  1. And to sound like a broken record here....paint with flat white first and then apply your yellow over it for better coverage. Greg
  2. Jeff, Sorry to hear of the mishap here. The whole Ebay rating thing is always a sticky proposition especially since the buyer has all the power in terms of rating the sale with feedback. I'd say if you can get your seller to send a refund for the difference ($20 for the cover you purchased elsewhere) you can just move on without any negative or even neutral feedback rating. However, if he's unwilling to meet you on this request I'd say you'd be fair to offer a neutral or less than rating. Best, Greg
  3. Good morning and welcome aboard. Regarding the colours, I'd have to believe those actually used would have been RLM 70/71 over RLM65, as that was much more common on E-5's than the maritime colours of RLM 72/73. Best, Greg
  4. The quick answer is yes.......to a large degree, enamels are easier to airbrush than most acrylics. That's not to say, however, that one cannot learn to airbrush acrylics with nearly as much ease as that with enamels. I guess my question is why, if you are already using acrylics, would you think or believe you should switch to enamels for exterior work? Again, with a little practice, many will tell you that they can airbrush just as easily with acrylics as that with enamels. And yes...you absolutely CAN use Future over enamels. Greg
  5. Chuck, This isn't a personal attack geared towards you and I honestly don't understand being hostile about it like this. It IS hypocritical, from what I've seen and read here, for some to dismiss Future as being a viable and useful means of sealing up after decals for a nice glossy BMF without changing the appearance of the metal tones painted in place. Clearly you've either overlooked or dismissed the countless threads posted here regarding sealing BMF paint jobs with Future, for if you were paying attention many HAVE claimed that Future alters the appearance of the paint. That is total
  6. As you can see, there are usually a wide range of answers to most questions in this section. I come from the other side of the camp in which I ALWAYS use Future both before and after applying decals when using Alclad II lacquers for my BMF builds. I've heard the argument countless times here that using Future distorts the natural appearance of BMF finishes, which I have to say is not only inaccurate but mildly amusing. Consider it this way....literally everyone swears by using Future for canopies as the result is a more realistic, glass-like finish to a plastic piece. Future does not dis
  7. Welcome and well done machine flown by Walter Dahl. Greg
  8. Grossly overpriced, given there are plenty of other quality riveting tools out there for under $20USD. In fact, I believe the Radu riveter I purchased last year was all of $14USD including shipping from Radu's shop in Ireland here to the States and seems to be THE riveting tool for modelers. Greg
  9. RIP Major Winters and condolences to his family. Respectfully, Greg

    DB601 vs. DB605

No one would know the difference given the DB 605 was essentially a DB 601 block bored out. Greg
  11. Wow....that truly is terrible news to hear of. Blessings to his family. Greg
  12. Prayers and blessings to you Matt for a speedy recovery my friend. Greg

    He-219

Pretty much a waste of money doing so in this case as, again, the Tamiya parts are more than adequate....not nearly as delicate as you might think and the consensus here has shown the Tamiya kit to be outstanding on its own. Greg
  14. Leo, You can purchase here and for quite a bit less than ordering directly through the Eagle-Editions website. Best, Greg
  15. ....will probably be me....given how much I love a challenge, not to mention the look of the Zwilling! Greg
  16. You're quite welcome Erik and best of luck on this upcoming build. Just finishing the 1/48 Italeri version now. Greg
  17. Here's a select few that may be helpful: Best, Greg
  18. RLM 66 for the interior, RLM 02 for the struts and landing gear bay. Greg
  19. Here's a couple that should help: Greg
  20. I believe in Brett Green's Modeling the Bf 110 there's a night figher he did with a black scheme. However, instead of flat black or the various options listed here he actually did a blend of black and dark brown. Despite what you might think, it actually looks black but also allowed the panel lines to be painted in flat black and the contrast was quite nice. For the most part I'd stay away from flat black and look more towards a scale black like he recommended, then simply coat with Future for decal placement and finish with clear flat to bring back to a dull coat. This was the technique us
  21. I'd suggest using these next time, as they require no fiddly bending and curling like those PE sets require. Greg

    Fw-190 A6-R11

As far as I know, JG 300 was about the only unit that flew these Fw 190 variants with the FuG 217 Neptun radar. Likewise, some of the black and whites I have of these seem to indicate that the upper portion was RLM 76 with very slight mottling while other birds featured RLM 74/75/76 more commonly found during the period. As JG 300 acquired planes from other Jagdgeschwader units, theatre schemes were commonly left intact until groundscrew could make the necessary adjustments for their Nachtjager role. Essentially there is no hard rule as much as locating pictures like you have here of Black 8
  23. There are quite a few aviation artists out there who do similiar work. Two of my personal favorites are Robert Taylor and Nicholas Trudigan. Both artists sell limited edition lithographs that are signed by some of the pilots of the work being depicted, as well as by the artist and are numbered. A good place to start would be start with this website, as the folks here are very friendly and either have what you may be looking for or at least be able to point you in the right direction. Best, Greg
  24. Thanks but no thanks. At a walloping .15¢ a piece I'll spend all of .30¢ for an entire build……one blade for the main construction and trimming and another for trimming while masking the canopy frames. Call me a reckless spender. Greg
