Bravosierra001
Decided to take a break on my OV-10 build while I wait for some parts for it to do the new F-18C from Kinetic. I am going to do this OOB except for maybe a seat. Just not into kit seats that much I want to keep it simple, and the purpose of this build is to see how well the get builds up. As detail sets come out I may detail another one up in the future. Upon opening the box I was very impressed. The external detail is vey fine, and upon a quick look over it appears that there are not too many injector sprue marks in critical areas. I am going to start on the cockpit first and decided to wash it all up in my sonic cleaner to get any residue off. Probably not needed but I like to do it anyway. Then I primed it all up. The pit looks pretty good, and is broken down into sections that will make it easier to paint. The bezels on the MFD's could have been a little more prominent for my taste, but still do not look bad. Bravosierra001
Here is the seat done up. Had done it for another kit that stalled out. So I touched it up for this build. I suck at hand painting, but it will look ok once stuffed into the pit.
my favs are F`s
Veeery nice and promising start. The one-seat F-18s are my favorite! Happy building!
Adam1818
Nice to see a build of this new kit. That seat looks amazing! Who makes it? Your hand painting looks pretty solid to me!!

Thanks Adam... The seat came out of a Black Box set. I wish they sold them separately for I think the are really nice and I like the detail. Brandon
Major Walt
I think your hand painting is great. That seat looks good! Painting those things to a decent standard is never easy and you've done better than I could ever do. Looking forward to this build!
a4s4eva
Seat looks great. I think you're too hard on yourself (but we all do that) . Does anyone know if the Quickboost seats will fit this kit?
tosouthern66
Brandon I am glad to see someone doing a WIP on this kit. I want to buy one in the near future and wanted to see what my fellow modelers here could do with this kit 1st. Your seats look great, I might halve to send a set to you to paint up for me. I suck at building but I keep trying! Keep on it, can not wait to see more!
speedlimit
The seat looks fine to me. Eric

dehowie
Nice to see a build! Quick question do you use your sonic cleaner for your airbrush? How do you find using the sonic cleaner and what other uses do you use it for? Nice looking seat off to a good start!
Bravosierra001
Great start Brandon - don't forget the ejection handle on your seat. Thanks... Yea I usually put the D ring on last. If not I will knock it off at least three times. Brandon

How do you find using the sonic cleaner and what other uses do you use it for? Nice looking seat off to a good start! Thank you Sir! Yes I do use it to clean my airbrush. When I do a rebuild and change out all of the o rings I will give them a good cleaning, as well as about every two builds. I am also into building and shooting rifles. Garands and M-14's are my favorites so I do a lot of reloading, and I use it to clean brass after I tumble it. And the of course I use it for my wifes jewelry. Not sure if it really makes a difference on the plastic, but it can not hurt, and should help paint stick a little better. Brandon
dehowie
Hi Brandon thanks for the info mate. Would you recommend it for airbrush cleaning? Always have airbrush cleaning to do and always looking for an easier way! Thanks mate and looking forward to following your build. Great stuff!

Bravosierra001
Thanks Guys for the encouraging comments. Here is just a quick post of some of the basic painting of the cockpit. I still have more to pick out and to paint and I will go into more detail in the next post, for I should be done with that area in the next sitting. This is the kit IP and tub with the seat just sitting loosely in the cockpit. It will look better once I get some color, and all of the dials picked out. Thanks for looking Brandon Edited June 28, 2016 by Bravosierra001

Darren Roberts
Here are some resin bits that I made up for Steel Beach. I hate doing intakes, so the covers were a given. The ECM antennas will come with multiples so you can have enough for a couple of kits. Great looking cockpit, Bravosierra! Be careful when you put the rear decking on. I found it didn't fit snuggly until I shaved off the two rectangular tabs in the middle of the piece. I couldn't figure out why they were there, so off they came. After that, the fit was great. Also, be careful when assembling the landing gear. It's really fiddly. I'm not sure I like how it's engineered, but maybe after building a couple of them, it won't be so bad. Looks like some nice aftermarket. I was going to use the intake covers on my last Hasegawa build that stalled out, I made the exhaust covers out of tape and Mr Surfacer. Thanks for the heads up on the rear decking. I was trying to dry fit it last night and could not get it to fit just right and thought about removing the two tabs. Now I will for sure remove them after you confirmed it. So far though I like what I see in this kit. Brandon Edited June 29, 2016 by Bravosierra001
Cliff C
Great work Brandon!! Glad to see you tackling this kit. I got about 10 hours into my build and then lost momentum. Following your build my get me motivated again. Cliff
Bravosierra001
Well I got the cockpit as done as I am going to get it for this build. As I stated above, I am not going to get bogged down with detailing out this build, but am going to build the kit to see how it builds up as compared to the Hasegawa kit, and to keep it fun. This cockpit looks pretty good for an OOB pit in my opinion. With a little scratch building, some IP decals and a after market seat I feel as if there would be no real need for a resin pit due to the included side wall detail that is included in the kit. The seat is just sitting in the pit, and will not be glued in until after the fuselage is painted. Sorry for the poor pics... I am learning a new camera, and hopefully will get better with it as this build progresses. As you can see in this pic the cockpit tub glues to the top of the nose wheel well. The tub fits great and no gaps are apparent when the top of the fuselage was sit into place. Now on to the intakes. Brandon
Teeradej
Looking good Brandon. The kit cockpit looks adequate to my eyes.
AndrewPerren
Looking good Brandon. What's your plan with the intakes? Location is a bit vague -I'm tempted to try gluing the trunk to the lip and then go in from the front.

Location is a bit vague -I'm tempted to try gluing the trunk to the lip and then go in from the front. Well I am going to glue the leading edge of the intake to the main body of the intake so that it looks like these pics. And then I am going to slide it in the front of the fuselage by bending back the area on the fuse marked in red. The marked portion can be bent back enough and manipulated so that the intake assy can be installed through the front. I am thinking you kinda have the same idea?
