All those who helped me with the SR-71A pitot shots

Recommended Posts

This model went through a little crash some time ago and looked rather dreary but I needed to get it back in shape for this Saturday's AVG display at the AVG's Contest. It took a little bit to get it cleaned up and back in service but I think it will look alright setting next to the other builds in the display.

Thanks Guy's: Mark Houpt, Moose 135, The Rat, and Hans, for their pictures of the Pitot tube configuration, couldn't have done it without your help!!!

So here is what it looks like after I got it all put back together and put the new pitot on. 1/48th scale Testors

Hope to see you at the contest tomorrow, Antelope Valley College in Lancaster CA.

Cheers,

Larry.

Thank you all for your kind words.

I will get some more shots of it soon and post them up...

It was a pretty big hit at the Contest yesterday in the display for the AVG group. It looked big next to all those little airplanes. LOL!!!

Whoa!!! Larry! That M2-F1 on the bottom shelf...it that 1/48th? How 'bout the F-8s at the top, are they 1/48th also? I've got 1/48th decals for the F-8 DFBW, but I really want to do the SCW F-8 too.

<_< What a gorgeous looking Blackbird! Larry, you've got to post more pics of it!

Thanks man, as soon as I get the right background paper I'll be takin more shots.

Gorgeous! Very inspirational!!!! I've just bought a Testors Sr-71+TD wheels and cockpit and cutting edge exhausts with the intention of building a Early A-12. Please more pictures!!!!!

James.

Thanks James, as I said above waiting for some background paper to shoot more shots.

Sweet Blackbird B)

You must post some more pics of the details? :)

Appreciate that Anthony! Look for more shots soon!

I feel honoured to have been of assistance with that beauty!

I'm the one that is fortunate to have people here that will help out when the need arose. I thank you very much for your assistance!

Great group of models there too! Looking forward to seeing more of that Blackbird. Another request while I'm at it, can you post some pics of your Edwards Raptor? It looks good.

Thanks again Richard! I'll ask Mike Valdez about shots of that F-22, it's his bird.

WOW awesome!

Have you got any other pics? Love the way you have broken up the black with the red covers.

Great work!

Thanks Nimrod I'll have some soon but after 22 years the covers look better from a distance I'm affraid.

Thanks for the Whoa! M2-F1 belongs to David Newman and he's doing them in Resin. He said he is fine tuning the molds and will release them soon. The one on the bottom is 1/48th and the all on the top shelve are 1/72nd.

Thanks for all the comments! I appreciate them allot! If I missed anyone I thank you too!

Cheers,

Larry.

Okay, I just E-mailed him a few days ago asking whether or not he would enlarge his 72nd M2-F1. He said he is working on it.

I want to combine it with the NASA R4D (which I have decals for) and make it part of my mothership/X-plane display!! :) Now if only somebody made a 1/48th scale Pontiac Catalina convertible! :)

Simply gorgeous Larry! <_<

That means allot Richard, Thanks!

Gorgeous job on that Blackbird!

Thanks Mr. Afterburner, I appreciate that!

Best -71 I've ever seen! Great detail, esp. those wheel wells, heck the whole thing. Really nice when one considers what you started with!

Chuck

Thank you very much Chuck. Back in the day though, it didn't seem like that big a deal of a build. Everything I built was allot of work, I just wish I could build as fast as back then! I'm in the middle of an F/A-18E that's driving me crazy! Some day though I'll get it.

Cheers,

Larry.

Hey Larry,

Looks really nice.

I've got one in my stash with aftermarket cockpit and wheels.

Did you do something with the front weel bay?

When i look at the kit in my stash the front wheel bay has very little depth.

Did you apply aftermarket decals ?

How with the rescribing? I've read somewhere that the plastic is very brittle for rescribing purposes, is that true ?

Luc

Thanks Luc!

Well it was a long time ago when I built this model but I was able to find an old picture of what I did to the front wheel well. I honestly don't remember ever doing it but I gots the shot of it so I guess I did?

Copyofimg085.jpg

Hmmmm decals. I think I used Microscale decals but lets see what was the sheet number... Well it was 48-239. I'm surprised I still have the instuctions and a few spare decals plus the kit decals.

As far as rescribing goes, the plastic was no better or worse to work with than any other's I've rescribed except for the new Revell plastic on there F/A-18E which is too soft. I would think you won't have any problems rescribing this model! Go for it!!! As a matter of fact; rescribing was one of the most enjoyable parts of building this one as it was the second one that I had started and finished rescibing!

Hope that helps and GOOD LUCK on yours!!!

Cheers,

Larry.

Very nice Larry, I was curious about the decals myself, I recall the kit decals being very dark, almost brownish. I want some Hi-Res pic's of that thing, and maybe some day I'll be motivated to brake out my

A-12.

David Newman sells his X Plane kits under the name of Muroc Models, if anyone had any questions.
