Kostucha
I'm thinking, with all the latest B-17 talk going on here, who's in for a Flying Fortress Group Build? My thoughts for the parameters: 1. Any model of B-17, not just WWII time frame (be it traditional bomber, test bed, exchange aircraft, waterbomber, etc) 2. Any scale, from 1/144, to custom 3. Diorama or static model 4. OOB to "So much after market that I can barely see the original kit" 5. 25% or less completed before the start of the GB 6. Start date... 1 October, 1 November, 1 December... Who's in? Mark Edited December 28, 2010 by Kostucha
Alonzo Fonzo
Sounds cool! I have a B-17G and B-17F in 1:48 in my stash and some aftermarket items I collected over the past years (Engines, flaps, PE,....) Its time to build at least one of these birds!
caudleryan
What about rebuilds? I have a G model in 1/48 that could use a rebuild. RYAN.
rightwinger26
I'm in, I have a G and an F I'm looking for an excuse to start and combine into one incredible F
Kostucha
Awesome! As for a rebuild Ryan, if you're taking the kit right apart, absolutely! What exactly were you planning? Cheers, Mark.
Lock n' Load
Will have to buy a 1/72nd kit Dibs on Memphis Belle
caudleryan
Awesome! As for a rebuild Ryan, if you're taking the kit right apart, absolutely! What exactly were you planning? Cheers, Mark. The kit was built when I first started the hobby. Just addressing the seams, new decals, and new paint. I would have to take apart about 90% of the model to clean up the parts, and strip the paint off. RYAN.
wh1skea
If you can get a start date of either January or February, I'd be in. Have to wait on my tax return to buy something that big (plan on building a 1/48).
rightwinger26
January or Feruarary!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was all excited and getting ready to start today:) Guess that would give me time to gather reference photos
Kostucha
Alrighty thoughts on this: Starts December 1st Ends May 31st (6 Months total) Any model of B-17, not just WWII time frame (be it traditional bomber, test bed, exchange aircraft, waterbomber, etc) Any scale Diorama or static model OOB to "So much after market that I can barely see the original kit" 25% or less completed before the start of the GB And Ryan, if you're doin that much, it's more effort than a straight build, I'd say heck ya! Chuck1945
Alrighty thoughts on this:Starts December 1st Ends May 31st (6 Months total) .... Might want to hold off starting this until the new RoG B-17G actually hits the street. I know it is supposed to be out this year, but ....
Kostucha
Great idea! So, we're in for a group build, and we'll wait until the RoG 1/72 B-17 comes out? I'm good for that. You folks? Cheers, Mark.
rightwinger26
I guess so, I was all excited this morning to finally have something to push me to get started on my project, guess I can wait
Kostucha
I feel the same way too. However, I'd love to have a good ole group build and see some very unique 17's come out of this as well. I'm thinking that this would be a great opportunity to, as Chuck mentioned, take a good look at the 1/72 RoG B-17. BUT, given the tentative release date, let's give it no more than 6 months to wait for it. If in 6 months it hasn't been released, we'll carry on and start the group build. Steve N
Sounds cool! Right now I'm in the middle of buidling the 1962 Revell B-17F for our local model club's "golden oldie" contest. I think this may be the first 1/72 injection-molded B-17 kit ever made. It might be fun to follow it up with the newest once the Revell AG kit hits the streets this fall. Chuck1945
Sorry mate, me think the first injection molded B 17 was the G from Lindberg. I build that one in the 19 fifties. But wasn't the Lindberg kit 'box scale' whereas the Revell kit was 1/72 which is what Steve thought? - "first 1/72 injection-molded B-17 kit" I vaguely remember the Lindberg kit, but as box scale, as were many kits at the time.
