  1. Basically, you should do your best to avoid breathing the canned gas which is what comes out of your ab when you paint. But you should also avoid breathing the paint. If you dont have a respirator then wear a dustmask and paint in a well ventilated place.
  2. Fantastic job on the faded and weathered finish. Wow!
  3. The white thing in the moisture trap is merely a filter. The way it works is that moisture tends to condense in the bowl of the trap and run down to the bottom of the bowl where it can be removed through the little valve on the bottom. An air tank will do much towards helping to get the moisture out of the air because it gives the hot compressed air a chance to cool off. When the air cools is when the moisture tends to form.
  4. Man, I really love those rear discolored areas!
  5. I have never liked this plane but as far as models go...Wow, this is a super job. Your finish just looks fantastic. Congrats!!
  6. Thanks for taking the time to post this. A really nice looking model too!
  7. Wow, I'm really lovin that super clean looking Albatros. Have always wanted a WNW kit but they are pretty $$ high!! :o Not saying they are not worth it but its still a lot to plop down at once.
  8. Thanks for all the tips guys. Havent tried the rolled up masking tape yet but I did get some silly putty. I rolled it into little snakes and elevated my paper mask with them. It worked really well but there is something to watch out for. If you tear the putty off the model fast you are fine but if you do it slowly then the putty stretches into long strings (think cheese while biting a piece of pizza). These strings can be as small as a hair and virtually invisible, at least until you spray the next color and you see the paint build up around that little hair-like piece of silly putty that you
  9. I have heard a lot about using blu tac for use in masking soft edge camouflage schemes. I bought some recently and tried it for the first time. First I tried to form it into flat thin sheets and lay it on the wing thereby using it for the actual masking. It did not want to adhere to the model at all. Then I tried another method I have heard about, forming the blu tac into little balls and using those to adhere a paper mask to the model. The small 'lift' the paper gets from the balls giving the soft effect. I had a pretty hard time getting the balls to stick to anything except my fingers. Can a
  10. A sherline or a chinese 7x12 mini lathe will do anything you need for models.
  11. Check the element in your water filter, perhaps it is in need of replacing. Also, while you are airbrushing is your little red hose quite warm? As the air cools water will tend to form in the compressed air. In fact, this is one of the ways that industries use to dry their compressed air. The hot compressed air is cooled in a refrigeration system which makes water form so that it can be drained out of the airstream. You may find that putting a longer hose between your compressor and water filter will let that air cool before running through the filter and give you better performance.
  12. Try getting some of the metal cups that stick into the intake of your VL. They put the level of the paint almost 'beside' and even with the airbrush tip rather than drawing it up a long straw. I think this may help you.
  13. When I used to paint motorcycle tanks I would go down as low as 8 psi. Now this was usin House of Kolor automotive paint and it was very, very thin. But as someone posted above, you can get model paints down to a pretty thin vis. and still get pretty good results. Good decision on the regulator, dont even try to airbrush without one. Its kind of like driving a car without a gas pedal :)
  14. I agree on the lacquer thinner drying the paint in the air. I would try using a 'cooler' thinner and doing some test painting and see how it turns out. You also may try getting a little closer, you might be surprised how close to the model you can paint with an airbrush using a low pressure.
  15. You are certainly going beyond the OOB build, I couldnt believe all the work on those dive brakes, wow! :o I have the AM kit and cant wait to build it one day, it seems that people cannot say enough good things about it.
  16. You are not using the Future for 'wood' floors are you? For some reason this kind doesnt work well at all for models.
  17. Wow, that instrument panel is spectacular! Almost looks like it should function!! Chris
  18. A 12 volt power supply would do this but 35 amps is more than the typical one can deliver. I wonder if you could use a sealed battery like a trolling motor battery and simply keep the battery on a trickle charger? Chris
  19. Very nice. How did you do that very excellent worn paint on the left wing? Chris
  20. Great job! Unless I am wrong that looks like a super job of some freehand camouflage. Chris
  21. Hey is this a ship from the Homeworld game? Chris
  22. Just curious, having never used dullcote from the bottle. Does it need to be thinned with lacquer thinner before airbrushing or will 'normal' thinner work? Chris
  23. Super duper nice. What a great paintjob!
  24. Wow! I have this kit and if it comes out half this good I will be happy!
