It's hard to keep the wings on a plane that isn't designed to divebomb. That's a lot of stress on the wing boxes. The amount of inspections we do because of the C-130 that went down in California.
is staggering. This plane was in tip top shape. Sometimes what we don't see can kill on these old planes. I would rather lose some variety than more lives.

Curt ,That video is very heart breaking to see it go down like that..

{and you do a GOOD job of keeping them maintained.. :thumbsup: }

It's fire season in West Texas. Again.

I got these pics from my driveway this evening of Tankers "00", "10" (he didn't cooperate; he flew behind me!), "22", and "25". They were all headed into KABI (Abilene Regional which is just a few miles to my northeast) and did a few approaches before the sun went down. As usual, my pictures suck.

Let's all hope they just fly proficiency flights this year.

Here's a few that I took about ten or so years ago.

Sorry for quality, before I got a digital camera.

These guys have been busier than bees the past few days. It was so bad night before last my son had an asthma attack caused from what we think was the smoke. Driving that night I could see the ashes blowing in the wind in my headlights that reminded me of a light snow. Really wierd. That fire was 40 miles away!

The fire bombers have been flying their tails off of course. I managed to snap a pic of Tanker 55 this afternoon between missions. Shortly after I took this photo the sky turned to look like the second photo. Wow.

I was checking on my chicken brooder out in the garage this afternoon when I heard a C-130 passing by. I knew it wasn't an H-model from the sound so I looked outside, and saw this. It took me a second to run and grab my camera, so I didn't get the tail. It's obviously a MAFFS, which we have flying out of Dyess right now, but this is the first time I saw one flying into KABI (Abilene Regional). The only fire bombers flying out of there are the civilian guys. Who knows, he may have just shot an approach, as this is the only pass I saw him make.

Hey I recognize a lot of people here from aviation photography forums I'm on.

I guess this would be a great place for this newbie to show off my other hobby. Fire photography (and specifically aerial assets).

And just in case anyone is curious, yes, I do end up wearing Phoschek quite regularly. :coolio:

This one was hangin out in Vernal, Ut for a week or so before the fires around Northern Utah broke out. Great bunch of guys, they let a few of us that stopped by to come out and walk all around the helicopter.

This first one was from the passenger side of the airport and then one of the employees suggested that I go around to the general aviation side. That was when I was able to just walk on out to the aircraft qand shoot the following.

This last one is four pictures put together as an experiment to do a panorama shot - finished size is 12" by 60"

My brother's a Blackhawk tech out at JFTB Los Alamitos. I went by the base to visit him the other day, and they had one of the CANG Blackhawks standing by for fire duty. I was able to get out on the flight line and snap a few pics. You can see that it's all loaded up and ready to go. The big red thing in the passenger cabin is the water bucket. The rest of the stuff in the cabin is the crew's luggage and gear. Also, notice how about one third of one of the main rotor blades is painted on top for visibility from above. Hope you like 'em!

Don't suppose you could find out any history about this helcopter from your brother could you? Obviously it is ex military as it still has the mount for the chaff/flare dispenser but some of the extra bumps on it may suggest it could be ex Special Forces from SOAR. I could be completely wrong but just wondered if you may be able to find out a little history on it from your brother.
