I was driving so I didn't get any photos but I got to see Erickson Aero Tankers new MD-87 Tanker fly over. It's been in active service for only a few days and it has already been actively making retardant drops. When it flew over me it was only about 700 feet up and going fast.

No photos but I was working yesterday and I was parked on Alert Rd near runway 07 - 25 while doing a report on the laptop in the cruiser. I knew the Australian Prime Minister was coming to Ottawa to commence a state visit but I wasn't sure what time his flight was landing. As I was doing my report, all kinds of folks showed up and parked all along Alert Rd and got all their camera gear out, waiting to take photos of his flight as it landed. Folks were gathered around for about 20 - 30 minutes awaiting the grand arrival. At about 1330 hrs or so, the Australian PM's aircraft landed. I don't know if it was this specific 737 but it looked a lot like this:

The photo op for the landing and taxi lasted a mere two minutes. The photogs were standing around waiting for other RCAF or support aircraft but none showed up. There were plenty of people milling around with a "That's it!?" look on their faces. At least they saw it land and were able to snap a few photos.

The RAAF VIP flight has two 737 BBJs A36-001 and A36-002.

:D, And apart from the tail numbers they would be identically marked. It appears 34 Sqn hasn't followed 33 Sqn's habit of naming its aircraft like back in the 707 days. Does anyone know if 33 Sqn will be giving individual names to their tankers?

,

Ross.

Ryan and Ross:

Thanks for the clarification. I saw the aircraft land but I was concentrating more on writing my report so I'm not sure which one it was.

Cheers.

Gonzolo you managed to get it into every post you made except the last one. Nice pic of the AH-124 Volga though. It used to come here to Yuma quite often in support of WTI. They used to bring in CH-53D's from Hawaii. 2 at a time plus other equipment in one trip was quite impressive. Not only that but how much fuel that thing drinks. One time me and one other guy fueled one of them for 48,000 gallons that equates to 324,000 pounds of fuel for their return flight to Hawaii. Impressive indeed. Watching that Lumbering Beast take off was fun too used almost all of a 2 mile runway when loaded. I'm sure its quite a puckering event to be in control of that thing while on take off.

Went out this morning because Flighaware said the 787 was coming to town again...then when I got there they changed their minds, sent an A321 so I didn't stick around for long. messed around with longer exposures for the prop planes to get some panning and learning along the way so nothing special, a Q400, 1900D, and a king air

Dylan: My wife and I were on a whale watching trip off Victoria about a year and a half ago and we caught the Nimitz coming out too. My wife's shots are a little more detailed than yours but I suspect we were a lot closer than you as they actually warned our boat off for getting too close..Great shots from the shore and thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting. Nice shiny clean 787. Heck, even the tow bar looks like it was just waxed. Impressive :)/>

:D, Just saw a V-tail Bonanza over my house. This aircraft doesn't get up much, spending most of its time on the ground at Maitland. Sorry, didn't have a camera at the ready at the time. Last night at the AAL meeting at Maitland airfield there was a newly overhauled local Cessna 210, the RNAC's 2 Cessna 152 Aerobats, a couple of Mooneys and a Cessna Titan and several others out on the tarmac overnight.

,

Ross.
