Steve jahn
I'm looking for an picture or pictures of the YF-15A which dropped bombs during the testing fase of the Eagle. If it was a single seater YF-15A that would probably be SN 71-285 or 71-286. However there are a lot of photos out there with two seater TF-15A 71-291 with a full load of bombs. steve
Jonny2174
Is this thread still open? F-15 is still a beautiful airplane to me...

gary1701
Is this thread still open? F-15 is still a beautiful airplane to me... Okay, here's a round up of some my older images that I might not have posted in the past, apologises if any turn out to be repeats. This year there isn't going to be the number that I've put up previously of the 48th at Lakenheath, given that the wing had two of it's three Squadrons grounded in the USAF budget cuts earlier this year. Anybody want to speculate as to what has happened to the RWR fairing on the tip of the left fin on the 493rd jet below? Near jet in the pic below is the one that went down over Libya. Hope that keeps the thread ticking over. Gary
flanker27
wow, fantastic shots, I like the second pic, gives the F-15E a mean look
HOLMES
Gary, AMAZING photos..I agree the second one with its mean loadout is STUNNING, and the one caught in the sun is EXQUISITE.
Ken Middleton
fantastic shots Gary! Love them all, especially the 2nd to last one
gary1701
wow, fantastic shots, I like the second pic, gives the F-15E a mean look Thanks, it's strange but despite that being a pic taken on older equipment and having tried to repeat it under the same conditions many times, I've never got one to the same standard again. For some reason the light on the underside was perfect. fantastic shots Gary! Love them all, especially the 2nd to last one :thumbsup:/>/>/> Thanks Ken. I quite like that one as well. It was taken at RAF Coningsby, where the 48th tend to drop in for overshoots most days. For those not familiar with Coningsby that's taken from the Southside at the 07 end from on top of a mound looking across to the main apron, where the Typhoons of 29 Sqn can be seen, the RAF's Operation Conversion Squadron for the type. The eagle eyed will spot a couple of Spitfires. The hangar behind belongs to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Just out of curiosity, have any of the US based USAF units grounded started some limited, basic currency flying? Reason I ask is because the F-15Es of the two Lakenheath based units are now back to flying daily, although on a very small scale. My understanding of the units that were grounded was that it was a total, no flying at all instruction. Has this quietly changed? gary1701
Here you go gents, 'Bolar 11' flight of four at the Lakenheath 'last chance' on Thursday evening after a flight around the Wales Military Training Area. No landing shots as they were working runway 06, which puts the light up the rear and it looks horrible. At least at EOR they turn 'em around! The 492nd FS seems rather active for a unit supposedly grounded by the budget cuts. Gary

Ken Middleton
the 104th FW did some night flying a few weeks back (was going to post them then, but my antivirus would not allow me on ARC, said it was a suspicious site). I got a combination of late afternoon and early evening shots after sunset

gary1701
Hi Gents, Lovely pics Ken, I always admire that angle with the evening light and treeline behind, especially with the burners going. Here's my effort from this afternoon, as the 'Bayou Militia' duly turned up on time. Unfortunately by turning up at that exact time they found the sun right down the nose on runway 24 at Lakenheath, so the contrast on these shots is pretty poor, although I've done what I could with them. Mazda 11-16 and 21-24 were 8 F-15C's and two F-15D's, believed to be going to Eastern Europe (I did see which country yesterday but can't remember where I saw it), and expected to depart on Tuesday. I'd guess the guy in the back seat of the D model above is probably a bit surprised to see all those cars and hundreds of people waiting for them on a Sunday afternoon! Anybody know why it's marked '159th MXG' rather than '159th FW' ? Gary

Once in a while you will see a jet marked up for a MXG, but not too often sadly. The 159th FW flagship is triple MiG killer from Desert Storm, 85-0102
