.A. during the war I had a few models in the barracks. The only cooling we had was a open slat window and it got real hot during the day and only slightly cooler at night. Except for the fire the kits did ok. -

I sit corrected, it's ben a long slow, unemployed week. Maybe i'll watch it again. I've got the time. -
This was a big one, measuring a bit over 3 feet long. The instructions say you can use super glue or fast epoxy for assembly but I found super glue could not make a good enough hold so I ended up using JB Kwik for the areas that took the most stress. The rear fins were the hardest part, partly because I didn't want them fully extended.

Would be a good relation to the movie Up Periscope and the Murmansk Brushing Incident. -
Always liked the OV-10. It was one of two types of aircraft my wife would have been a crew chief on. We had a squadron of them at Korat. Here's one of my favorite shots from that squadron:

In that scale you have the Franklin, a couple different scale D-7 Battlecruisers, and the Romulan and Klingon Birds of Prey, it you stick to Star Trek.

Now, do they get to paint a kill marker on their stack or maybe fly a victory flag? -
Out of the F-84 series I liked this one best. At Lackland A.F.B> they got in a squadron's strength of them and several were scattered around the base for display, replacing the V-1s that had been there. The rest went to the Security Police school to be used as training devices for the aircraft security classes.

Finally getting back to you. I live just east of the Orlando city limits. My first working day at U-Tapao we almost had a major accident happen in the bomb dump. One of our Duce1/2 patrols had been delivering food to the towers there and made the mistake of trying to take a short cut across the grass. Not a thing to do during monsoon season. He sank it up to the frame. I was acting as assistant in a M-706 with a 13 man reaction team when the driver, the real commander received a call and we diverted to the K-9 kennels and transferred into a M-113 that had been parked there in case it

I've never tried lighting anything from scratch since I wired up a couple little light bulbs to some batteries inside my first Monogram B-52D back in the 60s. That sound a bit out of my league.

I think the NX is my favorite Enterprise, It was a time when they didn't have everything down pat and things could go wrong. They were also more like NASA in some ways, trying to learn and being somewhat excited at things they encounter along the way. I have one that I lit up but about half of the lights have died, including one of the nacelles. What is a good source for a decent lighting kit? I was also thinking about getting the phase cannons for one of my models.

We were told there was a ship bringing in a bunch of paper towels and T.P. It will immediately be off-loaded as soon as the Edmond Fitzgerald arrives. Should be sometime tonight.

This is where the C-130 L.A.P.E.S. system would work, no stopping, you just let it slide out the back and some to rest on the sidewalk.

What about the Hasegawa weapons sets? You should still be able to get them somewhere.

Who makes the conversion kit for the A.F. M-706 Commando car? I'm want to do another one but would rather have the conversion and detail kits than do it myself again. Then I'll need decals made for my squadron's vehicles, but one thing at a time.

The Pedro was an interesting thing to ride in and could provide all sorts of diversions besides what a mission in one allowed. I'm looking forward to a H-43 kit in either 1/72nd or 1/48th. Any idea when they might be available?
-
I'm looking forward to it. Finally a chance for a good kit in a scale that I usually build aircraft on. Don't underestimate the Pedro. They were also used to support the local villages by bringing in supplies of all types from food and medical to whatever they might need for a new irrigation system. There was one time it landed on the road outside the base clinic to pick up a critical patient and transport him to a hospital in Bangkok. It took a couple refueling stops, but they made it. I flew several recon flights in those things. We used to cover the local area around the base, look

NAF Atsugi gate Guard F14 accessible to public?
ikar replied to tomthegrom's topic in General Discussion
I'm not familiar with Navy base security, having been in the Air Force, but unless you have a need to be on the base I have a feeling that your chances of getting past the gate are not that good. Especially since the recent shootings. Even when I was in you had to get permission to enter, and have a valid reason, and be vouched in by someone who will take the responsibility of your actions.. -
Something you didn't see very often: Then there's this, a grey AC-130, while the others were either cammo top over black or all black. Just because I like the B.U.F.F.: WE had a lot of them and eventua;;y gpt spme "G" models in.

I'm sure someone's probably working on them but be patient, after all, it's a tankless job.
