  1. Thanks for the suggestion, I do have that sheet, which has #56 in what I assume are the same colors but in a soft-edge pattern.
  2. Does anyone have any reference material on the Top Gun A-4 #52 in the Ferris Scheme? Any diagrams? I'm positive I've seen a completed build of it here, but I can't find it at all now. Thanks, Brian
  3. Even considering that a percentage of our plastic in the box is left over and discarded, how does that compare to something as common as single-use plastic tableware? Think of how many millions of sets of that are given out each day (often not even used - I hate it when I get some and don't need, and I try to save to for later, resulting in a large pile of the stuff). Given the declining popularity of our hobby (more specialized audience?), even taking time to consider the impact of plastic models seems silly in relation to the other 99.999% of disposable plastic. I suppose you could keep all
  4. For lacquer, Mr Paint does have 15042, and Lifecolor, Mission and Vallejo are all acrylic options.
  5. No. None of the regular Air Combat Training squadrons would use air to ground ordnance. Only Sidewinders and ECM pods, and more recently AMRAAMS and some targeting pods. There really isn't a need for our "Red" forces to train bombing our own "Blue" forces. And if they did, they would be practice bombs only. For Navy F-18s: There was one former aggressor F-18 in gray camo in VFA-97 that flew missions off the carrier. It's also possible that Hornets from VFA-204 carry air-to-ground loads, but probably only practice bombs. As for the Air Force, F-15s from that 65th
  6. Yeah, I would go with 35450 (faded if you want to match that look). Some sheets for that one list 35190, but that's too dark. That photo shows just how faded those Navy birds get. Even on land they get more weathered than Air Force jets.
  7. Just to add a few caveats: Jim puts out a great product, but check your references, on each one I have found areas that are different shapes to the real ones (you can see the tape above where I have to add a section). Secondly, he gives instructions for the which masks to apply between which color coats. For complex schemes this can get a bit involved, alternating coats of one color, another, and then the first one again. I sometimes try to modify the procedure to limit the amount of paint being applied, as I'm afraid five or so sprays over the entire model might build up too thick (at leas
  8. Yeah, the ones from Advanced Modeling Products. Absolutely. Just finishing up a Navy F-16B splinter. I have no idea how I would have cut the tape otherwise, the time necessary would be overwhelming. At $12, it's worth the price. So far I have mainly got them for splinter schemes,- for schemes with 2 or 3 colors over large areas it may not be as cost effective, it all depends on how quickly you want to work. They work great - stick them on and they come off leaving clean lines. I just had to do a color repaint, so I even got them to work a second time, although I'm not sure how many reapplic
  9. In the last week, I've ordered from Sprue Brothers, Scale Hobbyist and Hobbyworld. All three had excellent service, sometimes shipped within in hours. It really comes down to what's in stock in each, and the paint lines they carry. Scale Hobbyist is great for paint, they pretty much have every line - except MRP (and all three seem to be short on Hataka). Trying MRP for the first time, I have to say the performance is phenomenal. I wasn't all that satisfied with the color accuracy, which seems off on the first three I tried, but I'm hoping others are closer.
  10. Have you noticed if the bottles have the same faint yellow tint that the spray cans have? The only thing I can get to work smoothly is the Acryl clears. I've tried just about every other brand, but nothing cooperates like them.
  11. This is the only accurate site: https://www.rustoleum.ca/product-catalog/consumer-brands/testors/
  12. As I posted before the reset: looking at their updated website, they still exist, but the color list is gutted. No more enamel 36118, 36270, 34079, etc. Only 29 Model Master I colors remain. In Acryl many like 36375 are gone. Plus, no more metalizers.
  13. So, the Testor's Red putty is the same as Bondo? I was thinking of trying that.
  14. I've been having a lot of problems with it the last few years. The last few tubes have dried up quickly. This last one I've kept in plastic wrap, when I used it this week the top seemed a bit dry. I pressed on it and the bottom seam blew, leaving all the good putty on the desk. It's frustrating, but the green stuff still seems to work better.
  15. I'm not sure about a fully armed operational load, but I have seen just one tank in the aft bay, with the forward empty.
  16. That's what I'm doing. I like to use the acrylics for brushing details, so things like black & white and common grays I'm constantly using (although I'll probably go back to Tamiya, and try Lifecolor (if I can get that)). But, if they discontinue the clears I'm in real trouble, as I can't get anything else to work as well. So, I'm stocking up and I will probably vacuum seal them to get another decade of acryl.
  17. I believe they close at 6. I try to get there once a year to resupply, the last time was February. Still a great store, and good for supplies, although they haven't added any newer paint lines. As for the kits, there are many, but I don't think I 've ever bought one there. Not many new ones, and the stock seems to be the same ones they have had for 10-20 years, although if it's what someone is looking for it's a great find. You do have to climb past people doing crack in the parking lot, but as I far as I know they are still there. Just to clarify -you did go to St Paul, not Minn
  18. After getting back into the hobby, I quickly found out that kits only get more expensive, if you can find them again. It's even worse for aftermarket parts and decals that usually only get one print run. So, I just buy everything that I know I will want as soon as I can. I have a lot of kits that have been raided for parts - mostly ordnance, but some have swapped parts to do different blocks, etc. Sometimes I find kits are not up to a certain standard and get superseded by newer ones, leaving the originals for what-ifs , or some test project. So, having a large amount of resources, is I t
  19. That's interesting, I don't think I've seen an F-16A in the two-color scheme. They went to the F-16C in 1995, so I'm surprised the new repaint was being done before that.
  20. While the photo above is most definitely not a Sniper, the 18th in Alaska uses Sniper pods, and the 64th used Litening for one Red Flag. Just as F-15Cs now carry them for air intercepts, it is useful in identification. I was talking to the 64th a few weeks ago and they said they could really use them to go against 5th generation opponents, and it may be possible now that they are getting block 42 jets .
  21. Any chance anyone has the clear sprue (J) from the Hasegawa 1/48 F-15E? At the least, I need the front windscreen Part J1. Thanks, Brian
  22. I haven't seen the sheet, but since they are arctic I assume its for the 18th Aggressor squadron in Alaska - in which case they are block 30 (big mouth ) version.
  23. Very low, considering the crash happened below the parking lot. Does anyone know if these flights are part of a mandatory training syllabus, or just free flight time that the pilots electively get to fly?
  24. I know Bullseye has talked about doing another F-16 Aggressor sheet. I think they are just waiting for a few more new schemes.
