  1. Looks good so far.... I am looking forward to your next update. I've been thinking about going for this kit shelf space is a bit tight and the price is a bit high. We'll see...... John
  2. I just stumbled upon this (don't frequent this forum too often) and have to say that this is one of the most unique models I have seen. What a wonderful job!! Great model and great presentation. John
  3. Well I'm back. Way too much going on at work (including another nice round of economy-related layoffs) but I've had some time here and there to make some progress on my Kiowa Warrior. Spent a good deal of time cleaning up the cockpit. The first pics I posted showed things in a pretty rough state. I then started with the painting. Plenty of colors to choose from as long as you like shades of black. The main color is Model Master acrylic interior black. It does a nice job of replicating the overall finish. I then added some flat black touches (straight out of the bottle and also with
  4. Floyd, Do any operational KW's fly with the MPLH gear or do they alway just use this for deployments only? John
  5. Now that is a crazy picture. I'd love to know the story behind that. Would also make a good subject for a diorama (for an uber-modeler). John
  6. That shot of the C-47 and C-17 is wild!! It almost looks photoshopped (I know it isn't but the C-47 looks like it is a few seconds from getting sucked up into the -17's engines). Just a very unique picture. John
  7. Great shots, especially of the 707. That is a sight that you don't see to often these days. I hate to say it but I kinda miss seeing those old-school airliners. The new ones are so much more efficient but nothing beats watching a 727 lumbering out of an airport on a hot summer day. Between the noise and smoke, it was like a mini-airshow. Those A320s / 737NG's just don't have the same appeal. Thanks again for posting! John
  8. Just because the Army has a few bases in Japan, that doesn't mean that they would have scout or attack aviation units there as well. I'm not 100% sure what the Army has based in Japan these days, I don't think that they have even combat arms units over there, just logistics and support. Units like this would only need Blackhawks for general transporation / liason purposes.
  9. Looking good Ray! I really like your choice of subjects, it should be a nice looking Huey! John
  10. Just got my OH-58 decals today, less than a week after mailing my check out. Just as good as the Vietnam Huey set (that means they are great). It's gonna be tough deciding which version to go with, they all are pretty unique. One thing I like about Fireball is that they included markings for the Hellfires and rocket pods. A lesser company would have left these out, forcing you to buy the seperate decal set for them. Just another thing that sets Joe apart from the rest. If any of you folks out there have not given Fireball a shot, I highly recommend that you check them out. The
  11. Actually, there are a bunch of AF aircraft that are unmarked. Try the AF version of the 757 (forget what it is called, but I watched one do touch and goes at Otis ANGB for an hour), the Gulfstream VIP transports and the RC-7 ELINT aircraft. All of them have nothing but a 4-5 digit number on the tail. No USAF, no stars and bars.
  12. Joseph, Those decals look great, can't wait to get them on my KW. The check is going out tomorrow. Just wondering about two things - Any idea what the date is for the marking for the 10th MTN division KW (the one with the squat gear)? Any photos out there for the SATCOM rig on the 101st KW? Didn't think that OH-58's were flying in Afghanistan, thought they were too underpowered for hot and high conditions. Good luck on this decal set, hope it sells well. John
  13. Gotta love the Brits. No one does it better....
  14. Looking good Charles.... Can't wait to see this one done. Where do you find room for all the Huey models? John
  15. I saw this posted on the general forum and figured I'd re-post it here. I hope this isn't too off topic. Gotta love those crazy French (nice shorts too)! Sorry that I can't post this as a hyper link. John
  16. Thanks very much for the feedback! I'd love to see you put out the new glare shield (which I'm sure will be out about 5 minutes after I finish my kit . Don't forget to include the green operators manual that always seems to be stuffed into the pocket on the side! I'm making mine out of some scrap PE and plastic card. I found it tough to build up the kit part. The center of the kit part is too shallow. I built mine up with some sheet plastic but it still doesn't have the right profile. I also lost some of the round vent holes but I figure I can paint them on the finished piece and it sh
  17. NOTE - for those viewing this for the first time - If you aren't aware, Photobucket has eliminated viewing of pictures online. If you can't see the pics, go here: Firefox: https://addons.mozil...fix/?src=search Chrome: https://chrome.googl...nflicjjgj?hl=en It's an update to allow Photobucket pics to be viewed by folks using Chrome or Firefox. Works as of SEP 2017, no idea if it will work in the future. I decided to take a shot at the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior. Not sure what I'm going to do for markings (waiting to see what Fireball comes up with) but I really like the l
  18. Hopefully they will be out after those long-awaited OH-58D decals! John
  19. Cool site. These guys have some really unique products in the pipeline. It's good to see another aftermarket outfit joining us. Thanks for the link, John
  20. Andrew, I believe that you have set the standard for a Huey model. What a great job.... I can't wait to see your model finished. I really like the pilot's door hinges. Were they from an aftermarket PE set or did you scratch build them? Just out of curiousity, what did you use for settings on your camera? I'm still trying to get the knack of taking closeups with everything in focus. Regards, John
  21. Hi Chris, It actually is completely right and there is nothing more to this story. The model was taken outside for photography on a partly cloudy day in the mid-70's. Many days prior to that, the blades were mounted on the model indoors and would not remain straight for longer than 15 minutes prior to drooping. The end result was the same; they would not hold their shape and were unusable. I took the outdoor pictures with your blades installed simply becaused they looked so much better than what came with kit. Don't know if it was a batch of bad resin or a design flaw. They were bu
  22. I'm still not understanding how anyone could confuse an AAV with a BMP no matter what color it was painted. An AAV is basically just a conex box (a conex box is a 40' long sheet metal shipping container) with some tracks stuck on as an afterthough! Looks nothing like a BMP.
  23. Can't open either of the links. The page is just blank
  24. I used the Cobra UH-1 Drivetrain set for my 1/35 Dragon UH-1H. Great details, much better than the plastic version. However, after approx 5 minutes, the rotor blades were drooping so much that the tips were nearly touching the ground. I ended up tossing them in the garbage. Very disappointing..... You actually might have better luck since the rotors in 72nd scale will be shorter and may not sag as much as the ones I bought. However, I would be very cautious and try to get some feedback from someone who has actually purchased your set before spending the $. Good luck, John
