  2. Go here guys for some good photos on my Fotki page... http://public.fotki.com/tsumner/revetments/ Terry
  3. Yes yes..I agree. The natural metal finish work is very well done. And Rick, if you read this, please don't take this as crticism, but the real airplane was not natural metal...it was painted the silver lacquer that most F-100's wore. But if you choose to take artistic license and model the plane with a naural metal finish, that's certainly your perogative. Nice work! Terry
  4. I'll grant you the metal finish is certainly superb. But I believe the real one this gorgeous model is modeled after was not natural metal. It was painted silver lacquer, as were most F-100's. There is a photo of the real Hun on the F-100 site here... http://www.f-100.info/images/f-100d_63307-2.jpg While NMF may not be correct, it sure as heck is well done! I have tried the aluminum foil method myself and haven't had good luck with it. My modeling hat is off to you sir! Terry Sumner
  5. Taken in part from here... http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/hydro...ics/q0226.shtml The aircraft carrier emerged as a new type of naval ship following World War I. In selecting an abbreviation to represent this new ship, the US Navy chose the letters "CV" as an abbreviation for "carrier aviation." Although it might seem more logical to use the letters "AC" for "aircraft carrier," a ship designation beginning with the letter A was usually reserved for auxiliary vessels like cargo ships, tenders, hospital ships, oilers, repair ships, and other transports. The code AC itself had already bee
  6. Look here... http://www.primeportal.net/the_airstrip.htm There are a number of walkarounds of the various KC-135 models. (real ones that is.....) Terry Sumner
  7. I have the entire instruction sheet booklet scanned and on file. I can email them for you if you want... Terry Sumner
  8. Good on ya Steve, I was contemplating writing a review for ARC on that book, but since you're already doing it, go for it. It definitely deserves a spot in the Reviews archive. Terry Sumner
  9. Hey Brian, Sunday is my birthday too! 03/18/52! Makes me 55 this Sunday...how 'bout you? BTW..gee since it's my birthday can I have a set for free? Just kiddin...I will buy a sheet or three.. Terry Sumner
  10. Got all the books I ordered from Daco yesterday and I am stunned! The sheer amount of detail presented in Danny Coreman's "Uncovering..." series is staggering! I have a rather extensive library of reference material and for photographic detail in color...there is no equal out there that I have seen. My compliments to you Danny Coremans and the fellows who helped you out. Bravo! I got the books on the F-14, F-16, F-18 and the B-1. I also got the DVD of the Teddy Roosevelt visit and the Model Master-Series book number 1. If anyone out there is considering purchasing any of these books....hesi
  11. My bad and I apologise for omitting this bit...I do have the Cutting Edge decal sheet. Was wondering if there was anything else out there besides that one. It has nothing on it for data and my kit sheet is totally ruined. Even decal film cannot save it! <_< Thanks again, Tery Sumner
  12. Hi all, The decal sheet in my Hasy 1/48 Sea King model has completely deteriorated where they are unusable. I want to build it as a US Navy helicopter but I can't seem to find any US decals for it. I see plenty of Canadian and British, but no American. Any made out there? Any supplier have some? TIA, Terry Sumner
  13. Hi all, Spent a number or hours searching the net for images and info on B-25's in Desert Pink color. Found a number of sites but little or no photos. Even in my reference books I have precious little on this sbject. Anyone know of a website with info on this subject or any good books on same? Tia, Terry Sumner
  14. A number of years ago, I built the Monogram kit and used that Verlinden set. There was a LOT to doing that kit with that set as I recall. Sanded off all the raised panel lines and rescribed the kit, etc. The end result came out pretty good, but I think you're still way ahead of the game if you just build the Academy kit. As it usually goes, I built mine, then Academy came out with the good kit a short time later! If I can can find some time, I'll try to dig out the model and shoot a cuple of photos of it for you if you're interested? Terry Sumner
  15. Fellow modelers, The website for the 2007 Nats will be up and online somewhere on or about September 7th. I spoke to Nat Richards as it is his club that is hosting the 07 Nats. He said the reason they are waiting till then is because that's about the earliest time one can book the htel rooms. The website url will be www.ipmsusa2007.org but there is nothing there yet...not till they put it online. Patience my friends.... Terry Sumner IPMS 35079
  16. Sorry you haven't had a convention in the Detroit area my friend, but there are reasons. First of all, an IPMS chapter located in or around the Detroit are must submit a bid to host the convention for a year when it is scheduled to be held in the Central district of the USA. Then that bid must be selected over any other bids submitted for the same year. There is a committee that reviews these bids during the convention 2 years in advance. They make the decision as to who wins the bid. What their criteria is for deciding I do not know since I am not a member of that committee. So if you want a
  17. Says on the IPMS-USA website that Virginia Beach has won the bid for the 2008 Nats! That's okay by me...I can drive there! Terry
  18. My hearty congratulations to 2 very hard working members of the Northeast Region. First to Doug Hamilton for being selected RC of the Year. Doug has put his heart and soul into the RC job since taking over for our new president and he deserves the honor! Good job Doug! And second, to the editor of my club's newsletter and webmaster, Bob Magina, for having our "Battlewagon" selected as newsletter of the year. Bob is another one of those guys who unselfishly devotes much time and effort to the success of the Bay Colony Historical Modelers and this award is well deserved! Congratulations to b
  19. If you're doing the kind with a lens over the whole light fixture, just paint it a bright silver first. Then, when dry, paint the appropriate Tamiya transparent green, red, blue or whatever over it. Looks great! If you're doing a light where the lens is clear and the bulb inside is colored, drill a short hole, fill it with whatever color you need, the make the clear lens with either Micro Kristal Klear. or build up some future. I've even used a droplet of superglue. Terry
  20. What dealer will they be available from? Terry
  21. No big deal here at all. But the contest is Noreastcon, not Northeastcon. Just looks kinda funny with that spelling after knowing it as Noreastcon for all these years... I was an aircraft judge and the quality of aircraft models that day was very, very good! Terry Sumner
  22. Or you could (heh-heh) make them with the Verlinden photoetch set! Bwa ha haaaaaa Hey don't laugh too hard...I actually did this! Terry Sumner
  23. P.S. Hasegawa F-18F kit is configued as a pre-Lot 26 kit. The decal sheet with the kit provides four different aircraft numbers....165882, 165878, 165882 and curiously...166620. The last number shouldn't be there as that number belongs to the later lot 26 and up aircraft. And I know...number 165882 is repeated. I don't know why, but the font for the word "F/A-18F" above the number is slightly different in the two. As a side note...I have the Italeri F18F kit also and it too is configured as a pre-Lot 26 kit. Decals only for thedetail on the instrument panels and a straight across coaming fo
  24. I have the early BB cockpit set in hand and it is my current project. Actually, I'm photographing this one as I go along to write a review article on the build. I do not have the Lot 26 and up set but referring to the photo of that set, it would appear that they have modified the rear cockpit to the new setup in the lot 26 and up (block 57 and up) Super Hornets. If you get Detail and Scale volume 69, it has photos of this. The main differences that you can see include the instrument panel for the WSO in the rear. The early set has 4 screens, all around the same size. Also, the coaming on top i
