Modelsvit T10-10 Flanker prototype 1/72 scale
bdt13 replied to Flankerman's topic in The Display Case
Excellent build! I like the side-by-side of your Flankers where the significant changes from prototype to production are shown. -
Modern Hobbies makes a good 1/72 Maverick and single rail: Click Here I have a few of these I intend to use for A-10 builds, the triple rails haven't been used much in actual combat loads.

Added some seat belts and other "soft" items on the seat using Tamiya tape. Oxygen and comms hoses from solder. Coated with thin CA after to hopefully make it more permanent. Also filed the center gap between the pilot's knees, as the kit part was straight across. There are several other shape issues with the seats (I shudder to think what the scale thickness of the ejection handles is, for example) but this is as much as I care to do for this build.

North American F-86F "Mig Mad Marine"

Wow! That's an excellent build! -
Wow, this is moving fast! Nice paint work on the camo.

BTW, this is the Academy 1/72 kit. Decals from Wolfpak. OK here are the in-progress photos:

Got the parts cleaned up and started some sub-assemblies. This aircraft shot down a MiG-17 in 1968. Link to post on Facebook

F-8E Crusader of VF-191 "Satan's Kittens", shot down a MiG-17 July 9, 1968. Lt. Cdr. John Nichols was the pilot. This will be the 1/72 Academy kit, OOB or close. Decals are from Wolfpak Decals sheet 72-061 "Red Eye" shared by viking73 (thanks again!). Link to decal review here.

You cannot photograph the alien-derived cloaking device, of course.

Uwe- Good luck on your Intrepid projects. The Intrepid has always been of interest to me as a family friend was a photographer's mate aboard her in the late 1960's - early 1970's; the CVS days. He showed me some great slides of air operations when I was a kid, and got me interested in carrier aviation more than I already was. That was before the ship was a museum, which I have been fortunate enough to visit shortly after the opening. I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Thanks, MoFo! That's one I had heard of but never seen.

Saw this photo on the USAF website. Any ideas on what these stores are on the TER-9?

Very nice - thanks for sharing these photos. Are the bottoms of the nacelles painted or is that a different alloy?

You will usually find mutli-colored markings on the "CAG bird" - the aircraft in a squadron that is marked with the name of the Commander of the Air Group (CAG), now formally designated as an Air Wing. The Modex (three digit number applied to the aircraft, in this case 400) of the CAG bird always ends with "00" (modex uniquely identifies each plane within the air wing). These aircraft are usually decorated more colorfully than others in the unit. The multiple colors represent the colors of each of the squadrons in the wing.

Not to change the subject, but is this phantom carrying a towed target? I'm wondering what the red fin-like shape is under the starboard drop tank, and also what the dark tube and cone is visible just behind the tank's pylon. BTW I too built this Airfix kit. I did it as the Israeli F-4E with the cannon pods. Lots of Brrrrtttt...

Thanks, Scoobs. I'm surprised there haven't been more photos of this as it is so cool!

I've used 30 year old Tamiya paints at times with no issues. It's not the age, it's how much it has dried out or changed chemically in the jar. Try a little of your "old" paint on a scrap piece and see if it still works OK before you decide you need to spend the money to replace.

OK this REALLY piqued my interest. I've spent something like 45 minutes on Google and USN.mil and simply cannot find a picture of this E-2 with the cool radome. Is there an image date in Google Earth that might narrow down the timeframe for the search?
-
Quite nice! How much back-dating did you need to do to get it to be a YA-10? I'm not familiar with this kit.

Looks like this is actually the seeker of an Paveway III LGB - Perhaps a GBU-24?

Thanks for the kind offer, Ernie. Don't need an entire kit just to get an IP, so I'll say no thank you.
