Zmey Smirnoff
Please read! First and foremost, this Group Build is completely unofficial. It is not sponsored, approved or even authorized by ARC administration team. However, we will rely on their unyielding hospitality and limitless understanding in this matter. All Armor GB matter will be limited to one thread. All questions, progress reports, photos, everything stays in this one thread. Please don’t start new ones. Onto the GB. - Dates: FINISHED - Subjects: Whatever you want - No prizes. Bragging rights and camaraderie only - This GB implies no guarantees. Join at your own risk. No lifeguard/nurse/cop on duty. I don’t even have any control over the thread. - I will be using the "edit" function to update the list of participants and the like. Pay extra attention to the first 2-3 posts. - Any questions or entries can be posted here or PMed to me. Now the absolutely most important part. All of us are intensely aware that this is Aircraft Resource Center. We also know that the majority of ARCers build exclusively aircraft. This GB is for those who also enjoy building models of armored vehicles. Please be tolerant of this fact. We have all heard the hilarious and refreshingly new jokes that all armored vehicles are “targetsâ€, “missile magnetsâ€, “dirt crawlers†and whathaveyou. Well, those jokes are neither funny nor new.. Don’t post them here Please. I have no control over the thread, and I cannot remove those posts. I am calling upon your maturity and tolerance. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us. Your hosts will be myself and Raymond. Enjoy yourselves and have fun. Edited July 27, 2008 by Zmey Smirnoff

Buckshot 4
Alright, Alright.... My arm is twisted. I'll do a M1A1 - Prob Trumpeter
Fishwelding
Bad timing on my part. Just recently drifted back into armor, but I'm essentially past 25% on an old Tamiya Halftrack, and don't wish to stop now. Oh well, I'll follow along, anyway. It's the old M3A2 kit, generally recognized to be flawed in several respects, but extraordinarily bad-mouthed by armor modelers now that Dragon has begun a series. Never one to just toss old kits, I'm trying to build it as an M3A1, probably of the Fourth Armored Division in Western Europe. I'm mulling some diorama ideas, but I find that adding even a vignette around a kit seems to increase the project time exponentially. The set of GIs that come with this kit are, in my opinion, some of the best Tamiya's ever done. Detail, especially faces, are not up to today's standards, but the troop's decidedly non-combat orientation really captures the "hurry up and wait" nature of the grunts' war, even in the armored infantry. I've already used some elsewhere, and if the rest don't end up with this bus, they'll no doubt be appearing on future models. EDIT: Zmey, I'm not certain I understand the "no towed artillery" bit. Any limitations on the field artillery, especially coming from a Russian, are rather surprising. The Motherland's Patriots of '42-45 might not approve :) Edited January 22, 2007 by Fishwelding
Platypus
Erm I have some pics of my latest armor build : 1/35 Dragon SdKfz 250/? (can't remember what variant). Can I join ?
Clumber
oh sure, as I have just finished my SA-2 !!! (on launcher) :) Ok, I think I can drag out another armor kit to work on while parts of my OV Mohawk are drying, setting, or sitting in "time out" ! Add me in, unofficially, of course! Hmmm... what shall it be, what shall it be... Kangaroo? T-34? Buy a whole new kit perhaps? I have always wanted to do a Matilda.... CHOICES! tracy
Grant
Amazing timing! I am shortly going to start an Accurate Armour Daimler Mk1 armoured car, and now I have somewhere to post photos. It will be a scary build - there is a guy at work who is a fantastic armour modeller. He will naturally be very helpfull, but what a standard to be aiming for - eek! cheers Grant
TonyH
Ok,I guess I could try and build one of those big heavy steel things! :) Tony
Fishwelding
Ok,I guess I could try and build one of those big heavy steel things! B) Tony If you insisted on sticking to aluminum, you could build an M551, but frankly neither the kits available, nor the real tank, drew great reviews. Come to think of it, M113s are aluminum, too. Zmey Smirnoff
Actually all BMD (1,2,3 and 4) vehicles are aluminum. Also known as "winged metal" in Russia.
volzj
Hmmm, I was actually looking at armor the other day in the LHS. I was kind of inspired to build something. Definite maybe for me... :)

The new Academy kit is still readilly available...and well from what I hear, its fairly accurate for regular purposes
Rampage55
Sign me up, sounds like fun. I have a 1/35 Sdkfz 7/1 20mm Flak Vierling that I have been looking for a good excuse to build. I know it's not realy armor. If this is not acceptable I would like to have a go at one of the new 1/48 armor kits that are so popular these days. I here they are quite good, and fun to build. Thanks, Mark
Fishwelding
Sign me up, sounds like fun. <_< I have a 1/35 Sdkfz 7/1 20mm Flak Vierling that I have been looking for a good excuse to build. Thanks, Mark That's a decent kit. I personally wish Tamiya had included the crew in summer uniforms, but I suspect they based the scene on some photograph they had of a mobile AA crew in the last winter of the war. Another gripe, although probably not a practical one, is that Tamiya should have included the ammunition trailer for that vehicle. Still, the crew is molded in a likely vignette, as if tracking to potentially ambush some overflying allied aircraft. Out of the box, the kit produces a convincing scene. Dan 88
I'm in with a 1/35 M1A1. *Edit-Changed my entry, started it today.... Edited February 2, 2007 by Super Hornet
Fishwelding
Just to get the discussion started, here's the halftrack project so far: In order to make the model more reflective of war-service machines, I removed the molded-on scaling ladders on the sides of the troop compartment box. I also removed the racks on the rear of the vehicle, just for variety. I lost some surface detail, but I'm probably going to have troop equipment cluttering the sides of the vehicle anyhow, per many photographs of the armored infantry in World War II. There's a few photos on Tim Streeter's awesome website that depict this well. For now, I brushed on a coat of Mr. Surfacer just to even out the worst of the rough spots. I’ve always had an affinity for the M2/3 series. With their front fenders, M3s approached a sense of the automobilistic style of the time--a touch of Phaeton amidst the drab. Then again, perhaps a 'what-if' is in order. I wonder if the railroad people have some city bus markings. Before I go much further, I'm going to have to decide if this is part of a diorama, and as such if seat heights need adjustment or doors need left open. Matt
Count me in. No idea what yet. Cheers, Matt
Sabre F-86
Im in as well. I have an old Italieri Sdkfz 7 with a single barrel 20mm on it, which is unarmored. It the first of the string of modified halftracks, before they added the armor for the cab, so it may not count. It is the last one left over from my dads collection and I just found it while unpacking stuff. If not, I'll try a PZKW I or something, I have lots of armor kits to do. Clumber
 Alright, topic picked, kit purchased. T-34/85, Dragon kit, 35th scale. Scrubbed the sprues with dishwashing soap and a toothbrush and they are drying right this moment. Hoping to start snipping and gluing (roadwheels, roadwheels, track segments, track segments, ad nauseum....) tomorrow night after work! Yeeee HAH tracy Edited January 29, 2007 by Clumber
ChernayaAkula
Cool stuff! Count me in as well! I figure I should be able to get a tank or two done by then... Don't know which one yet (too many to choose from)! Maybe Zvezda's BTR-80A, which I'm itching to build! Come to think of it, M113s are aluminum, too. A good friend of mine, who was with armored inafntry in the Bundeswehr, calls the M113 the "5,000 litre jacuzzi".
C5sparkcatcher
count me in, though I dont know what yet. Probably a Warrior, or an MLTB, or maybe something JGSDF. or maybe all three!!!!! Ray.
